In 1600, William Gilbert published De Magnete—the first systematic study of magnetism. He didn't just theorize; he built instruments, ran experiments, and shared what he learned so that others could go further. Three centuries later, those foundations helped power the modern world.
At Mercury, we're making a deliberate, company-wide bet on AI. Frontier users are already pushing boundaries—building agents, automating workflows, moving fast. But they're doing it in silos. This role exists to change that: to take those scattered experiments and turn them into shared infrastructure, shared context, and shared capability. The goal is a multiplier effect—where the most ambitious AI work inside Mercury lifts the velocity of everyone else.
You'll join a team that has already started building Mercury's internal AI platform and enablement layer. Your work will be to extend, harden, and scale what's in motion, and to help partner teams adopt it.
This list is illustrative. Priorities will shift as we learn; the right person will help choose the next highest-leverage work.

When the Space Shuttle approached the International Space Station, two vehicles built by different teams, in different countries, with fundamentally different engineering philosophies and systems, had to connect perfectly. The Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) subsystems were engineered to handle complex mismatches such as different power systems, communication protocols, and technical architectures. Get it wrong, and you have an expensive and potentially catastrophic problem in low Earth orbit.
Mercury announced on December 19, 2025 that we submitted an application to the OCC for a national bank charter and applied for FDIC deposit insurance. In other words, Mercury is building a bank. As part of this work, we will be connecting our modern, product-focused engineering systems to enterprise core banking systems and payment networks built in a different era, with different assumptions and different interfaces. Mercury’s Banking Integration Platform as a Service team is like NASA’s RPOD team, building our integration subsystems that are technically correct and operationally trustworthy.
This is some of the most consequential infrastructure work at Mercury. Every account opening, every monetary transaction, and every balance call will flow through the systems you build. Product teams across the company will depend on clean abstractions that hide the complexity underneath. You'll be one of the few engineers at Mercury who truly understands the full depth of our Bank Core* and all its internal and external integrations.

Every new customer who applies for a Mercury bank* account is like a new star igniting in the night sky. At first glance, it’s a single spark. But look closer, and a constellation emerges—identity and business verification, ownership and control checks, sanctions and adverse media screening, and fraud signals—all pulling on one another with invisible gravity.
The Risk Engineering team is the navigation system for this universe.
Our job is to guide thousands of ambitious people safely through Mercury’s orbit every day—each with its own trajectory, risk profile, and story. We operate at escape velocity: moving fast, making confident decisions, and protecting the system without slowing down the builders who rely on us. When we do our work well, founders open bank accounts in delightful minutes, not days—and never have to think about the complexity humming beneath the surface.
Now we’re entering a new era. We’re building agentic AI systems that don’t just score risk, but reason about it—systems that can investigate, decide, escalate, and learn. These agents will help power and automate our KYC Refresh, EDD, ODD, and compliance workflows, taking our operations to the next level of efficiency and scale. The goal: less manual toil, earlier risk detection, sharper decisions, and experiences that feel almost magical in their simplicity.
This is where you come in.
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is energized by the idea of bringing intelligent automation to life in real production systems. Someone who wants to design and build AI-driven workflows that can think in steps, adapt to new information, and orchestrate complex decisions across people, models, and services. Someone who sees compliance not as red tape, but as a fascinating systems problem at planetary scale.
If you’re excited to build agentic AI that matters—software that protects millions of dollars, unlocks opportunities for founders around the world, and helps shape the future of banking—we’d love to explore the universe together.

The year is 1969. The location: Stuttgart, West Germany. Engineers are pacing with strained expressions. They are looking over the Porsche 917, the company's latest attempt at a race car. It's not working properly. The car is one of the most powerful ever built. But drivers describe it as terrifyingly unstable… "a monster". Despite this, Porsche runs it in Le Mans to disastrous results. One of the cars crashes on lap one, ending in tragedy for its driver. All other 917s break down in the race.
Enter John Wyer, a British race engineer, whom the factory calls upon for help. After a long day of testing, John recognizes a lack of smashed bugs on the rear wing and deduces that the wing is not working properly. The team modifies the design to be more upward swept and the 917K takes on a new winning character. It wins LeMans outright in 1970 and goes on to be the most successful race car design of the 70s. Stability, it turns out, was the missing ingredient.
Mercury prides itself in providing powerful banking* services. But if those services aren’t reliable, Mercury will fail. The Stability team exists to help product engineers see patterns of instability and remedy them. We champion and improve observability. We've helped define incident response. We have introduced and support robust background work processing. We monitor and build tooling around platform and database health. And with your help, we will explore how to make Mercury even more reliable.
As part of this role, you will:

Our team is responsible for a large part of the server-side development — camera integration and support. We work with a wide variety of camera manufacturers, each using different protocols (IP-based, TCP/UDP, HTTP, SOAP, ONVIF, and various proprietary text and binary protocols).
The integration team investigates and supports these protocols, often performing reverse engineering. A significant part of the work involves debugging issues on local and remote devices using tools like Wireshark.
Our software runs on a wide range of hardware and operating systems. We build efficient, portable solutions using modern C++ (C++20/23), along with CMake, Conan, and Git.
Each integration typically involves working across multiple protocols and includes:
