MongoDB Technical Services Engineers use their exceptional problem solving and customer service skills, along with their deep technical experience, to advise customers and to solve their complex MongoDB problems. Technical Service Engineers are experts in the entire MongoDB ecosystem - database server, drivers, cloud and infrastructure. This also includes services such as Atlas (database as a service), or Cloud Manager (which helps customers with automation, backup and monitoring of their MongoDB systems). Our engineers combine their MongoDB expertise with passion, initiative, teamwork and a great sense of humor to achieve exceptional results for our customers.
The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) is a US government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. Our FedRAMP program requires that anyone who is accessing customer data or metadata inside the Authorization Boundary be a US Citizen on US Soil. In order for us to triage and assign cases, it is necessary to be able to identify available resources at any given time. For this reason the FedRamp team is composed of three separate shifts: first shift, second shift, and third shift. This posting is for Third Shift, in which your working hours would be 8pm-5am PST. There is a desired commitment to this shift though applicants must have the flexibility to work a more typical schedule (12pm-9pm PST) during their ramping period (between 6 to 9 months) before transitioning to Third shift.
Weekend Shift: We are looking to speak to candidates who are interested in working out of our West Coast offices under our flexible or remote working models, Monday to Friday for the first 6-9 months depending on ramping speed. Once considered ramped, they will transition to a permanent Wednesday to Sunday work week to provide weekend coverage alongside other peers. Saturdays and Sundays are considered fully online workdays and not an on-call shift. Due to the 24/7 nature of our support organization, certain events throughout the year will require volunteering for coverage outside one's normal work days or work hours (i.e. regional offsites, regional holidays, etc). These are typically announced weeks in advance with a sign-up system that considers equitability.
MongoDB is on a mission to change the way people think about databases. Along the way, our customers encounter questions and issues about how our approach to databases works for their use case. In Technical Services, it's our job to help these people.
You'll be working alongside our largest customers, solving their complex issues - resolving questions on architecture, performance, recovery, security, and everything in between. You'll be an expert resource on standard methodologies in running MongoDB at scale, whatever that scale may be. You'll be an advocate for customers' needs - working with our product management and development teams on their behalf. And you'll contribute to internal projects, including software development of support tools for performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics. In addition, you will also be responsible for mentoring and ramping new team members and taking initiatives in building knowledge of new product lines within the MongoDB ecosystem.
We consider all candidates with an eye for those who are self taught, insatiably curious, and multi-faceted.
It’s important for candidates to check off these boxes:
MongoDB is built for change, empowering our customers and our people to innovate at the speed of the market. We have redefined the database for the AI era, enabling innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries with software. MongoDB’s unified database platform—the most widely available, globally distributed database on the market—helps organizations modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our cloud-native platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
With offices worldwide and nearly 60,000 customers—including 75% of the Fortune 100 and AI-native startups—relying on MongoDB for their most important applications, we’re powering the next era of software.
Our compass at MongoDB is our Leadership Commitment, guiding how and why we make decisions, show up for each other, and win. It’s what makes us MongoDB.
To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone. From employee affinity groups, to fertility assistance and a generous parental leave policy, we value our employees’ wellbeing and want to support them along every step of their professional and personal journeys. Learn more about what it’s like to work at MongoDB, and help us make an impact on the world!
MongoDB is committed to providing any necessary accommodations for individuals with disabilities within our application and interview process. To request an accommodation due to a disability, please inform your recruiter.
MongoDB, Inc. provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type and makes all hiring decisions without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

Success is measured by presence and follow-through rather than slide decks. You will serve as the company’s voice in the room, translating customer friction points into actionable technical roadmaps while maintaining a persistent pulse on how capabilities are utilized in the field. We value proactive problem-solvers who can mitigate execution risks independently and ensure that mission-critical systems land effectively within the formation.

Notice to applicants:
We have seen a rise in recruitment scams. Please note that outreach from Khan Academy recruiters will only come from the @khanacademy.org domain. Our team does not use Gmail or other personal accounts for contacting potential candidates. Khan Academy will never solicit money, equipment fees, or sensitive financial information at any stage of the hiring process. We also do not work with external recruiting agencies, so outreach from headhunters presenting opportunities on behalf of Khan Academy is illegitimate. Please always check the email domain and cross-reference the position with the official Khan Academy Careers page to confirm an opening is valid.
