We are looking for an established and experienced China Business Development Specialist with deep knowledge of the China market. Working from our Hong Kong office, you will serve as a valued liaison to our external partners and play an important role in helping our team manage our bank and broker relationships, look after our wallet, and support the firm on longer-term strategic initiatives to ensure the stability of our clearing and trading relationships.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across the firm to expand our relationships with onshore counterparties, including exchanges, brokers/market intermediaries and other service providers. This is a people-focused role that relies heavily on building and maintaining relationships. You’ll be expected to travel and join meetings and represent the firm externally to various partners.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to turn messy, real-world datasets into reliable inputs for research and trading. We are looking for an engineer with experience in low-level systems programming and optimisation to join our growing ML team.
Machine learning is a critical pillar of Jane Street's global business. Our ever-evolving trading environment serves as a unique, rapid-feedback platform for ML experimentation, allowing us to incorporate new ideas with relatively little friction.
Your part here is optimising the performance of our models – both training and inference. About the position
Our goals are to give you a real sense of what it’s like to work as a quantitative trader at Jane Street, and a truly unparalleled educational experience. You’ll be paired with experienced quantitative traders who will teach you how to identify market signals, analyze and execute strategies, construct quantitative models, conduct statistical analysis, and build trading intuition.
You'll work closely with two different mentors on projects relating to their day-to-day work, giving you a sense of the variety of problems we solve every day. Past projects have included analyzing new or existing datasets, training predictive models, simulating potential new trading strategies, writing tools that we use in production, and even working to answer big-picture questions we haven’t yet figured out.
This work is reinforced with intensive classes, workshops, and team-based mock trading sessions. These will expose you to many of the dynamics we observe in real markets, illustrate the role that we play in making markets more efficient, and help build intuition for how we think about both trading and collaborating.

You'll learn how Jane Street applies advanced machine learning and statistical techniques to make models and predictions using large datasets of both real and simulated market data. You'll learn how to train and use a variety of ML models, and gain an understanding of the differences between textbook machine learning and its application to noisy and complex financial data.
Algorithmic Trading and Market Microstructure
You'll learn the end-to-end process of developing an algorithmic trading strategy. You'll analyze market data to develop a tradable fair value and implement a trading strategy in Python. Your algorithmic strategy will connect directly to simulated markets with different market structures, and you will learn how to optimize your strategy given the unique attributes of each market. You will discover how various market dynamics affect strategy behavior and learn how real-world trading differs from simulation.
Trading Strategy and Scenarios
You’ll be introduced to a rotating set of new trading scenarios inspired by real events on a particular trading desk. You’ll work in teams on multiple mock trading sessions related to each scenario and use the time between sessions to refine your strategies, write recaps, and hear how the story played out in real life from our seasoned full-time traders who lived through it.

As a Software Engineering intern, you’ll learn how we use OCaml (our primary development language) in our day to day work, and gain exposure to the libraries and tools that are foundational to our internal systems. During the internship, you’ll be closely mentored by full-time software engineers. Mentors design intern projects based on their team’s current needs and are heavily invested in helping interns build maintainable, high-quality software that is intended to reach production. We work with petabytes of data, a computing cluster with hundreds of thousands of cores, and a growing GPU cluster containing tens of thousands of high-end GPUs. Trading poses unusual challenges—large models and nonstationary datasets in a competitive multi-agent environment—that force us to search for novel techniques.
You’ll spend the bulk of your internship working closely on projects with experienced ML Researchers at Jane Street. You might conduct an end-to-end study of an unexplored dataset, try a new modeling paradigm for a thorny problem, or consider blue-sky approaches that we’re still trying to figure out. The problems we work on rarely have clean, definitive answers, and they often require insights from colleagues across the firm with different areas of expertise. Linux Engineers work with the critical infrastructure underlying the rest of the firm’s technology. Members of this group are hard-working Systems Engineers, Administrators and Programmers, tasked with maintaining and improving the platform that powers Jane Street's production trading systems. Our mix of in-house and open source software allows you to investigate and innovate at every level. We are looking for a highly-driven Technical Product Manager who can provide organization and coordination support for our engineering initiatives. Technology is core to our business, and this role is an opportunity to work alongside our engineers as we build and optimize Jane Street’s trading technology.
You’ll draw from your technical background on a daily basis, leading projects through their entire lifecycle, including defining goals, developing timelines, tracking milestones, managing developer time, identifying risks, and coordinating with related teams. You’ll also communicate project schedules, priorities, and status updates to the larger organization.
Strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities will be necessary to collaborate across a wide range of teams at Jane Street—including developers, business teams, operations, support—as well as with external financial entities, to make sure each project is delivered on time and meets or exceeds stated goals and expectations.
