POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Service Supervisor and with little or no supervision, the Tech 1 will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient, and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary and without rework. The Tech 1 is required to complete work within the time frame and standards established by HPC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Trouble shoots mechanical problems in Caterpillar, allied products, and Ag & Turf and industrial products serviced by the service department.
2. Makes warranty recommendations and prepares reports when performing warranty service jobs.
3. Performs minor welding, fabrication, plumbing, and D.C. electric repairs.
4. Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
5. Reconditions or overhauls major components to manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Recommends actions to correct failures or problems.
7. Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
8. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.
9. Handles Equipment Condition Reporting.
10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.
3. Must have PC skills.
4. Must be forklift certified or able to be certified within 60 days.
5. Must own hand tools that are suitable to perform the work noted above.
6. At least 5 years of experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Walking: Moves about on foot, often through uneven terrain.
2. Hands/arms: Operates equipment and hand and power tools.
3. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.

POSITION SUMMARY:   With minimal supervision provides a comprehensive learning and development program for the technical employee that enhances knowledge, skills, and productivity. Develops and designs, organizes and implements and conducts training programs. Champions a continuous learning environment. This role is based in San Diego California, with extensive travel required to Hawaii to conduct technical, operation and maintenance training for customers and technicians, as directed by management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Conduct technical training to include but not limited to applied electrical, engines/powertrain, hydraulics and applied failure analysis,
2. Assists with creating a skills database and tracking training progress.
3. Help coordinate TCDP (Technician Career Development Plan).
4. Helps coordinate skills inventories for employees to identify training gaps (TCDP and HTCP).
5. Designs curricula, class materials and facilitate classes according to the skills inventory results and requests by management.
6. Works with key company personnel in developing class schedules.
7. Attends necessary classes to become proficient within his/her learning plan.
8. Keeps informed with new products and conducts NPI courses.
9. Coordinates alternative training delivery methods such as computer-based training programs, web deliverable training programs and distance learning programs for companywide learning programs.
10. Provides customer training as well as internal training.
11. Conduct safety training as required such as lock out tag out.
12. Perform any job that may be assigned as necessary to meet the company, department or individual goals and objectives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have associate’s degree (AA/AS) or equivalent.
2. Must have minimum 5 years’ technical training experience.
3. Must obtain Caterpillar CIAP certification (Company Supported Program) within two years of employment.
4. Must have proven written and oral communication skills.
5. Must have proven presentation skills with the ability to answer questions of Management, staff, employees or customers.
6. Must have strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
7. Must be flexible and have a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
8. Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team handling multiple projects and meet demanding deadlines.
9. Must be available for frequent travel to support regional training initiatives.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Branch Manager, with little or no supervision, the Tech 2 shall perform highly skilled work in the repairing, reconditioning, testing, and adjusting of all equipment sold by Hawthorne.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Removes, installs, reconditions, and repairs engines. Makes necessary adjustments on the engines and to the components in the various systems, such as water pumps, fuel pumps, turbochargers, generators, compressors, coolers, carburetors, and cylinder heads.
2. Performs diagnostic tests on engines for lack of power, inability and hard to start, misfiring, overheating, excessive oil consumption, and basic tests on charging system.
3. Removes, installs, and makes repairs and necessary adjustments on the various power train components such as torque converters, torque dividers, direct drive transmissions, power shift transmissions, oil and dry clutches, steering clutches, and brakes, final drives, differentials, transfer cases, gear boxes, and undercarriages.
4. Performs diagnostic tests on power train components for overheating, operational pressure checks, and slippage.
5. Removes, installs, reconditions, repairs, and makes necessary adjustments on the various hydraulic controls and components such as cylinders, pumps, valves, and hydraulic attachments.

2. Performs all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.
3. Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on brake adjustments, leak repairs, removal and installation of radiators and thermostats and replacing hoses, fan belts, alternators, regulators, and batteries.
4. Makes any necessary adjustments on engines as well as to the components in the various systems.

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Service Communicator ensures effective communication, profitability and reputation of Main, CRC, Hydraulic, Field & Weld service shops by providing timely, accurate, and customer-approved estimates, proformas, & invoices for internal, revenue and warranty repair work. The Communicator will document estimates and the necessary repair work according to established industry standards and CAT regulations. The Communicator will have a working knowledge of the equipment industry, an aptitude and interest in equipment repair, strong administrative, organizational and computer skills as well as exceptional interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provides effective and timely communication to both internal and external customers.
2. Provides customers with repair updates in a manner to meet customer expectations and loyalty.
3. Has an in-depth knowledge of operational guidelines regarding parts, labor and miscellaneous charges for revenue, internal and warranty repairs.
4. Provides and updates accurate quotes to both internal and external customers throughout the repair process.
5. Ensures approval is given for all parts, labor and miscellaneous charges by the customer during the repair process.
6. Accurately opens work orders including all related codes for internal and external work orders.
7. Provides standard hours for every segment that a technician is assigned.
8. Participates in daily shop walks, meeting with lead(s)/supervisors/managers to ensure communication flow.
9. Communicates with the credit department to ensure payment
10. Ensures service reports matches repairs completed before billing.
11. Accurately prepares and provides customers a proforma/invoice in a timely manner.
12. Maintains assigned WIP in a manner to align with department Metrics (Last Date of Labor).

