ABOUT THE JOB

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be a player-coach leading a high-caliber engineering team building advanced platforms. Depending on your area of ownership, you may lead one or more teams across domains including Control Plane (edge/cloud compute), Dev/Sec Ops, Data Platform & Governance, High Scale Event Processing (hundreds of billions of events per day), Mobile Platforms, SRE & Operations, or Radar Platform (our core web/cloud customer experience). ABOUT YOU

Required:

At RADAR, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The expected base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000. About the Team:

The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems and platforms in support of national security. We have a particular focus on airborne/surface/space-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. We work on full system prototypes, experiment campaigns, and next generation technology components. Specific technical areas include RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, tracking/fusion, autonomous systems, as well as real-time embedded processor implementation.

The Systems Autonomy, Analysis, and Modeling (SAAM) Group within the Sensors Division uses modeling and simulation (M&S) to analyze system capabilities, develop enabling algorithms, and take these integrated systems through test. We focus on the capabilities and limitations of ground, air, surface, and space sensing and counter-sensing platforms and the resource management of these assets to assure the survivability of US air and space assets. SAAM also leverages the emerging use of autonomy and Artificial Intelligence in uncrewed systems and techniques to collect, fuse, and understand sensor data across full systems of systems to assure mission success. SAAM is developing software and hardware tools and datasets to support these analyses, including algorithms, processing chains, and scenarios to inform and deploy onto both prototype demonstration systems & operational systems. Full Lifecycle Project Ownership:

WORK ENVIROMENT & CONDITIONS

About the Role

About the Role

We’re looking for an Avionics Architecture Lead Engineer to own the end-to-end avionics system design for our autonomous aircraft. You will define the architecture, manage key avionics subcontractors, and ensure the system meets FAA certification requirements.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for a self-starter who can zoom from high-level architecture down into ICD details, test plans, and flight-test findings.

What You’ll Do

• Own the avionics architecture.
  • Define the end-to-end avionics system, including mission computers, navigation, communications, surveillance, and payload interfaces.
    Select network topologies (ARINC 664/AFDX, TSN Ethernet, ARINC 429, CAN, etc.) and define redundancy, partitioning, and data flows.
  • Lead supplier & subcontractor integration.
• Serve as primary technical point of contact for avionics vendors and integrators.
  • Drive SOWs, technical requirements, ICDs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Review vendor designs, safety artifacts, and test results; hold them accountable to cost/schedule/technical performance.
• Ensure FAA airworthiness compliance.

• Track record of leading and managing subcontractors or vendors—able to push back technically and keep them aligned to mission and schedule.
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable presenting architecture and certification status to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• U.S. Person, eligible to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
