What you'll do as a Solutions Architect

The Solutions Architect is a senior technical leadership role. Your role will be to convince these decision makers of the long term value of thinking of Cloudflare as a strategic technology partner.

Overview

We're looking for a DevOps/SRE Engineer with hands-on experience in the Erlang and/or Elixir ecosystem to join Release Engineering. You'll own the build, test, and release pipelines for our BEAM-based services and ensure our delivery practices meet the same standard as the rest of the platform.

What You'll Do

• Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines for Erlang (Betler) and Elixir (Argo Workflows) services, from build through production deployment.
• Build and maintain base Docker images, release packaging, and deployment automation for BEAM-based applications.
• Collaborate with application teams to define and enforce release standards, quality gates, and rollback strategies for Erlang/Elixir services.
• Improve observability and reliability of the BEAM stack: build monitoring, deployment health checks, and incident response tooling.
• Contribute to migration efforts as we consolidate and modernize delivery infrastructure across stacks.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience operating, building, or deploying Erlang and/or Elixir applications in a production environment.
• Strong understanding of the BEAM VM, OTP patterns, hot code upgrades, and release management (rebar3, Mix releases).
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Argo, or similar) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes).

An overview of this role

As a Senior Engineer on the Runway team, you'll lead the design, evolution, and operation of the Kubernetes-based platform and developer tooling that powers GitLab's engineering organization. The details: remote work & tech stack

You should be located in the UK, Ireland, or the Netherlands. You are free to choose working hours that suit you best, as long as there is an overlap with your team for most of the day.

Our stack primarily consists of Elixir + PostgreSQL on the backend and Phoenix on the frontend (with some pockets of React). We monitor performance using Sentry, and our platform is hosted on AWS, running on Docker containers defined in Terraform. Our platform is AI-native, and we make extensive use of LLMs in our application. Our code lives on GitHub — in fact, GitHub, Slack and Linear is where most of the collaboration happens. We practice using Loom to demo our work.

You will be responsible for leading and delivering technical investigations for clients, including:

As a Staff Solutions Engineer (SE) at Upbound, you'll be a vital part of our pre-sales team. This role will support all pre-sales efforts in the EMEA region across multiple segments. Once a lead is discovered and qualified, the Solutions Engineer works directly with the customer to understand the technical business problem they are trying to solve. They will help customers navigate and understand the value Upbound products and solutions bring them. Solutions Engineers build credible technical relationships with our customers by listening and then clearly communicating the value proposition of our products in a way that is contextualized to the customer’s specific needs.

Solutions Engineers are deeply familiar with Upbound’s product roadmap and will intuit when to sell ahead of our product roadmap and when to focus on existing solutions based on the customer’s medium and long term vision. Solutions Engineers are expected to deeply understand the key technical and economic buyer's personalities and what it will take to get them to sign a deal.

In this role, you will: 

• Partnering with a Sales Account Executive to engage in technical discussions with customers throughout the buying lifecycle.
• Working cross functionally with product marketing, and independently, to create and deliver high fidelity presentations, custom demos, sample solutions, and present use cases to guide the customer through the buying journey
• Closely partnering with customers and platform builders to solve technical and business challenges which enables them to design, build and implement Crossplane and Upbound Cloud based control plane architectures.
• Working directly with customers and platform builders to define, implement, and test out early proof of concepts of Crossplane and Upbound Cloud.
• Collect detailed customer requirements so product and engineering can accurately estimate and resource the necessary implementation services.
• The technical voice and trusted advisor to the customer and represent the customer needs internally.
• Project manage the account pre and post sale to ensure a smooth and frictionless customer experience through implementation in partnership with Solutions Architect and implementation teams. 

You are a good fit if you have: 

• Worked in pre-sales, consulting, or equivalent experience in an enterprise environment.
• Experience developing relationships with engineering, executive, and commercial teams throughout large organizations.
• Guided customers through designing and deploying Kubernetes to their production environments.
• A deep understanding of highly scaled and reliable services, solutions, and infrastructure in multiple major cloud providers.
• Worked directly with customers and/or open source community members to troubleshoot and solve their complex technical issues preventing successful adoption.
• Deployed and integrated the projects and tools of the Cloud Native Landscape, especially CNCF projects, into production environments.
• A deep understanding of modern operational and application delivery tools and methodologies inside of production deployment workflows, like those from HashiCorp (e.g. Terraform), CI/CD, IaC, and GitOps.
• The ability to work closely with people in a wide variety of disciplines from a wide variety of backgrounds.
• Successfully managed multiple projects and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
• Successfully identified and removed friction from the buying process resulting in a more streamlined and shortened sales cycle.
• Excitement and comfort being a key part of further defining, scaling, and making this part of our sales process thrive.

It is a plus if: 

• You are actively involved or have contributed to the upstream Kubernetes community.
• You have a history of speaking at technology conferences, blogging/writing technical articles, and/or contributing to a popular open source project.
• You have worked in a startup and distributed/remote team before, and understand the unique challenges of a startup environment.

What you will do  

• Responsible for the operation and further development of our multi-cloud container orchestration solution.
• Administer and manage our Linux systems.
• Work together with software developers and solution architects to plan, design, test, implement and maintain professional integration solutions in a multi-cloud environment.
• Develop concepts and methods for automation in a DevOps environment and ensure compliance with processes and documentation.
• Support with best practices for the scalability, reliability, and performance of our production systems.
• Work confidently in a team on escalations and solve critical problems that affect our highly available development, test and production systems.
• Developing and improving standards for security (via security as code) across a continuous delivery environment and cloud-based production deployments.
• Performance load/stress testing and performance tuning of all tiers including web server, application server, database.
• Evaluate and report on new tools and techniques for monitoring and securing an e-Commerce site.

What you’ll bring  

• 8-10 years of Experience in the DevOps field in the Retail & E-Commerce space.
• BE/ BTECH/ ME/ MCA- degree in Computer Science, Engineering.
• Good knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and configuration management, preferably with Terraform and Ansible.
• Good knowledge of scripting/programming and automation solutions.
• Good knowledge of IT operations and security monitoring as well as know-how in CI/CD tools.
• Experience with container technologies (Kubernetes) is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge in DevOps implementation & Practices.
• Strong knowledge in Azure/AWS/Google Cloud implementation.
• Strong knowledge on Linux operating system and proven ability to manage environments running on the same.
• Experience with software security, secure coding, or software assurance tools and techniques.
• Hands-on experience in any one of these tools & technology:
• GitHub/Bitbucket/Jenkins/Maven/Bamboo/JIRA etc.;
• Testing Tools like Selenium/Cucumber/JMeter etc.;
• Deployment (Chef/Puppet/Ansible);
• Infrastructure-as-a-code (IaaC) using Terraform/Cloud Formation Template/ ARM Template;
• Scripting knowledge in Bash/Python/PowerShell.
• Extensive experience in developing and automating deployment tools.
• Expertise in managing Cloud / VMWare resources and good exposure on Containerization using Docker, Kubernetes.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
• Willingness to travel for business meetings, as required.

Good to Know  

• Exposure to Microservices, Database, API implementation is a plus.
• Certifications in AWS/ Azure/ Docker/ Kubernetes etc is a plus.
