The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
The New York Times is looking for an editor to manage its space coverage. The Times's large readership takes enormous interest in the Science desk's stories about space and astronomy — which include reporting on SpaceX's latest launches, NASA missions to Mars, meteorites falling to Earth, solar and lunar eclipses, powerful new telescopes studying cosmic mysteries and a growing collection of interstellar comets.
We are seeking a real space ace, someone with significant experience as either an editor or a reporter in covering multiple aspects of the beat. The editor will need to launch reporters on stories quickly, stay abreast of the desk’s competitors and be determined to beat them. But the editor will also need to possess a strong sense of the deep trends underlying the space beat, and be capable of assigning and editing idea-driven and explanatory features that help readers see the past, present and future of space exploration.
The ideal candidate will also have a passion for scientific subjects outside space, helping to manage some reporters on other beats. And they will have a comfort with editing a wide range of story types, as well as strong line editing skills with an ability to improve and elevate every story.
The Science desk is a highly collaborative team; editors and reporters will work closely together to produce varied storytelling forms that resonate with readers. The ideal candidate will have a track record of thinking about the interests of a broad general audience like The Times’s, with a passion for conveying complex stories in plain language.
This is an in-office position, based in New York City, and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

The Company
Nira is a software company with a mission of accelerating the integration of large-scale
renewable energy projects. Developers of solar, wind, and energy storage projects use
Nira’s software to find the best locations to site their projects and help manage them
through the queue. Nira’s software products simplify complex and niche electrical
engineering concepts that would otherwise lead most renewable energy projects to be
cancelled after significant investment.
In less than five years, Nira has solidified a track record of success a with a growing,
and profitable, 25+ employee company. They’ve established an extremely reputable
brand and have a rapidly growing customer base. The opportunity to join such an early
stage, yet risk-reduced, software company in growth mode is a rare opportunity.
Job Description
Nira is hiring Transmission Planning Engineers to join the product team comprised of
half planning engineers and half software engineers. In this role, you’ll work with other
planning engineers and software engineers to build products that help renewable
developers put together successful project portfolios. Specifically, you’ll:
• Focus on deepening and expanding your transmission planning and generator
interconnection studies subject matter expertise.
• Work with software engineers and product managers to codify your domain
knowledge into Nira’s software products’ backend.
• Support the full product life cycle including product ideation, research and
development, coding, sales support, customer support, and product
maintenance.
Who We’re Looking For
This could be a great fit if:
• You have experience with generation interconnection related studies. You
have 2+ years of hands on experience with tools like TARA, PSS/E, Power
World, Python, etc.; and you already have a sense of what data renewable
developers need to build a portfolio of successful projects.
• You’re motivated by having ownership in your work. You take initiative on
projects and have a strong preference to be a trailblazer. Or when the "trail" is
given to you, you are motivated to challenge it and ensure it's the best trail every
step of the way.
• You’re ready to roll up your sleeves for the team, and no task is beneath
you. Sometimes the work isn’t always sexy, but you’re down to do it anyway if it
means advancing the mission and providing value to our customers.
• You want to level up your software engineering skills. The power of Nira
comes from codifying our transmission planning knowledge! You’ll work directly
with an extremely talented group of software engineers to create products. If you
like to code, this is the highest value opportunity in the space to grow this skillset.
• You’re low ego. You may have strong opinions, but you hold them loosely. You
challenge your instincts, are data driven, and aren’t scared to be wrong. You
seek to find the best solutions for our customers even if it runs counter to your
initial thinking.
Why Nira?
Nira is a mission-oriented company that places a strong emphasis on a positive work
culture. They have built a world class team of software engineers and transmission
planning engineers, and you'll be working amongst a team of all stars.
The company is growing exponentially, and the opportunity for professional growth is
huge. The organization is flat, the leadership is transparent, and you get full exposure to
seeing what it takes to go from 0 to 1 with product development and business in

Orennia provides an all-in-one platform for accurate data, predictive analytics and actionable insights across the energy transition. We drive faster capital allocation decisions and help our clients maximize returns across the solar, wind, storage, power, RNG, CCUS, clean fuels and hydrogen sectors. The technology that powers Orennia’s platform delivers an unparalleled experience, distilling information into actionable insights to give our clients a competitive edge.
As the world decarbonizes its energy stack, trillions in capital need to be deployed. Orennia’s platform expedites the energy transition with effective and robust information for smarter capital allocation choices.

As a Protocol Engineer at Daylight, you’ll lead the development of our core smart contracts and decentralized backend systems that underpin our onchain energy network. Our protocol interacts with energy hardware in the real world and tokenizes the value of flexible energy capacity into crypto-native incentives—bridging digital and physical infrastructure through verifiable smart contracts, oracles, and data integrations.
You should bring deep experience in Solidity and DeFi architectures (especially stablecoins, lending, or reward mechanisms), and be comfortable deploying cross-chain smart contracts using modern interoperability protocols like LayerZero or Wormhole. You should also be confident designing systems that ingest and act on offchain data in a trust-minimized way—whether through Chainlink, Chronicle, or custom oracle networks.
We’re a small team working quickly, so you should be comfortable jumping into backend tasks when needed—whether supporting our Django APIs or refining the interface between our offchain services and smart contract layer.
This is a high-impact, high-ownership role. You'll work directly with the founding team, shaping the cryptoeconomic and technical foundation of Daylight's protocol.