ABOUT KHAN ACADEMY
Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission to deliver a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. Our proven learning platform offers free, high-quality supplemental learning content and practice that cover Pre-K - 12th grade and early college core academic subjects, focusing on math and science. We have over 181 million registered learners globally and are committed to improving learning outcomes for students worldwide, focusing on learners in historically under-resourced communities.
Khan Academy Kids is a free and fun learning program for children ages two to eight. Kodi Bear and a cast of animated characters lead children on a personalized education journey filled with fun, standards-aligned activities in early literacy, math, executive functioning, and social-emotional skills. Built by a small but mighty team, Khan Academy Kids is used by millions of children in homes and classrooms around the world.
OUR COMMUNITY
Our students, teachers, and parents come from all walks of life, and so do we. Our team includes people from academia, traditional/non-traditional education, big tech companies, and tiny startups. We hire great people from diverse backgrounds and experiences because it makes our company stronger. We value diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as necessary to achieve our mission and impact the communities we serve. We know that transforming education starts in-house with learning about ourselves and our colleagues. We strive to be world-class in investing in our people and commit to developing you as a professional.
THE ROLE
The Senior Technical Support Specialist will serve as the primary owner of the Khan Academy Kids support function — the trusted first point of contact for our users and a strategic partner to our Product, Engineering, and Partnerships teams. This is a build role: you'll own the end-to-end support experience for Khan Kids — designing the systems and processes that make it run, while staying in the work yourself across everything from individual parent inquiries to district-level app deployments and product release readiness.
This role supports all of Khan Kids' audiences. You'll context-switch between a parent troubleshooting an app issue and a district IT admin navigating a Clever integration, and you'll bring the same care, technical fluency, and follow-through to both. You'll also serve as the internal voice of our users, surfacing trends and insights that directly inform how we build and improve our product.
This is a fully remote position open to candidates based in the US or Canada. Proximity to our San Mateo, CA office is a plus, as the Khan Kids Product and Engineering team is based there.
The approximate time allocations below reflect a typical distribution, but will shift seasonally based on user needs. For example, during back-to-school season, district and partner support will naturally take a larger share of focus.
WHAT YOU BRING
PERKS AND BENEFITS
We may be a non-profit, but we reward our talented team extremely well! We offer:
At Khan Academy we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices, the well-being of our employees, and our Khan community. This belief is why we have built out a robust Total Rewards package that includes competitive base salaries, and extensive benefits and perks to support physical, mental, and financial well-being. The compensation band for this role is $96,800 - $108,900 USD annually for candidates based in the United States and $130,807 - $147,158 CAD annually for candidates based in Canada.
The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data.
Live & breathe learners
We deeply understand and empathize with our users. We leverage user insights, research, and experience to build content, products, services, and experiences that our users trust and love. Our success is defined by the success of our learners and educators.
Take a stand
As a company, we have conviction in our aspirational point of view of how education will evolve. The work we do is in service to moving towards that point of view. However, we also listen, learn and flex in the face of new data, and commit to evolving this point of view as the industry and our users evolve.
Embrace diverse perspectives
We are a diverse community. We seek out and embrace a diversity of voices, perspectives and life experiences leading to stronger, more inclusive teams and better outcomes. As individuals, we are committed to bringing up tough topics and leaning into different points of view with curiosity. We actively listen, learn and collaborate to gain a shared understanding. When a decision is made, we commit to moving forward as a united team.
Work responsibly and sustainably
We understand that achieving our audacious mission is a marathon, so we set realistic timelines and we focus on delivery that also links to the bigger picture. As a non-profit, we are supported by the generosity of donors as well as strategic partners, and understand our responsibility to our finite resources. We spend every dollar as though it were our own. We are responsible for the impact we have on the world and to each other. We ensure our team and company stay healthy and financially sustainable.
Bring out the joy
We are committed to making learning a joyful process. This informs what we build for our users and the culture we co-create with our teammates, partners and donors.
Cultivate learning mindset
We believe in the power of growth for learners and for ourselves. We constantly learn and teach to improve our offerings, ourselves, and our organization. We learn from our mistakes and aren’t afraid to fail. We don't let past failures or successes stop us from taking future bold action and achieving our goals.
Deliver wow
We insist on high standards and deliver delightful, effective end-to-end experiences that our users can rely on. We choose to focus on fewer things — each of which aligns to our ambitious vision — so we can deliver high-quality experiences that accelerate positive measurable learning with our strategic partners.
We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or Veteran status.
We value diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage candidates from historically underrepresented groups to apply.
