As a Compensation Manager you will serve as a strategic leader and subject matter expert responsible for developing, optimizing, and leading compensation programs. You will evolve our compensation frameworks to attract, retain, and motivate top talent in alignment with our business goals and compensation philosophy. As a trusted business partner to the People Team and senior leadership, you will drive compensation strategy, lead complex projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver data-driven insights to shape equitable, competitive pay practices.

What you’ll do

• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of compensation strategies aligned with business objectives and market dynamics.
• Partner with HR, Finance, and business leaders to advise on salary decisions, job leveling, and promotions.
• Drive the development and execution of Career Ladder frameworks to support internal mobility, employee development, and engagement.
• Oversee job architecture including job evaluation, leveling, and grade assignments.
• Manage the annual compensation planning cycle including merit, promotion, and adjustment recommendations; Provide guidance to leaders on budget allocation and pay-for-performance alignment.
• Conduct market research and ensure pay is competitive and aligned with internal equity.
• Monitor compensation trends and recommend changes to maintain competitive market positioning and internal equity.
• Maintain deep understanding of relevant laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, minimum wage, pay transparency), ensuring all compensation practices remain compliant.
• Conduct compensation-related audits, internal reviews, and support pay equity and transparency initiatives.
• Maintain compensation-related policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and fairness across the organization.
• Partner with HRIS and IT to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance of compensation data and systems.
• Analyze compensation data and create clear reports for leadership.
• Manage survey participation and external vendor relationships.
• Lead compensation-related projects, including system enhancements, career frameworks, and organizational design support.

Location & Travel Expectations:

• This role will be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC. 
• This role requires 4 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the GC/MS Group Lead, the candidate will support the Chemistry and Regulatory Testing and regulatory submission for JUUL Labs. The GC/MS Scientist is a hands-on, laboratory-based role in Durham, NC that will be responsible in helping to test products for regulatory submissions at Juul Labs. The scientist is highly motivated, nimble at navigating complex challenges, a skilled multitasker, is adaptable and works effectively in a fast-paced environment and works collaboratively with the teams at Juul Labs.

• Perform routine and non-routine analysis on nicotine containing products by GC/MS or GC/MS/MS.
• Support method development and validation of test methods using GC/MS or GC/MS/MS.
• Perform routine maintenance on analytical instrumentation.
• Review and report data generated by GC/MS or GC/MS/MS.
• Write and review scientific documents in a timely manner. (SOPs, VOPs, and Work Instructions).
• Manage the regulatory testing data and documents systematically in a highly organized fashion.

A successful GC/MS Scientist will be able to successfully complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. They need to be readily adaptable to change while following established standard operating procedures.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5 years of experience with chromatography-mass spectrometry-based techniques.
• Proficiency with chromatography and mass spectrometry data analysis software such as MassHunter.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise written documents.
• Ability to communicate issues in a succinct and logical manner.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• High motivation and flexibility.
• Experience in a regulated laboratory environment such as ISO 17025 is preferred but not required.

ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Deputy Project Director in the Capital Punishment Project of the ACLU’s National office in Washington, DC; San Francisco, CA; Durham, NC or New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month. 

The Capital Punishment Project, part of the ACLU’s Center for Justice, challenges the unfairness and arbitrariness of capital punishment while working toward the ultimate goal of abolishing the death penalty. The Project engages in public advocacy and strategic litigation, including the direct representation of capital defendants, challenges to systemic problems in the administration of capital punishment, and amicus briefing.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Reporting to the Project Director, the Deputy Project Director will be responsible for assisting the Project Director in: setting and leading the Project’s strategy; supervising staff; overseeing litigation; recruiting diverse and excellent candidates; onboarding and mentoring staff; managing internship and fellowship programs; liaising with other departments, including National Policy and Advocacy Department (NPAD) and Communications; and other management and administrative duties as directed.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

Strategy and Management 

• Readiness to align with management including, collaborating with and sharing ownership of decisions made by the Project Director, Center Director, and Senior Staff
• Assist Project Director with development and implementation of annual strategic plan, including:
  • Setting short- and long-term goals and reviewing substantive filings and internal communications to ensure alignment with strategic priorities
  • Collaboration with NPAD and the Communications Department
  • Collaboration with state affiliates and other partners

Supervision and Staffing 

• Directly supervise attorneys, legal fellows and support staff, including monthly check-ins and approval of expense reports and time off
• Assist Project Director in:
  • Supporting staff retention, feedback, and professional development efforts for all project staff
  • Making staffing decisions by ensuring balance of work across project staff, including opportunities for writing, discovery, witness examinations, arguments, and other professional growth
• With a focus on developing and maintaining an excellent and diverse staff, undertake the following responsibilities: 
  • Managing processes for hiring and onboarding new staff, fellows, and interns, which includes recruiting excellent candidates and furthering our board-mandated goal to increase the percentage of staff with disabilities and significant disabilities and working in furtherance of our other announced diversity hiring initiatives
  • Lead sustained efforts to create and nurture pools of diverse candidates from which to recruit 

Administration 

• Assume responsibility for ongoing administrative functions such as maintenance of the case docket and legal database, completion of the time survey, recruitment of pro bono firms, ensuring co-counseling agreements are in place, among other work, as directed
• Assist the Project Director with expense tracking and budgeting as directed 

Litigation and Advocacy 

• Assist Project Director with reviewing substantive filings
• Coordinate the Project’s work in the United States Supreme Court: review requests for amicus briefs and representation, write and edit as appropriate briefs in selected cases in connection with National Legal Director, and recruit amici or cooperating counsel where appropriate
• Supervise litigation teams
• Engage in litigation in federal and state court, including drafting pleadings, briefs, and affidavits; conducting discovery and motion practice; handling hearings and trials; and arguing appeals in both federal and state courts
• In consultation with Project Director and the ACLU Communications Department, represent CPP / ACLU in public-facing meetings / speaking events / media opportunities that cut across multiple issues / cases

The Role

Blackman & Sloop is excited to welcome a new industry to our client base! As we expand into the auto dealership space, we are seeking a new Tax Manager to join our team. This role will have a strong emphasis on supporting our dealership clients, while also providing opportunities to work across a variety of other areas.

