1 in 4 people in the US have a treatable mental health condition, but most providers don't accept insurance, making therapy too expensive for most people. Headway’s mission is to fix this by building a new mental healthcare system everyone can access. We started by solving the biggest barrier to care: insurance. The admin work - credentialing, claims, payment reconciliation - is a nightmare. We've automated that.
But we're going further. Over 70,000 providers across all 50 states run their practice on our software, serving over 1 million patients. We are building the best tools for therapists to run their entire practice, reimagining the experience of finding a therapist, and investing in the platform foundations to enable this at scale. We aren't just a billing layer; we are becoming the platform where care actually happens.
We're a Series D company with $325M+ in funding (a16z, Accel, GV, etc.), looking for exceptional people to help us achieve this mission. We want your time here to be the most meaningful experience of your career. Join us, and help change mental healthcare for the better.
We're looking for a Director of Clinical Excellence and Education to own network oversight and build and scale Headway's provider education programs. In this role, you will establish the strategy, infrastructure, and content that empower therapists, psychologists, and psychiatric prescribers in Headway's network to deliver exceptional care while fostering trust and transparency among the provider community.
Headway's provider network has grown rapidly, and with that growth comes an opportunity to invest deeply in the clinicians who make our mission possible. You would join as the leader of this function, to bring visibility to the health of the network and shape how Headway educates, supports, and upskills tens of thousands of mental health providers across the country. Given the scale of the Headway provider network, under your leadership, we have the opportunity to be a national leader in Mental Health Provider Education.
You will own the end-to-end clinical education strategy in partnership with Clinical, Product, and Growth leadership at Headway. You will design and deliver clinical excellence programs and scalable learning experiences, from continuing education curricula and onboarding programs to peer learning communities and practice-building resources. You will manage the learning management system (LMS) and community platforms that underpin this work. Your programs will measurably improve provider engagement, clinical quality, and retention across Headway's network. You will also help ensure the visibility and integrity of Headway's provider network by tracking key indicators of network health and driving clinical excellence and education programs that reinforce clinical standards, documentation quality, and regulatory compliance.
This role requires deep clinical credibility, expertise in adult learning, and the ability to build systems that scale. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across Clinical, Product, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, Growth, and Data. You'll have a chance to directly shape how Headway supports its providers. Externally, you will engage with leading voices in mental health education, professional development, and provider community building.
This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical expertise, education design, and community leadership at a company that is transforming access to mental health care.

The Problem
Severe mental illness affects over 15 million adults in the United States. Schizophrenia. Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar I. Treatment-resistant depression. These are the conditions the rest of healthcare has systematically failed to build for.
What makes this problem different from most of healthcare is that the tools to solve it do not exist. The clinical protocols, the measurement science, the precision medicine, the technology to deliver coordinated longitudinal outpatient care for this population. None of it has been built. This is a frontier problem, and it requires frontier science and care delivery to solve.
We are developing all of it. The care, the science, the technology.
Who We Are
Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation delivering specialty outpatient care for people with severe mental illness through high-acuity, in-person clinics nationwide.
Our integrated model brings psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community support together under one roof. Leading health systems—including New York-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit—collaborate with us to expand this level of care.
Alongside care delivery, we are building the science and technology the field has long lacked—proprietary clinical protocols, novel measurement, and an AI-driven data platform designed for severe mental illness.
The impact: fewer hospitalizations, greater stability, and more people living meaningful lives in their communities.
The Team
We are clinicians, operators, technologists, and scientists who chose Amae because the problem is hard and the stakes are real. We are not interested in incremental improvements to a broken system.
Our teams work cross-functionally because the work demands it. The psychiatrist informs the product roadmap. Engineers understand the clinical complexity their technology must solve. Researchers sit alongside the operators running the clinics their work measures.
Every function—finance, product, people, growth, technology—exists to serve one goal: better outcomes for the people we care for.
The Opportunity
“Amae” means "the ability to depend on those around you." As our first Head of Product Design & User Research, you will design and perform research for our two flagship platforms, transforming them from utilities into delightful experiences that patients and clinicians actually love to use.
What You’ll Work On
What You'll Have
What We’re Building
Most healthcare companies ask you to optimize an existing system. We’re building one that has never existed.
If you want to maintain the status quo, this isn’t the place. If you want to build what doesn’t exist yet—and change how an entire population receives care—keep reading.
Compensation & Benefits
Amae Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Base salary range for this role is $215,000 to $255,000 per year based on level and a full-time schedule and the compensation package will include equity. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, unlimited PTO, parental leave and programs built around well-being. We’ll share specifics during the interview process.
What We Value
We center care in all we do. Empathy is not a brand value. It’s how we make clinical decisions, build products, and treat each other.
We challenge convention. The existing system is the problem. We question it, we test alternatives, and we move with urgency when something works.
We take the work seriously, not ourselves. High standards and humanity are not in tension. We hold a hard bar for quality while leaving room for humor and levity.
Your job isn’t done until the job is done. We close gaps, we follow through, and we don’t hide behind titles or org charts.
We win together and fail together. We own outcomes as a team. We learn fast. We don’t do blame.
We hustle with humility. Speed matters. So does integrity. We assume best intent and stay grounded in the mission.

