The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) (Rensselaer, NY) seeks a Senior Operations Engineering Engineer to determine system reliability transfer limits, assist management in the review of NYISO controlled and secured facilities in the areas of system studies, maintenance and testing of Power System Protection systems, and reporting and compliance. Will also develop engineering studies and analysis to assist management to make engineering-based recommendations to internal functions, Market Participant committees and the general public. Participate in NERC, NPCC, Regional, and NYISO study groups.
Specifically, duties will include the following responsibilities:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related technical field. The successful candidate must also have two (2) years of experience as an Engineer in the energy field, to include two (2) years of experience with the following:

Attorneys assist with providing legal assessments, interpretations, and recommendations to internal NYISO clients regarding NYISO policies, federal and state statutes, court and regulatory agency orders, regulations and contractual obligations. Attorneys advise and prepare legal documents for, NYISO clients on matters related to energy and other areas of law under the guidance and direction of a Senior Attorney.
This Attorney will also assist the Senior Compliance Attorney with issues related to the NYISO's corporate compliance program. This includes matters under the Code of Conduct and related to NERC, NPCC, NYSRC, NAESB, confidentiality, and CEII. This also includes managing litigation and document holds and the processing of data requests.

The Senior Market Solutions Engineer will lead the electric power system model used by the scheduling and dispatch software. The Senior Market Solutions Engineer will develop and apply a working knowledge of the New York State high voltage transmission system and the network model database software to support the NYISO market and security functions. Additionally, this individual will lead the real-time power system analysis, primarily the EMS software applications and BMS software applications, as well as the development and evolution of the Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Energy Market Systems (BMS). The Senior Market Solutions Engineer will also lead the development and evolution of the Smart-Grid application software. Strong Power Systems or Electrical Engineering with power system software and/or mathematical optimization knowledge is desired for this position.

The NYISO Demand Forecasting and Analysis team is responsible for predictive modeling and data analytics that span both short-term (from 5-minutes up to one week ahead) and long-term (10 years or more) time horizons, and gives substantial consideration to regional trends in energy efficiency, energy storage, distributed solar photovoltaics, and electrification of the heating and transportation sectors.
The primary responsibility of this position is to develop and maintain analytical and statistical models of residential, commercial, and industrial end-use data in order to produce long term energy and demand forecasts These end-uses include HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), lighting, refrigeration, industrial motor end uses, solar photovoltaics, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. These models are used for quantifying and forecasting the volume and peak demand of end user consumption (load) across the New York Control Area (NYCA). This position will assist in the monitoring of activities in energy efficiency, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and public policy programs and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to update and enhance forecasting and analysis methods as a subject-matter expert. This position will also assist in the preparation of the annual Load and Capacity Data Report (“Gold Book”) and supporting forecasts and analyses.

The Spark Rotational Program Participant will be expected to develop and demonstrate technical expertise and strong leadership skills throughout their two year rotational program.
Participants are hired directly into a home department where they build strong technical and professional foundations while contributing to projects that support the reliability of New York’s power grid. Participants will also expand their organizational perspective through learning experiences, job shadowing, and partial rotations across multiple departments.
This individual will support the electric power system model used by the scheduling and dispatch software. Experience with computer programs used in analytical power engineering system studies, e.g., power-flow, short circuit, and/or transient stability as well as experience with models and databases used in analytical power engineering system studies needed. Knowledge of NERC, NPCC, and NYSRC reliability standards and practices related to power system planning and design especially transmission planning and design desired, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The NYISO’s External Affairs department invites applications for a full-time Stakeholder Services Representative.
The Stakeholder Services Representative is the primary interface with the NYISO’s Market Participants, operating in a highly technical and dynamic environment responding to inquiries from Market Participants and prospective Market Participants along with state and federal entities and the public. The role of a Stakeholder Services Representative is to support their colleagues in the day-to-day operations as needed, demonstrate consistent leadership characteristics in dealing with internal/external customers including supporting NYISO management and policies. The department fields technical inquiries from electric generators, utilities, demand response providers, and consumers that participate in New York’s wholesale power markets.
The Stakeholder Services Representative must be able to comprehend and resolve technical issues, working independently in a team environment, performing highly complex tasks resolving inquiries impacting Market Participant interactions with NYISO’s market systems and grid operations. The Stakeholder Services Representative will resolve technical/in-depth challenging inquiries, understanding customer positions, act as their advocate before the NYISO working closely with Market Participants to educate them on NYISO’s markets, products, and services. The Stakeholder Services Representative will research and respond to inquiries of a technical and/or market-related nature. They will autonomously review complex information relevant to participants in NY’s high voltage electric power markets and resolve these inquiries using existing and newly created documentation and in concert with the efforts of subject matter experts. The Stakeholder Services representative is a unique role where interaction with every NYISO department is necessary to be successful. Working in a highly matrix environment across the enterprise, the Stakeholder Services representative is responsible from start to finish on all inquiries. They also Work directly with internal NYISO departments across the value chain to test/coordinate new products/enhancements including assisting/ Member Relations. Interaction across departments to deliver a complete customer service experience is imperative as we work to register new Market Participants and foster relationships. The Stakeholder Services Representative will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the NYISO’s markets and processes while meeting the individual needs of the customers participating in NYISO’s wholesale electric market.

The Senior Planning Engineer coordinates, performs and reviews technical studies related to the interconnection of proposed new generation, transmission and load facilities to the New York State transmission system. Also coordinates with other SRP and NYISO departments as necessary to prepare various reports and filings as appropriate. Will respond to customer, regulator or other outside inquiries as appropriate and assists in development or review of new or modified documents such as tariffs, manuals, reliability standards, etc. as appropriate. Generally, a Senior Planning Engineer provides high level technical guidance to other System and Resource Planning staff or other departments as necessary.

The Market Design Specialist will act as a technical expert in the design, modification, and implementation of market rules for the NYISO’s market products. S/he will work collaboratively with internal and external NYISO stakeholders to facilitate and support the research and design of new market rules and products and develop enhancements to existing market rules and products. S/he will assist in the development of new business processes, market rules, and tariff changes. The Market Design Specialist will lead the development of business requirements to implement new market designs. S/he will present proposals for new and evolving market designs and rules to NYISO stakeholders, including internal NYISO staff, senior management, market participants, and others. S/he will act as the primary point of contact between market participants and internal NYISO stakeholders. S/he will support project teams with the implementation of market designs.
