The Role
As Nex’s Senior Embedded Software / AOSP Engineer, you bring Nex Playground to life. Your OS and firmware run on millions of devices, turning family living rooms into playgrounds where body motion, software, and on-device AI come together as one experience. You will lead the bringup of new platforms and hardware, and craft the HAL and framework layers that fuse our games, system maps, peripherals, and CV/ML pipelines with the silicon beneath.
You will architect the OS and own the full stack — SoC, GPU, NPU, Camera, ISP, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, and power — squeezing best-in-class performance out of consumer-grade hardware. You will champion stability and security end-to-end, from a hardened boot chain to deep-stack profiling and disciplined root-cause analysis of field issues. The Mindset
You build technology that improves people’s lives — especially where the physical and digital worlds meet. You live at the boundary of software and hardware, with deep instincts for how systems behave from the boot loader up. We are looking for Quantitative Researchers to help us build models, strategies and systems that price and trade financial instruments. You'll apply your experience in experiment design, dataset generation, time series analysis, feature engineering and model building to financial datasets, while collaborating with colleagues who will challenge and refine your approach.
At Jane Street, our researchers, engineers and traders sit a few feet away from each other and work together to train models, architect systems and run trading strategies. We work with petabytes of data and a growing GPU cluster containing tens of thousands of high-end GPUs. Depending on the day, we might be diving deep into market data, tuning hyperparameters, debugging distributed training performance or studying how our model likes to trade in production.
We don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” modelling solutions; we are open to and excited about applying all different types of statistical and machine learning techniques, from linear models to deep learning, depending on what best fits a given problem. The most successful researchers will be driven by a curiosity for how their contributions fit into the larger picture of our trading operations, and how to adapt their findings into actionable strategies.
If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company. Many of us were in the same position before working here. If you have a curious mind and a passion for solving interesting problems, we have a feeling you’ll fit right in. You should be:

Our goals are to give you a real sense of what it’s like to work as a Quantitative Researcher at Jane Street, and a truly unparalleled educational experience. You’ll work side by side with our experienced Quantitative Researchers to learn how we identify market signals, analyze large datasets, build and test models, and create new trading strategies.
At Jane Street, the lines between research, technology, and trading are intentionally blurry. As our strategies grow more sophisticated, close collaboration is essential for continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible. We work with petabytes of data, a computing cluster with hundreds of thousands of cores, and a growing GPU cluster containing tens of thousands of high-end GPUs. We don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” modeling solutions; we are open to and excited about applying all different types of statistical and ML techniques, from linear models to deep learning, depending on what best fits a given problem.
You’ll spend the bulk of your internship working closely with full-time researchers on projects drawn from their own work. You’ll gain a better understanding of the diverse array of challenges we consider every day, learning how we think about experiment design, dataset generation, time series analysis, feature engineering, and model building for financial datasets. Your day-to-day project work will be complemented by classes on the broader fundamentals of markets and trading, lunch seminars, and activities designed to help you understand the entire process of creating a new trading strategy, from initial exploration to finding and productionizing a signal.
If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company. Many of us were in the same position before working here. About the position
Our goals are to give you a real sense of what it’s like to work as a quantitative trader at Jane Street, and a truly unparalleled educational experience. You’ll be paired with experienced quantitative traders who will teach you how to identify market signals, analyze and execute strategies, construct quantitative models, conduct statistical analysis, and build trading intuition.
You'll work closely with two different mentors on projects relating to their day-to-day work, giving you a sense of the variety of problems we solve every day. Past projects have included analyzing new or existing datasets, training predictive models, simulating potential new trading strategies, writing tools that we use in production, and even working to answer big-picture questions we haven’t yet figured out.
This work is reinforced with intensive classes, workshops, and team-based mock trading sessions. These will expose you to many of the dynamics we observe in real markets, illustrate the role that we play in making markets more efficient, and help build intuition for how we think about both trading and collaborating.
At Jane Street, the lines between research, technology, and trading are intentionally blurry. As our strategies grow more sophisticated, close collaboration is essential for continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible. We work with petabytes of data, have a computing cluster with hundreds of thousands of cores, and a growing GPU cluster containing thousands of high-end GPUs. Quantitative trading interns also have the opportunity to participate in one “elective” based on your interests. Electives consist of targeted classes and immersive activities, and are designed to give you a deeper and more nuanced look into one of the many aspects of what quantitative trading can look like at Jane Street:
Machine Learning, Modeling, and Data Science
You'll learn how Jane Street applies advanced machine learning and statistical techniques to make models and predictions using large datasets of both real and simulated market data. You'll learn how to train and use a variety of ML models, and gain an understanding of the differences between textbook machine learning and its application to noisy and complex financial data.
Algorithmic Trading and Market Microstructure
You'll learn the end-to-end process of developing an algorithmic trading strategy. You'll analyze market data to develop a tradable fair value and implement a trading strategy in Python. Your algorithmic strategy will connect directly to simulated markets with different market structures, and you will learn how to optimize your strategy given the unique attributes of each market. You will discover how various market dynamics affect strategy behavior and learn how real-world trading differs from simulation.
Trading Strategy and Scenarios
You’ll be introduced to a rotating set of new trading scenarios inspired by real events on a particular trading desk. You’ll work in teams on multiple mock trading sessions related to each scenario and use the time between sessions to refine your strategies, write recaps, and hear how the story played out in real life from our seasoned full-time traders who lived through it.
About you
If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company. Many of us were in the same position before working here. We’re looking for smart and curious individuals from industry and academia to join our growing team and drive our ML work.
On our Machine Learning team, you'll build the deep learning models that power our trading strategies, supported by our rapidly growing computing cluster with tens of thousands of high-end GPUs. Trading poses unusual challenges— large models and nonstationary datasets in a competitive multi-agent environment—that force us to search for novel techniques.
Researchers, engineers and traders sit a few feet away from each other and work together to train models, architect systems and run trading strategies. Depending on the day, we might be diving deep into market data, tuning hyperparameters, debugging distributed training performance or studying how our model likes to trade in production.
We’ll rely on your in-depth knowledge of the machine learning landscape and understanding of a variety of approaches—drawn from LLMs, image models, RL agents, recommendation systems or classical ML methods—to shape the future of ML at Jane Street. You’ll train models for the next generation of our deep learning-based trading strategies, and build the fundamental understanding we need to tackle new markets and situations. You’ll also be hiring new colleagues, attending conferences and teaching techniques to teammates—all of which we consider to be real and impactful parts of the job.
If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company. Many of us were in the same position before working here. If you have a curious mind and a passion for solving interesting problems, we have a feeling you’ll fit right in. There’s no fixed set of skills we are looking for, but you should bring:

Our goals are to give you a real sense of what it’s like to work at Jane Street full time as a Machine Learning Researcher, and a truly unparalleled educational experience. You’ll work side by side with experienced ML Researchers on projects that we’ve selected for their combination of novel ML ideas and relevance to real-world systematic trading strategies. You'll learn how we think about markets through challenging classes and activities, and practice using established methods alongside our own unique twists to train practical models.
Trading poses unusual challenges—large models and nonstationary datasets in a competitive multi-agent environment—that force us to search for novel techniques.
You’ll spend the bulk of your internship working closely on projects with experienced ML Researchers at Jane Street. You might conduct an end-to-end study of an unexplored dataset, try a new modeling paradigm for a thorny problem, or consider blue-sky approaches that we’re still trying to figure out. The problems we work on rarely have clean, definitive answers, and they often require insights from colleagues across the firm with different areas of expertise. Depending on the day, you might be diving deep into market data, tuning hyperparameters, debugging training issues, or analyzing the predictions your model makes.
Note that given the IP-sensitive nature of machine learning research at Jane Street, it is unlikely that any research findings associated with the internship will be suitable for outside academic publication.
If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company. Many of us were in the same position before working here. If you have a curious mind and a passion for solving interesting problems, we have a feeling you’ll fit right in. You should be:

As a Software Engineer at Nex, you will contribute to building the technical foundations that power our platform's most demanding capabilities. You will focus on either ML Engineering or Framework Engineering, two complementary specializations that drive research velocity and product performance.
In the ML Engineering track, you will build the infrastructure that accelerates machine learning research: training pipelines, data workflows, model integration systems, and the tools that enable rapid experimentation. Your work ensures researchers can iterate reliably and move experiments toward production readiness.
In the Framework Engineering track, you will own the design and development of our cross-platform software framework for detection, sensing, haptics, and ML inference. You will build the real-time systems, hardware abstraction layers, and developer APIs that enable multimodal interaction on Nex Playground.
Either path offers the opportunity to work on deeply technical problems in machine learning systems, data infrastructure, sensing technologies, and real-time inference. You will be part of a small, highly technical team that values both specialization and collaboration, with clear ownership of core technology areas.
You are drawn to solving complex technical challenges at the intersection of research and production engineering. You care deeply about building systems that are reliable, performant, and maintainable. You thrive in environments where technical depth matters, where your expertise in ML systems, distributed computing, or real-time software directly shapes what the platform can do.