14. If applicable schedule jobs to techs as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Service Manager, with little or no supervision, the Tech 3 shall perform highly skilled work in the repairing, reconditioning, testing, and adjusting of all equipment sold by Hawthorne.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Remove, install, recondition, and repair engines. As well as make necessary adjustments on the engines and to the components in the various systems, such as water pumps, fuel pumps, turbochargers, generators, compressors, coolers, carburetors, and cylinder heads.
2. Perform diagnostic tests on engines for lack of power, inability and hard to start, misfiring, overheating, excessive oil consumption, and basic tests on charging system.
3. Remove, install, and make repairs and necessary adjustments on the various power train components such as torque converters, torque dividers, direct drive transmissions, power shift transmissions, oil and dry clutches, steering clutches, and brakes, final drives, differentials, transfer cases, gear boxes, and undercarriages.
4. Perform diagnostic tests on power train components for overheating, operational pressure checks, and slippage.
5. Remove, install, recondition, repair, and make necessary adjustments on the various hydraulic controls and components such as cylinders, pumps, valves, and hydraulic attachments.
6. Perform diagnostic tests on hydraulic systems for operational pressures and flow check.
7. Must be able to meet flat rate as established by Caterpillar and industry standards.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Branch Coordinator, the Lube Technician exists to drive a lube truck and perform off-site lubrication by servicing, completing preventative maintenance work on heavy equipment and generators, performing minor mechanical field repairs on equipment, and maintaining records and preventative maintenance schedules for assigned equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Drives a lube truck to various locations and performs servicing on diesel powered vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids, including windshield washers, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and differentials.
2. Performs all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.

POSITION SUMMARY:   

Under limited supervision of the General Service Manager-Machinery, this position acts as a liaison between the dealership and Caterpillar. The Technical Communicator will communicate with Caterpillar and relay any pertinent information as needed to the customers and the dealership. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Keep personnel informed of the latest updates from Caterpillar by maintaining a Technical Library and distributing technical information within the organization.
2. Develop and maintain Caterpillar contacts to ensure a point of contact for all CAT product updates.
3. Provide excellent customer support that includes troubleshooting, providing logical and timely response to customer technical problems and questions, and representing our customers in relaying product concerns to Caterpillar.
4. Accurately provide timely information to Sales, Parts, and Service by meeting customer needs and minimizing or eliminating startup and operating problems, reducing rework, and verify any complaints by comparing operation with normal or specified operation.
5. Identify components likely to be involved using standard reference if given an operator’s complaint. Gather and report all requested data including production codes if given a specific product failure. Identify the correct factory service engineering contact to resolve if given a specific product problem. Describe failure verbally and in writing if given a failed part.
6. Administer the appropriate Sales and Service literature by identifying application zone and describing critical factors and recommendations to factory or user as needed.
7. Will go out in the field as needed to ensure the latest updated information is communicated to the Parts and Sales departments.
8. Determine cause of wear, failure, reusability, and salvage methods on worn or failed parts.
9. Implement effect of specific application or user maintenance practices on performance.
10. Make inspections and generate reports of deficiencies for user or for factory.
11. Measure scheduled oil sampling results and makes recommendations to user as needed.
12. Take into consideration Dealer and factory liability when reporting and investigating an accident.