As a Tax Manager, you will lead and manage all phases of business client tax advisory and compliance engagements. You will manage clients independently and carry out your outstanding project management, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills. You will perform technical reviews of business returns, participate in training and supervision of staff, conduct tax research, and advise on tax matters. Key Responsibilities

• Perform initial and/or final review of manager, tax senior, tax staff and intern work products.
• Act as primary client point of contact for the firm.
• Identify opportunities for value added services for clients by staying abreast of their business needs.
• Communicate staffing and workload issues to Resource Planning.
• Review and confirm assignment objectives, scope, and work plan with client.
• Resolve work product issues using firm resources.
• Contribute to the development and management of comprehensive strategies to identify and meet all client needs.
• Identify and research technical issues to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
• Coach and mentor staff to assist with enhancing their skills and further develop their career.
• Identify and pursue new clients and identify any additional needs to cross sell other firm products and services to existing clients.
• Support the partner team in the development and planning of strategy, objectives, and budgets.
• Prepare and/or review monthly client bills.
• Anticipate, identify, and resolve complex tax-technical issues.
• Effectively manage expectations, internal and external, concerning changes in project deliverables and/or deadlines.
• Support business development efforts by nurturing existing relationships and helping to identify new client opportunities

Required Qualifications

• CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA)
• 7+ years of business tax prep & review experience
• Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Self-motivator with the ability to multi-task and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
• A strong desire toward career advancement and goal toward future firm ownership
• Excellent work ethic and a sense of humor are a must!
• Ability or interest in business development and expanding client relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

This Senior Manager position has the primary responsibility of oversight over the Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting engagement work plans. As a leader of the firm, the Senior Manager will demonstrate excellent project management skills, client service, and positive coaching to the team members in developing technical and professional competency. 

Core Responsibilities: 

• In depth understanding of big picture complex Accounting Advisory topics and how they relate to each other. Ability to oversee progress of entire engagement in the preparation of financial statements and consolidation of trial balances. 
• Perform detailed review of work product completed, ensure all complex technical items have been identified and addressed, assess the accuracy of more complex financial statement areas such as SOCF, Equity, and EPS and identify disclosures which are inaccurate/incomplete. 
• Prepare and review complex technical accounting memos and identify if the appropriate guidance has been used. 
• Oversee and coach Managers to ensure knowledge sharing with the staff and seniors to develop more in-depth knowledge of preparation and review of financial statements and consolidation of trial balances. 
• In depth understanding of complex Accounting Advisory topic and developing subject matter expertise to allow for coaching of Managers.  
• Identify more complex scope problems that may arise within the engagement, as well as opportunities for ancillary service offerings. Bring them to the attention of the engagement director. 
• Lead complex update client meetings and/or calls independently in accordance with the project plan. With the assistance of the Engagement Managing Director and/or Partner, facilitate calls with the SEC, client auditors, client legal counsel, etc. as deemed necessary to accomplish project goals.  
• Responsible for understanding engagement economics, leveraging the team appropriately, monitoring margin, scheduling, invoicing, etc.  
• Leadership responsibilities include building in person connections with the team, peers and senior leaders in the Firm.   
• Participate in the performance process to provide feedback for team members. Identifying additional training or parts of engagements that are beneficial for team members education. Reaching out to Human Resources when potential issues arise.  
• Continue coaching the team to share knowledge in connection with the CPE committee to develop team members for the next level. 
• Support Firm initiatives and development opportunities.  
• Work to build relationships and promote collaboration in a hybrid environment. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

• Strong working knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.  
• Being a strong champion for and thrives in an environment of changing priorities.  
• Interpersonal skills to interact in a team environment and foster client relationships.

The Senior Associate position has the primary responsibility of oversight over the Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting engagement work plans. Serving as a current and future leader of the firm, the Senior Associate demonstrates the attributes of excellent client service and assists team members in developing technical and professional competency. 

Core Responsibilities:  

• Understand complex Accounting Advisory topics, including the corresponding impact to the financial statements and related disclosures. Execute a comprehensive self-review and begin articulating key concepts to staff and begin to review completed work product. 
• Research basic technical topics while identifying relevant guidance and corresponding SEC rules and regulations. 
• Apply guidance to basic technical topic at hand within a technical accounting position paper with detailed oversite and directions from Manager.   
• Apply guidance to basic technical topics and understand corresponding financial statement impact through performing basic level research. 
• Identify technical accounting issues for broader discussion and hold high level conversations with Managers about related accounting considerations. 
• Review and provide comments on all staff work as it relates the preparation of financial statements and consolidation of trial balances. 
• Delegate and provide a detailed review of staff work, ensure technical accuracy of overall financial statements, and identify disclosures which are inaccurate/incomplete. Responsible for understanding more complex areas such as SOCF, Equity, and EPS. 
• Build in person connections with peers and managers. 
• Engage with the client for requests and leading client calls.  
• Support Firm initiatives and development opportunities.
