WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Sector Analyst for European Equities, you will work with alternative data to gather industry context and business fundamentals. You will then partner with our team of data scientists and engineers to develop analyses that you’ll deliver as synthesized insights to our investment professionals to help aid in their research processes. The work is ever evolving, affording opportunities to tackle new challenges alongside research teammates from diverse backgrounds. Specifically, you will:

• Analyze and interpret alternative data from multiple sources and develop subject-matter expertise on the key themes and KPIs that drive the industry and companies within your assigned coverage
• Produce research for internal consumption by our investment professionals across a variety of mediums, including written research reports, verbal communication, and visualization tools
• Interact directly with our investment professionals to learn the discretionary investment process and help them to drive more informed investment decisions
• Collaborate with our proprietary research teams including Data Sourcing, Data Science, and Data Engineering, as well as Compliance, to source, evaluate, and draw value from new and existing data assets to produce actionable research for investment professionals

WHAT’S REQUIRED  

• An undergraduate or advanced degree with demonstrated academic success
• One to five years of prior equity/investment/scientific/industry research or consulting experience, including any relevant internship experience
• Proficiency with technical coding/programming and ability to participate in a live technical screen (SQL, Python)
• Experience leveraging data analysis as part of the fundamental research process for business, public policy, finance, engineering, applied sciences, or other quantitative fields
• Comfort with analyzing novel data and explaining concepts to non-technical partners
• A passion for finance, research, and using data to solve problems
• Great organizational skills to handle a demanding workload, creativity, and a strong work ethic
• Ability to operate productively in a team environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

What you’ll do
As a Data Engineer focused on Web Scraping, you will be building solutions for processing big and unstructured data sets at Point72. You will be responsible for extracting and ingesting data from websites, using compliance-approved web crawling tools. In this role you will:

• Own the creation process of these tools, services, and workflows to improve crawl/scrape analysis, reports and data management
• Be responsible for testing the data and the scrape to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance
• Own the process to identify and rectify any issues with breaks as well as scale scrapes as needed

What’s required

• Solid Python and SQL knowledge
• Experience in running automated programs at scale
• Working experience with cloud-based technologies
• Familiarity with Linux/UNIX, HTTP, HTML, JavaScript and Networking,
• Familiarity with common techniques and tools for crawling, extracting and processing data (e.g., Requests BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, Pandas, Selenium, Spark, etc.)
• Working knowledge of version control systems and open source practices
• Great analytical and problem-solving skills
• Great communication skills (written and spoken in English)
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field or the equivalent demonstrated experience
• Experience with extracting text from PDFs, images, applications, etc. is a plus
• Experience with system monitoring / administration tools is a plus

The Data Strategy team within Market Intelligence takes a research-oriented and strategic approach to discovering new avenues of insight, manages the inflow of compliant data into our team’s process, and is responsible for managing effective and efficient data and research partnerships on behalf of the firm.

What You’ll Do

As a Data Sourcing and Strategy Operations analyst, you will collaborate with our team, colleagues across the firm, and external vendors to provide essential support required to source data and conduct research that may ultimately be used by our investment teams. Specifically, you will:

• Assist the Data Sourcing and Strategy team in managing relationships with data and research providers, including facilitating requested service changes, ensuring internal use of services follows the firm’s contracts and obligations, and staying current on the evolving data market
• Help manage the team’s operations workflow by working closely with Legal, Compliance, Finance, and other internal stakeholders
• Maintain and manage the Data Sourcing and Strategy knowledgebase by developing an understanding of system architecture
• Develop strong internal relationships by assisting with questions and requests from investment teams, working closely with Data Compliance, and supporting new hire on-boarding
• Coordinate new content provider on-boarding and contract/subscription renewal processes, working with investment teams to assess content requirements, negotiating business terms, and coordinating approvals