The Service Supervisor ensures the successful daily operations of the branch.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures successful operations of daily branch responsibilities by daily review of all timecards and service reports, daily work in progress (WIP) review, and reviewing work orders prior to closing.
2. Maintains records by recording problems and corrective actions planned and completing service reports and SIMS.
3. Assists with managing costs by identifying work orders that are higher than the estimated or quoted cost and reviewing the work schedule to update WIP priorities, segments, parts, deliveries, and completion deadline. Implements methods of payment by identifying credit status and obtaining approval for credit, if necessary.
4. Inputs data to computer by compiling and sorting information, establishing entry priorities, and completing input.
5. Maintains customer satisfaction by establishing rapport with customers and others in a position to help meet customer needs.
6. Assists with the preparation of machinery service by answering phones and data processing.
7. Maintains technicians’ payroll information by ensuring technicians’ repair description is correctly captured.
8. Prepares work orders by inputting data, contacting customers for purchase order numbers, obtaining credit approval if needed, collecting payment for cash jobs, and making copies for files.
9. Prepares vendor statements for approval by reviewing, researching unpaid invoices, and requesting for copies of outstanding invoices from vendors.
10. Prepares invoices for payment by verifying amounts, selecting account numbers, and making copies for files.
11. Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
12. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications.
13. Supports cross departmental operations within the branch (Service, Sales, Rental, Parts).
14. Identifies and coordinates facility needs to include maintenance, repairs, improvements, and safety compliance.
15. Upon return of equipment, checks for damage and coordinates with service for fueling, repairs, etc.
16. Knowledgeable of Hawthorne Rent It Service processes, systems, and equipment.
17. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
18. Conducts evaluations for direct reports.
19. Provides Ownership of Service and Branch Excellence Metrics for the branch.
20. Provides first level, on-island support for customer issues and disputes.
21. Is responsible for the branch WIP Management Process.
22. Is responsible for the rollout and adherence to corporate programs / ERP usage by the branch.
23. Ensures all service work is quoted and approved and proactively communicated to the customer.
24. Ensures corporate policy adherence for branch service operations staff, including service process control, safety, EHS, etc.
25. Ensures monthly EHS facility audits are conducted and communicated with corporate safety.
26. Is responsible for the branch Service vehicle fleet maintenance, licensing, and repair.
27. Completes all other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a minimum of 3-5 years experience in a CAT Dealer with demonstrated successful ability as a Service Coordinator.
3. Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.
4. Must have PC skills.
5. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
6. Must have the ability to multi task and establish priorities.
7. Must have the ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
8. Must have the ability to maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards assignments and successfully operate under ambiguous guidelines.
9. Must have an excellent customer service aptitude and proper business etiquette.
10. One year proven experience in a lead, supervisory or relevant role (PREFERRED).

POSITION SUMMARY: As a technician, with minimal supervision, the Machine Service Technician 2 - Field is responsible for providing high quality repairs on Caterpillar and allied equipment. The Machine Service Technician 2 - Field will diagnose and troubleshoot engines, powertrains, electrical, and hydraulic systems; experience with cat diagnostic equipment, Cat repair tooling, rigging, and blocking equipment is essential. Job Title:            PDR Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Service Manager, the PDR Specialist monitors, coordinates, and performs duties related to the rental and sales inventory. The PDR Specialist maintains trucks and equipment, cleans, pressure washes trucks and equipment, performs minor repairs and basic preventative maintenance for all manufacturers, maintains the rental yard, and demonstrates trucks and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Checks and prepares all incoming and outgoing Sales and Rental trucks and equipment.
2. Submits work orders for repair or maintenance of all trucks and equipment.
3. Maintains service and repair files on all sales and rental trucks and equipment.
4. Keeps the yard clean and organized.
5. Maintains all rental trucks and equipment. Washes, fuels, performs basic preventative maintenance per manufacturer’s specifications (240hr or first service only).
6. Performs the following minor repairs:
   • Minimal repairs to electrical components, limited to replacement of fixtures, bulbs, fuses, and belts.
   • Minimal repairs to chassis components, limited to replacement of brackets, buckets, and other attachments.
   • Minimal repairs to engine components, limited to replacement of oil filler caps, breather hoses, and dip sticks.
   • All major repairs will be conducted and performed in the main repair shop.
7. Demonstrates the safe and proper use of all trucks and equipment to customers.
8. Reports to and assists the Service Manager.
9. Completes all other duties as requested.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.
3. Must have PC skills.
4. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
5. Must be forklift certified or able to be certified within 60 days.
6. Must have some operational and mechanical knowledge of rental trucks and equipment.
7. Must have the ability to work with internal and external customers in a courteous and diplomatic manner.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of more skilled technicians, the Tech Trainee 1 primarily performs helper duties for employees in the Service Department. The Tech Trainee 1 may at times perform unskilled or semiskilled duties in assigned areas. The Tech Trainee 1 will remain in the Trainee 1 classification for a minimum period of 1 year. During this period, the Tech Trainee 1 will attend all assigned training classes and obtain passing grades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles Caterpillar, allied product machines, and Ag& Turf and industrial products serviced by the Service Department.
2. Measures and identifies parts and components for reusability or replacement, ordering new parts as required.
3. Performs all requirements found in Caterpillar and other allied lubrication and maintenance and warranty guidelines.
4. Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
5. Completes Service Reports in a timely manner and in accordance with HPC standards.
6. Travel as required within HPC established territory.
7. Operates HPC service vehicles.
8. Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
9. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Service Manager and with little or no supervision, the Technician 1 will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient, and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours necessary and without rework. 6. Recommends actions to correct failures or problems.
7. Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
8. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.
9. Handles Equipment Condition Reporting.
10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing results as needed.
