• Experience with RESTful APIs, offline storage, maps APIs, and performance tuning enables you to build apps that are both scalable and reliable.

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be:

• Evolving our infrastructure platform building self-service components that will be used by all the engineering team and by millions of users around the world.
• Working closely with our Product and Infrastructure teams to architecture and develop world-class infrastructure components.
• Designing and implementing tooling to improve the availability, scalability, observability and latency of our services, which are used by internal customers to deploy and operate their services.

• Defining SLIs, SLOs and SLAs as part of the services' lifecycle.
• Sharing an on-call schedule for the platform services you own.

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Backend Developer (Ruby) to join our growing Engine team. The Engine team develops and maintains most things related to Workato Recipe runtime. Everything related to recipe execution: DSL, pulling events, processing webhooks, executing jobs. There are various aspects to it: performance, scaling, storage, durability, atomicity, concurrency guarantees, data protection, and encryption. 

 In this role, you will also be responsible to:

• Build/extend/troubleshot/fix complex heterogeneous GOlang and Ruby applications, as well as small self-contained GOlang microservices.

• Improve execution engine of custom third-party code (Ruby DSL, isolation, performance, new features).

About The Role 💻 

We are looking for a Staff AI Engineer who thrives at the intersection of rapid experimentation and agile product development. In this role, you will be the bridge between the latest AI developments and tangible product impact. You aren't just following a roadmap; you are helping define it by proving what is possible with the latest frontier models and architectures. You will be responsible for the "quality loop": moving from a promising proof-of-concept to a highly reliable, optimized, and validated product.

What You’ll Be Doing 🚀

As a Staff AI engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Product-Centric Development: Designing and executing experiments to improve GenAI capabilities. This isn't just about "accuracy" in a vacuum—it's about optimizing for user value, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Evaluation Systems: Building the "Golden Path" for quality. You will design and implement robust, multi-dimensional evaluation suites (e.g., using "LLM-as-a-judge," semantic checks, and unit tests) to ensure our features are production-ready and hallucination-resistant.
• Advanced RAG & Reasoning Optimization: Moving beyond "naive RAG." You will implement and tune advanced retrieval strategies (e.g., hybrid search, reranking, agentic retrieval) and optimize complex reasoning loops (e.g., CoT, ReAct) to make our current and future agents smarter and more reliable.
• Production-Grade Model Tuning: Leading the strategy for when, and if, to move beyond simple prompting. You will oversee supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (LoRA) workflows to adapt models to our specific product domains.
• Performance & Cost Engineering: Balancing the "Quality-Cost-Latency" triangle. You will find ways to maintain high-quality outputs while optimizing token usage and reducing inference latency.

Location 🌍 

The role is based in our tech hub in Madrid, Spain, but we are remote-friendly and open to the CET timezone +/- 2 hours.

What You’ll Need 👀

• Applied MLE Background: You have a proven track record of shipping Machine Learning functionality in a product-focused environment. You prefer "what works in practice" over "what works in theory."
• Bleeding-Edge Awareness: You are a "first adopter" of new AI technologies. You are intimately familiar with the trade-offs between frontier models and know how to swap or hybridize them for maximum impact.
• Experimental & Analytical Mindset: You understand the importance of controlled experiments. You know how to design a benchmark, create a "Gold Dataset," and use data to prove that a new prompt or model is an actual improvement.
• Practical LLM Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience with LLM orchestration, vector databases, and evaluation frameworks.
• Technical Stack Mastery: Expert-level Python and experience writing production-grade code.
• Product Mindset: You think about the user. You can identify when a model’s behavior might be technically correct but results in a poor user experience, and you know how to iterate to improve it.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in ML or Software Engineering roles, with at least 2+ years of hands-on experience building and scaling GenAI/LLM-powered features.
• Self-starter, able to take ownership and initiative, with high energy and stamina
• Decisive and action-oriented, able to make rapid decisions even when they are short of information
• Highly motivated, independent and deeply passionate about sustainability and impact
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills (minimum C1 level-proficient user)

• Cloud AI Ecosystem: Familiarity with managed GenAI platforms and services such as OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, or GCP Vertex AI.

As a Staff Solutions Architect at Upbound, you own the technical success of our customers. You are the primary driver of customer outcomes, from initial implementation through production adoption, ensuring customers achieve real business value with Crossplane and the Upbound platform. This is a deeply technical, hands-on role embedded in the post-sales motion, working closely with customers to deliver working solutions, not just guidance.

In this role, you will Own: 

Customer Technical Outcomes

• Drive end-to-end technical success for a portfolio of enterprise customers, from post-sales handoff through production adoption.
• Own the implementation of known Upbound use cases — control plane architectures, Upbound/Crossplane configurations, GitOps integration, platform engineering patterns — and ensure customers reach their target state.
• Define and track technical milestones that map to customer business objectives and contract value.
• Act as the primary technical escalation point when customers face blockers, coordinating engineering and product resources to resolve them.

Implementation & Architecture

• Lead technical discovery to deeply understand customer environments, platform requirements, and target architecture.
• Design and deliver Crossplane-based control plane architectures tailored to customer infrastructure and organizational context.
• Build and maintain reference platforms and implementation accelerators that codify Upbound best practices and reduce time-to-value for common use cases.
• Contribute Statements of Work that accurately scope implementation engagements.
• Write code, fix bugs, and build scoped features within Upbound products, provider ecosystem, and Crossplane core where needed to unblock customers.

Technical Voice of the Customer

• Represent customer technical needs internally to influence product roadmap and prioritization.
• Partner with pre-sales SEs to ensure smooth, informed handoffs with full context on customer environment and expectations.
• Identify expansion opportunities as customer technical maturity grows and new Upbound capabilities become relevant.

You are a good fit if you have: 

• Hands-on Kubernetes expertise — operators, controllers, or add-ons; production deployment and management experience.
• Platform engineering or SRE background, with direct experience building or operating an Internal Developer Platform (IDP).
• Deep familiarity with cloud-native tooling: CNCF ecosystem, IaC (Terraform/Pulumi), GitOps (Flux/ArgoCD), CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience across at least two major cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) at production scale.
• Strong programming skills; Go is strongly preferred.
• Proven track record of leading customers through complex technical implementations to successful, measurable outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills — comfortable presenting architecture and trade-offs to both engineering teams and executive stakeholders.
• Able to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously in a fast-moving startup environment.

It is a plus if: 

• Crossplane power user — contributions to core or the provider ecosystem are very appreciated [for many reasons]
• Active Kubernetes community involvement: contributions, conference talks, technical writing, or open source maintainership.
• CKA or CKAD certification.
• Prior startup, familiarity with coding agents and distributed team experience.
