As a senior member of our infrastructure team, you will be equipped with essential tools and technologies designed for scaling and enhancing Mercury's infrastructure:

AWS Services: Proficiently utilize EC2, RDS, IAM, Networking, Opensearch, and ECS to build and manage robust cloud environments.
Terraform: Leverage Terraform for infrastructure as code to efficiently manage and provision our cloud resources.
Agentic Infrastructure: Build the frameworks around using AI safely in our infrastructure, both for the agents and the users that kick off those agents.
Monitoring and Observability Tools: Employ Prometheus, Grafana, Opensearch, and OpenTelemetry to maintain high availability and monitor system health.
Version Control and CI/CD: Manage code and automate deployments using GitHub & GitHub Actions.

As we gear up for the next stages of Mercury's growth, you will:

Build our “Infrastructure Platform” to support the growing needs of the Engineering Organization.
Focus on building a platform that is AI friendly while still usable for engineers. We want our users to be humans and Agents.
Lead key infrastructure projects, break-down complex initiatives, and define our infrastructure strategy through detailed RFCs and technical specifications.

Must haves:

You have 5+ years of experience with AWS
You have extensive experience, ideally 3 years or more, with observability and monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry, optimizing system performance and reliability.
You have demonstrated ability in technical writing, with at least 3 years of experience creating detailed technical documentation, RFCs, and tech specs that clearly communicate complex ideas.

The ideal candidate should:

You bring at least 2 years of experience leading infrastructure projects in regulated environments such as HITRUST or SOC2, ensuring compliance and security.
You have 3+ years of experience managing large-scale Terraform implementations, including the setup and maintenance of Terraform CI/CD pipelines.
You have 2+ years of experience writing code. We are building an Infrastructure Platform from scratch and there is plenty of code to write to support that.
Experience mentoring and elevating those around you, we are force multipliers for the engineering org.

What you'll do

You'll join a team that has already started building Mercury's internal AI platform and enablement layer. Your work will be to extend, harden, and scale what's in motion, and to help partner teams adopt it.

Extend the AI platform foundation

Build and evolve MCP servers that connect internal systems and data sources into a coherent interface for agents and engineers.
Expand and operate our LLM gateway infrastructure: routing, rate limiting, cost attribution, and observability across teams.
Turn early patterns into durable defaults: shared prompt libraries, guardrails, and policy-as-code so teams can move fast safely.

Strengthen the shared company knowledge layer

Shape and maintain structured context artifacts—clean, reliable, agent-consumable—so LLMs working in Mercury's systems can reason accurately about our domain.
Improve internal knowledge discoverability and retrieval so both humans and agents can quickly find accurate answers.
Partner with domain teams to standardize key sources of truth, and keep them fresh.

Enable faster prototyping and iteration across the company

Build and refine sandbox environments and tooling that let engineers experiment with AI safely and at speed.
Create self-service scaffolding so non-engineers—PMs, ops, finance—can prototype and deploy AI-powered workflows with minimal hand-holding.
Build playgrounds and evaluation harnesses so internal AI agents can be tested and iterated in controlled environments before hitting production.

The ideal candidate

Has 5+ years of backend development experience in complex, production systems—you've built things that other engineers depended on.

When the Space Shuttle approached the International Space Station, two vehicles built by different teams, in different countries, with fundamentally different engineering philosophies and systems, had to connect perfectly. The Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) subsystems were engineered to handle complex mismatches such as different power systems, communication protocols, and technical architectures. Get it wrong, and you have an expensive and potentially catastrophic problem in low Earth orbit.

Mercury announced on December 19, 2025 that we submitted an application to the OCC for a national bank charter and applied for FDIC deposit insurance. In other words, Mercury is building a bank. As part of this work, we will be connecting our modern, product-focused engineering systems to enterprise core banking systems and payment networks built in a different era, with different assumptions and different interfaces. Mercury’s Banking Integration Platform as a Service team is like NASA’s RPOD team, building our integration subsystems that are technically correct and operationally trustworthy.

This is some of the most consequential infrastructure work at Mercury. Every account opening, every monetary transaction, and every balance call will flow through the systems you build. Product teams across the company will depend on clean abstractions that hide the complexity underneath. You'll be one of the few engineers at Mercury who truly understands the full depth of our Bank Core* and all its internal and external integrations.