You will own key parts of our growth engine: building and driving the partnerships pipeline, driving health plan and health system BD, leading outreach, developing strategic materials, and helping land new health system and value-based care agreements. You’ll work across the full commercial lifecycle — from first touch to signed contract — with visibility into every lever of growth.
We’re looking for someone early in their career with a high ceiling — sharp, organized, low ego, and motivated by the mission. You may come from consulting, banking, or a fast-moving healthcare or tech company. You don’t need to have done all of this before — but you should learn quickly, take ownership, and care about getting it right.
We are open to considering candidates who are based in San Francisco or New York City. This role will require onsite presence in office Monday through Friday.
What You'll Work On
Partnerships & Business Development
Sales & Revenue Generation
Strategic Projects & Special Initiatives
Operations & Coordination
What You'll Have
Nice to Have
Why This Role Matters
Founder Associate roles at mission-driven startups are some of the most formative experiences available to early-career professionals. You will see the full picture of how a healthcare company grows; what it actually takes to close a health plan partnership, why some deals stall and others accelerate, how a commercial strategy gets built and rebuilt in real time.
You will work directly with a co-founder who has built and closed some of the most innovative health system and VBC agreements in behavioral health. You will have access to a leadership team with decades of experience across healthcare, technology, and operations. And you will do it all in the service of patients who genuinely need someone in their corner.
For the right person, this is a career-defining opportunity. We expect you to grow into more senior roles at Amae as the company scales; and we're committed to supporting that growth.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation includes a base salary of $100,000 - $165,000 (based on experience) plus equity ownership, giving you a meaningful stake in Amae's growth. Total compensation includes comprehensive medical/dental/vision, unlimited PTO, parental leave, and programs built around employee well-being. We’ll share specifics during the interview process.
Amae Health is building the care platform, the precision medicine, and the frontier science that severe mental illness has never had. If you want to be part of creating something this hard and this important, something that has never been done, we’d like to talk.

Who We Are
Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people living with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. We design and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics across the United States.
Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community health workers under one roof to deliver coordinated, longitudinal care for a population that has historically been fragmented across systems.
Leading health systems collaboate with Amae to bring this model to their communities, including NewYork-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit Health.
Why We Are Different
Integrated care, not a referral network. Psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, dietitians, and community health workers work side-by-side and share responsibility for the same patients.
Practice at the top of your license. Manageable caseloads, meaningful clinical depth, and purpose-built tools designed for this population.
Continuous learning. Through our collaboration with Mass General Brigham, clinicians receive ongoing training, supervision, and mentorship in evidence-based SMI care.
Advancing the field. Our clinicians contribute to new outcomes frameworks and research shaping the future of severe mental illness care.
A model built for sustainability. Team-based care, thoughtful caseloads, and strong infrastructure make this work meaningful—and sustainable over time.
The Role
We are hiring a Psychiatrist (FT/PT) to join us onsite in our San Mateo, CA clinic as part of an interdisciplinary team committed to providing personalized, compassionate, high-quality SMI care.

What We're Building
As a clinician at Amae, you are not adjacent to this work. You are essential to it.
Compensation & Benefits
Amae Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Base salary range for this role is $320,000-$350,000 per year on a full time basis and will be adjusted to market cost. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Parental leave and programs built around well-being. Note that part-time comp and benefits packages will vary depending on schedule. We’ll share specifics during the interview process.
If you want to practice at the top of your license, learn from the best in academic medicine, contribute to research that is defining a new field, and do it all inside a team that was actually built for this work, we'd like to talk.

The impact: fewer hospitalizations, greater stability, and more people living meaningful lives in their communities.
The Team
We are clinicians, operators, technologists, and scientists who chose Amae because the problem is hard and the stakes are real. We are not interested in incremental improvements to a broken system
Our teams work cross-functionally because the work demands it. The psychiatrist informs the product roadmap. Engineers understand the clinical complexity their technology must solve. Researchers sit alongside the operators running the clinics their work measures.

The Role
We’re hiring our first dedicated marketing hire — someone who can build and own the full marketing stack for Amae. You’ll work directly with our co-founders to shape Amae’s brand voice and positioning, and own end-to-end execution across every channel.
This is a creative, builder role. You’re the right person for this if you’re an AI-native operator who uses tools to multiply your output, have a genuine point of view on brand, and thrive in environments where the playbook doesn’t exist yet.

About You:
You are a true talent specialist, someone who gets a rush from uncovering hard-to-find candidates and nurturing relationships that turn into high-impact hires. You thrive in high-growth, high-ambiguity environments such as a Series B company, and you understand what strong talent looks like and why it matters. If you have a growth mindset, love building systems from scratch, and want to help shape the future of an innovative care model, we would be excited to talk to you.

We are not interested in incremental improvements to a broken system
Our teams work cross-functionally because the work demands it. The psychiatrist informs the product roadmap. Engineers understand the clinical complexity their technology must solve. Researchers sit alongside the operators running the clinics their work measures.
Every function—finance, product, people, growth, technology—exists to serve one goal: better outcomes for the people we care for.
This is a full-time onsite role based in either our San Francisco office in Cow Hollow or our NYC Union Square office.

Compensation includes a base salary of $120,000 - $160,000 (based on level & experience) plus equity ownership, giving you a meaningful stake in Amae's growth.
