We build and maintain the connections that make ClickHouse accessible to the developers, data engineers, and analysts who rely on it in production every day. Our scope spans low-level database drivers, ingestion and CDC pipelines, data framework integrations, and BI connectivity — ensuring ClickHouse feels native in whatever stack our users already have.

We maintain the official language clients (Python, JavaScript, Java, Go, Rust, C++, C#) and ODBC driver; ship first-party connectors for Kafka Connect, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, dbt, and Airbyte; and own integrations with BI platforms.

What you'll do

As a Senior Software Engineer on Language Clients, you'll be a technical owner of ClickHouse's Java client and JDBC driver, the foundation that our own Connectors team and a long list of external 

frameworks rely on to talk to ClickHouse.

• Hands-on experience building or substantially extending a library that other engineers depend on. You understand that API design compounds, and that a breaking change in a widely used library is a very different thing from a breaking change in an application.
• Strong grasp of database fundamentals: SQL, query execution, and analytical/OLAP workloads. Judgment about when to lean on framework abstractions versus when to drop down to the protocol.
• Solid instincts on concurrency in the JVM: executors, reactive streams, backpressure, connection pooling, and the failure modes that come with each.

We are looking for exceptional backend engineers who can work across a variety of technologies, with deep expertise in Kubernetes, distributed systems, cloud services, and platform reliability. As a member of this team, you'll collaborate cross-functionally to build and maintain the robust infrastructure powering ClickPipes. This role is ideal for individuals who are capable of working independently, taking initiative, and driving projects forward with a high level of autonomy.

What will you do?

• Enhance and scale our high-performance data onboarding platform to handle increasing volumes of data in real-time.
• Own and evolve our infrastructure across multiple cloud providers (AWS, with expansion to GCP and Azure).
• Drive improvements to our deployment pipelines, infrastructure automation, and operational processes.
• Drive technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions that impact our platform's scalability and resilience.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure system reliability and respond to production incidents.
• Continuously improve our systems based on operational metrics, customer feedback, and evolving business requirements.

About you:

• Experience: 5+ years of industry experience building as a backend engineer.
• Expertise: Golang, Kubernetes, Terraform (or comparable IaC tool), cloud-native architecture and solid knowledge of at least one major cloud service provider.
• Customer Focus: Have a deep commitment to understanding and addressing customer needs. Use customer feedback and insights to inform and improve product development.