In this role, you will:

Build Mercury’s integration with an FFIEC-approved bank core and the connections to payment networks.
Design internal APIs that give product teams simple, consistent interfaces to complex external systems.
Handle the messy realities of enterprise integrations such as retries, failures, format mismatches, and downtime.
Build data pipelines that keep Mercury's systems in sync with our bank core.
Own monitoring, alerting, and recovery for our most critical external connections.

The year is 1969. The location: Stuttgart, West Germany. Engineers are pacing with strained expressions. They are looking over the Porsche 917, the company's latest attempt at a race car. It's not working properly. The car is one of the most powerful ever built. But drivers describe it as terrifyingly unstable… "a monster". Despite this, Porsche runs it in Le Mans to disastrous results. One of the cars crashes on lap one, ending in tragedy for its driver. All other 917s break down in the race.

Enter John Wyer, a British race engineer, whom the factory calls upon for help. After a long day of testing, John recognizes a lack of smashed bugs on the rear wing and deduces that the wing is not working properly. The team modifies the design to be more upward swept and the 917K takes on a new winning character. It wins LeMans outright in 1970 and goes on to be the most successful race car design of the 70s. Stability, it turns out, was the missing ingredient.

In this role, you’ll focus on onX’s Core Viewer cross-platform map rendering engine as part of the Map Viewer team, supporting map rendering for all onX verticals. WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will write C++, Swift and Kotlin, leveraging OpenGL and Metal
You help develop a 3D map viewing SDK for mobile and web.
Build reliability and performance tracking tools to monitor the map engine in production
Serve as a map API subject matter expert for vertical application developers
Optimize the rendering, culling, and spatial positioning algorithms that drive the map’s visual presentation
Set up dependency/artifact / build pipeline to create consumable dependencies for iOS, Android and web (Swift Package Manager, Android Libraries).
Integrate automated testing and performance measurement into the Core Viewer CI pipeline for all platforms
Look for opportunities to embed AI as a repeatable co-pilot in daily workflows by integrating experimentation into real work, and continuously refining its use with sound judgment and validation.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Minimum of five (5) years of experience shipping and maintaining production code
At least one (1) year of experience was focused on 3D map rendering (WebGL, OpenGL, Vulcan, Metal and/or DirectX) and at least (3) years of experience with mobile development.
Fundamentals of graphics programming, including the Graphics Pipeline
Experience with culling, clipping, and spatial partitioning algorithms. Quad- or oct-trees is a plus
Concurrency and multithreading for network requests and computation
Experience with protocol buffers
Experience with working with analytics data, BigQuery or a similar big data query language
Knowledge of scene graphs

In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.

About the Team

Our team is responsible for a large part of the server-side development — camera integration and support. We work with a wide variety of camera manufacturers, each using different protocols (IP-based, TCP/UDP, HTTP, SOAP, ONVIF, and various proprietary text and binary protocols).

The integration team investigates and supports these protocols, often performing reverse engineering. A significant part of the work involves debugging issues on local and remote devices using tools like Wireshark.

Our software runs on a wide range of hardware and operating systems. We build efficient, portable solutions using modern C++ (C++20/23), along with CMake, Conan, and Git.

What You’ll Be Doing

Examine various camera APIs and develop plugins for different vendors
Add support for new cameras and devices (NVRs, DVRs, intercoms, IP speakers, etc.)
Implement support for new camera features and capabilities
Maintain and improve camera support on the server side
Collaborate with the core server team to enhance camera-server interaction
Investigate Wireshark logs and server logs to diagnose and resolve issues reported by technical support
Troubleshoot complex problems, including server crashes and device-specific issues
Interact with device manufacturers to improve and stabilize integrations
Refactor existing code and increase unit and functional test coverage

About the Job

We are developing a core technology that will operate in the worst conditions the world’s oceans have to offer for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention. As a Senior Structural Engineer - Simulation, you will be the architect of the digital tools that define our physical success. You will sit at the intersection of structural mechanics and high-performance computing, developing the solvers and automation pipelines that allow us to evaluate millions of design possibilities with physics-backed confidence.

You will lead the development of our internal Julia-based reduced order structural models (ROM) and the pipelines connecting these fast solvers with high-fidelity FEA.

