Our Senior Software Engineers take end-to-end ownership of designing, building, and delivering data products for our clients. You will actively participate in all aspects of this process.

This is an operations-focused role, responsible for ensuring the reliability, correctness, and availability of Optiver’s most critical data pipelines and platforms, many of which directly support trading and research workflows. In practice, this role combines deep technical ownership with operational responsibility. Data SREs work closely with data engineers, platform teams, and trading-facing stakeholders to ensure production data systems meet strict reliability, freshness, and correctness expectations. Beyond keeping systems running, they help evolve how we operate data platforms at scale by improving automation, observability, and operational standards across the firm. The systems supported by Data SREs include large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines, data quality and freshness monitoring, and globally operated platforms supported by follow-the-sun operational models. These systems are often on the critical path for trading and research, where data delays or inaccuracies can have immediate business impact.

What you'll do:

• Configure, launch, and maintain robust data pipelines (ETL/ELT) for ingesting and transforming datasets critical to research and trading
• Own the end-to-end reliability of critical production data pipelines, from ingestion through downstream consumption
• Ensure data quality and consistency through validation, monitoring, and robust engineering practices
• Act as the first point of contact for data incidents, investigating failures, data quality issues, and pipeline regressions, and driving them through to resolution
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews, with a focus on preventing recurrence

• Strong proficiency in Python, with experience using libraries like Pandas, Arrow, and Spark
• Solid understanding of data modeling, normalization, and API development in support of large-scale analytical or trading systems
• Experience working with lakehouse architectures (e.g., Delta Lake, Databricks, AWS) to manage large-scale, high-quality analytical datasets is preferred

Role Overview

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to help design and implement new features across multiple backend applications. As a presence and an individual contributor on a small team, you will play a key role in both enhancing a Ruby on Rails backend at the heart of the business and building out a new, more scalable service-driven architecture.

What you'll be doing:

The regional Senior Sales Engineer in China will join our rapidly growing sales organization. Being a WEKA Sales Engineer will require you to partner with customers, understanding their needs and requirements, helping them to leverage the value and performance that WEKA can provide to their business and applications.

          Responsibilities:

• Meet with customers and partners to educate them on the technical aspects of WEKA
• Assist with evaluations and system configurations
• Build and deliver technical product and architecture presentations and demos
• Become the advocate for WEKA customers and bring feedback back to the R&D and product management organizations
• Become a technical adviser to your customers and periodically review their status and inform on possible improvements
• Become an SME on WEKA and its ecosystem
• Contribute or lead responses to RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs
• Help in the creation and maintenance of Q&A’s, best practices, and other technical documentation
• This is a Hands-on position

          Requirements:

• Familiar with high performance IO workloads 
• Extensive filesystems system background - Experience with NFS, SMB and distributed parallel file systems
• Strong Linux OS knowledge
• Data Center networking understanding
• Experience with performance demonstrations and analysis
• Prior experience in working at a start-up company - an advantage
• Experience with running workloads in cloud hypervisors such as AWS, Azure, OCI or GCP
• Knowledge and experience in configuring and using Kubernetes
• Scripting abilities - an advantage
• Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills

• Linux System Administration: Install, configure, patch, and maintain RHEL/Fedora servers.
• Performance & Low‑Latency Tuning: Conduct network, system, and kernel tuning for ultra‑low‑latency workloads; develop benchmarks and monitoring dashboards.
• Scripting & Automation: Write robust Bash, Python, and Perl scripts for routine tasks, diagnostics, and custom tooling.
• Configuration Management: Build and maintain Ansible playbooks or Salt states (Salt preferred); enforce idempotent configurations across hundreds of nodes.
• Virtualisation & Cloud: Deploy and manage Proxmox clusters; create/maintain VMs and containers; integrate with AWS services where applicable.
• Network Engineering: Implement and troubleshoot advanced networking (VLANs, bonding, NIC teaming, SR‑IOV, TCP/UDP tuning, QoS). Cisco networking and Fortinet experience is a plus.
• Storage Engineering: Manage and troubleshoot SAN and NAS storage solutions and block‑level storage using iSCSI. Perform LUN masking, multipathing, and performance tuning for Linux hosts. HPE SAN experience a plus.
• Incident Response: Provide timely response to production incidents; some after‑hours/weekend work is required.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce clear runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation; mentor junior engineers.
• Security & Compliance: Apply hardening guidelines, manage SELinux where required, and support audit requirements.

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5–10 years of professional Linux engineering experience (RHEL/Fedora).
• Strong problem‑solving skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a proactive attitude toward automation and improvement.
• Strong networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls).
• System, kernel, and network performance tuning (including low‑latency).
• Hands‑on experience with Proxmox (preferred) or comparable platforms (KVM, VMware).
• Advanced Bash, Python, and Perl scripting.
• Proven experience with Ansible or Salt (Salt preferred).
• Experience with container technologies (Docker, LXC/LXD).
• Familiarity with monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, LibreNMS).
• Knowledge of security frameworks (CIS, NIST).
• Experience with Windows networking.
• Working knowledge of AWS services (EC2, VPC, S3) is nice to have.
• Prior work in high‑frequency trading and financial services is nice to have
• Fluency in English. Mandarin and Cantonese fluency are nice to have
