Origis Energy is seeking a finance professional for the role of Investment Associate or Manager to join our growing team.  This position will assist the Company in evaluating, underwriting and managing investments in utility scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage System projects, evaluating project-level financing options, performance reporting and asset management for existing operational projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Investment related tasks, including:
• Excel-based project financial modeling, structuring support, ad-hoc investment analysis
• Build and maintain project financial models throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, from inception through operations
• Liaising with relevant cross-functional stakeholders (Business Development, Project Development, Engineering, O&M, Procurement, Tax, Data Science, Legal, Capital Markets) to ensure project information is accurate and consistent
• Preparation and presentation of pricing and final investment memos to the Company’s Chief Executive Officer and investment committee
• Analyzing and evaluating strategic corporate M&A opportunities
• Provide modeling support and guidance to Capital Markets team on debt and tax equity project financings
• Assisting with pricing, negotiation, and evaluation of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and battery tolling agreements, with a particular focus on performance forecasting and quantifying financial impacts of risks and key terms; performing analysis of existing contracted and operating fleet to benchmark underwriting against real-time data to create a feed-back loop for process improvement

• New market research and analysis includes:
  • Ability to understand key power-market trends in both regulated and deregulated power markets and how they relate to the Company’s portfolio
  • Providing thought leadership on commercial negotiations as well as help drive internal development priorities for optimal return on capital
  • Ability to understand federal, state and local programs for renewable energy incentives and siting / tax opportunities
  • Analyzing the incentive and tax environment and ability to underwrite various revenue streams
• Financial Planning & Analysis duties includes:
  • Prepare detailed budgets for investment projects, reporting on budget to actuals and be responsible for cash management on relevant investment projects
  • Coordinate all activities to assure a successful and timely realization of the project
  • Communicate with Capital Markets, Accounting and FP&A department on changes on projects and corporate liquidity impacts of projected tax equity & back-leverage financings
• Other tasks include:
  • Assist in the acquisition and sale of projects
  • General support for ad hoc strategic initiatives

 Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of renewable energy power plants
• Expert financial modeling skills are essential; prior financial modeling experience (LBO, Cash Flow, Debt Sculpting)
• Intimate knowledge of tax equity and project financing structures, including a deep understanding of tax equity partnership accounting (inside / outside basis)
• Ideally 3+ years’ experience in renewable energy development / private equity / investment banking / project finance; 2+ years’ experience in renewables / solar strongly preferred
• Exposure to PPA agreements
• Base level understanding of power markets
• Bachelor’s degree (MBA/CFA or Master’s degree in related field preferred but not required)

Position Description

Origis Energy is seeking an experienced M&A professional to lead and execute the company’s utility scale solar and energy storage business growth strategies.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of sourcing, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing attractive project and portfolio acquisitions and dispositions. 

The position will serve as an integral leadership role as part of a high performing M&A team responsible for all aspects of profitable growth, expansion via mergers and acquisitions, and capital recycling.  The role provides an opportunity to join a leading, vertically integrated renewable energy developer with an extensive portfolio of operating and under construction projects along with a growing pipeline of utility scale solar and energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute the company’s M&A strategies in alignment with growth and shareholder return objectives
• Lead the origination, analysis, structuring, documentation, and execution of utility scale solar and storage project acquisitions and dispositions
• Analyze different markets through an investment lens and make recommendations for M&A activity; such analysis would include an assessment of the political, regulatory, legal, and tax environment for a given market, along with supply/demand and other economic considerations
• Establish and maintain relationships with advisors, brokers, and developers to source attractive opportunities aligned with the company’s business objectives and underwriting criteria
• Perform project due diligence across various functional areas, as applicable, including, interconnection, real estate, permitting, environmental, EPC, and project operations
• Work closely with in-house and external counsel along with the CIO to review, negotiate and close purchase and sale agreements, joint development, and partnership agreements
• Manage post-acquisition development, financing, and commercial obligations and activities
• Communicate with other departments within the company including Development, Origination, Capital Markets, Engineering, and Accounting on transaction details as well as business planning and work processes
• Prepare presentations and analysis necessary to obtain internal investment committee and company Board approvals
• Maintain opportunity pipeline reporting, as well as department budgets, forecasts, and acquisition financing needs in coordination with the CIO
• Explore and lead improvements in acquisition opportunity screening and analysis
• Be responsible for various internal administrative functions which are required to support acquisitions
• Provide hands-on leadership, guidance, mentorship, training, development, and performance management to M&A team members

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
• Minimum 7 (seven) years of relevant renewable energy industry experience in business development, M&A, project finance, or corporate development
• Experience serving in a transaction leadership role; preferably within a renewable energy development or IPP business
• Advanced knowledge of solar, solar + storage, and stand-alone storage markets and economics
• Established relationships with renewable sector advisors, brokers, and developers
• Experience in financial modeling and valuation analysis of relevant projects and markets; including advanced Excel skills
• Strong commercial, technical, analytical, and creative transaction structuring abilities
• Rigorous and detail oriented with the highest regard for accuracy and completeness
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, integrated team environment