Responsibilities

Maintain and advance our reduced-order beam element analysis tool written in Julia. Author new load cases, fix bugs, and optimize performance.
Build and maintain seamless automation pipelines that transition designs from reduced-order models to high-fidelity FEA shell element models.
Collaborate with Marine Ops, Manufacturing, and ME teams to define and analyze critical load environments, including wave slamming, tow loads, crane lifts, and fatigue.
Own the mass estimation process for candidate devices, providing high-accuracy tracking as we iterate through new design concepts.
Verify automated results using classical hand calculations and perform FEA in Nastran to validate the accuracy of reduced-order outputs.
Leverage Docker, GCP, and PostgreSQL/Python to manage large-scale simulation data and cloud-based compute workloads.
Act as the structural simulation lead for novel primary structures, ensuring designs are well-understood from a structural perspective even when conceptual in their maturity.

Required qualifications

An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience and expertise.

About the Job

We are seeking an experienced Test Engineer, Electromechanical Integration to design, build, and commission control systems and mechanical hardware for our large-scale test facilities. This role spans the complete lifecycle - from CAD design and electrical schematics through panel fabrication, assembly, and commissioning - bridging mechanical and electrical engineering.

You'll collaborate closely with other engineers and designers across disciplines to determine system requirements, design hardware, and integrate mechanical and electronics systems into functional assemblies. Your work will ensure our test infrastructure operates safely, meets industrial standards, and performs reliably in demanding environments.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Staff Data Engineer is a senior leader responsible for designing and evolving core components of onX’s lakehouse and data platform. This role focuses on how data is structured, governed, secured, and described so that analytics, product features, and AI systems can operate reliably at scale.

This engineer operates at the intersection of data architecture, metadata, governance, and security, leading complex initiatives and setting technical direction within the Data Engineering organization. They are a trusted technical partner to Product, Analytics, Data Science, Security, and Platform teams, and serve as a force multiplier for other engineers through high-level technical guidance and active mentorship.

As an onX Data Engineer, your day to day responsibilities would look like:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

Design and evolve the Iceberg-based lakehouse architecture to balance scalability, cost, performance, and maintainability.
Define and promote standards for table design, partitioning, schema evolution, optimization, and data layout.
Lead architectural efforts spanning batch, streaming, and event-driven data processing where they deliver business value.
Drive the design and delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives, enabling teams to move independently within established architectural guidance.
Build vs. Buy: Evaluate and integrate technologies.

Metadata, Governance & Open Standards

Define how datasets, pipelines, features, and models are described, related, and governed using shared metadata.
Lead the adoption and integration of open-source metadata and catalog tools (e.g., OpenMetadata or similar ecosystems).
Establish metadata standards that enable self-service analytics, governance, and AI readiness.
Partner with BI and Analytics to ensure domain models are clearly documented and aligned to business language.
Collaborate with Data Science to ensure model inputs, features, and outputs are traceable, explainable, and reusable.

Security, Access Control & Compliance

Design and evolve security and access-control models for Apache Iceberg, including table-, column-, and row-level controls.
Partner with Security and Platform teams to embed policy enforcement directly into data access paths.
Drive metadata-driven authorization patterns that scale across tools and user groups.
Ensure privacy, compliance, and regulatory requirements are incorporated into platform design.
Balance strong security guarantees with usability to support safe self-service.

Platform Reliability & Operations

Build and maintain automation for compaction, retention, lifecycle management, and cost controls.
Establish observability standards that connect pipeline health, data quality, and reliability metrics.
Provide architectural oversight during critical incidents and drive long-term 'Keep the Lights On' (KTLO) reduction.
Recommend tooling and process improvements based on industry standards and operational experience.

Organizational Impact & Collaboration

Align technical work with business priorities by understanding how data supports onX products and customer outcomes.
Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineers, product partners, and leadership.
Lead and participate in architecture and design reviews, setting a high bar for technical rigor.
Foster strong cross-team collaboration across Data Engineering, Platform, Security, Analytics, and Data Science.
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raising the technical bar across the team.

LOCATION

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub.”

Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
Basecamps: Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.
- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
Connection Hubs: Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Deep industry experience (typically 12+ years) building and operating large-scale data systems.
Deep expertise in distributed data systems and data architecture.
Strong experience with Apache Iceberg and similar table formats (Delta Lake, Hudi).
Proven experience designing secure and governed data platforms.
Expertise in Python, SQL, and orchestration patterns (e.g., Airflow).
Experience working with data ecosystems, including metadata, catalog, or governance tooling.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Permanent U.S. work authorization.

Cloud & Platform Experience

Deep experience in at least one major cloud environment (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
Familiarity with cloud-native data services such as query engines, stream/batch processing systems, and object storage–based lakehouses.
Comfort with infrastructure-as-code and automated platform management.

COMPENSATION

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $175,000 to $218,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
