The Team

This role can sit in our NYC HQ on a hybrid basis, or it can be fully remote while working from a location based in either Eastern or Central time zones. We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer for our SRE, Atlas team to support, maintain and grow the Atlas platform. As a senior SRE, you will be expected to be able to design & build complex systems, operate with autonomy and act as owner for everything you do. 

The SRE Atlas team works alongside the various Atlas software engineering teams to provide expertise about running systems at scale, build new tooling and automation and perform essential maintenance of the Atlas fleet. 

This is an SRE team, which means you can expect a highly hands-on approach, tackling the technical challenges of implementing large scale solutions that have the ability to impact our customer’s most crucial workloads. 

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with a strong infrastructure background. This role requires engineers to have a customer-first mindset to ensure that everything we do results in a stronger product and a better experience for all Atlas customers. 

The ideal candidate should

• Have 5+ years of experience running critical systems at scale
• Value efficiency in processes and operations, and display a preference for automation over manual processes (“allergic to ops work”)
• Be familiar with a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and possess the ability to build and operate systems in a multi-cloud environment
• A strong understanding of how to run a large scale Linux environment, including low level fundamentals 
• Firm grasp of at least one modern programming language, beyond basic scripting (Go, Ruby, Python)
• Solid understanding of web and network protocols and standards (HTTP, TLS, DNS, etc)

The Team

Platform Engineering is the department within SRE that is responsible for a range of critical infrastructure and operational functions that support the broader engineering organization. Among these are our multi-cloud-provider Kubernetes infrastructure, networking, load balancing (including our public-facing edge and internal service mesh), and observability and alerting systems.

The Fleet Management team provides the core runtime environment that empowers our developers to build and ship products to delight our customers. We manage the end-to-end lifecycle of our Kubernetes fleet, alongside the critical components that ensure cluster reliability and security (e.g., CoreDNS, cert-manager, and Gatekeeper). As our infrastructure scales to support new use cases and products, we are spearheading a migration from Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to an Operator-driven lifecycle management model.

This role can be based out of our Austin, Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, Raleigh, or San Francisco offices, remotely in the United States region, or our European office in Dublin.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to developing and maintaining a scalable and secure runtime environment on top of Kubernetes that supports product needs across MongoDB
• Provide internal support for our Kubernetes ecosystem, partnering with engineering teams to help them solve domain-specific problems
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to resolve critical issues
• Prioritize blameless post-mortems and dedicate engineering time to systemic fixes, ensuring you aren’t paged for the same issue twice

You may be a good fit if you

• Have 6+ years of experience in software development and operating distributed systems
• Are proficient in Go, Python, or a similar language, with a strong commitment to code quality and testing practices (writing unit, integration, and E2E tests)
• Have deep experience using and extending containerization technologies, preferably Kubernetes
• Have a solid understanding of Linux operating system internals and networking concepts (e.g., filesystems, TCP/IP, DNS, TLS)
• Possess a customer focused mindset, treating internal developers as your primary users
• Have strong operational ownership, including a track record of debugging complex production issues and driving them to resolution
• Prefer automation over manual processes ("allergic to ops work")
• We are a small team of software engineers with a strong bias toward building software solutions to eliminate toil

Strong candidates may also have experience with

• Designing and implementing secure, multi-tenant runtime environments from first principles
• Proficiency with Kubernetes ecosystem tools such as Helm, Kustomize, Gatekeeper, Kyverno, and CRDs/Operators, CRI, CSI
• Expertise in cloud infrastructure platforms, including AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Proficiency in provisioning infrastructure using tools like Terraform, Crossplane, and AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK)
• Advanced Linux systems internals and networking concepts specifically relevant to containers, such as namespaces and cgroups

In this role, you will apply advanced electrical engineering analysis to operating systems in the field, performing root-cause failure analysis, diagnosing complex and recurring issues across inverters, transformers, protection systems, controls, and balance-of-plant equipment. You'll identify systemic risks, validate corrective actions, and drive data-backed recommendations to reduce downtime, prevent repeat failures, and extend asset life. You'll also be responsible for optimizing control schemes and operating strategies, translating observed field behavior and performance data into improved settings, logic, and operational standards. Working closely with Operations, Asset Management, Controls, and OEMs, you will bridge the gap between design intent and real-world performance to ensure the fleet operates safely and reliably, while maximizing value throughout the project lifecycle. 

This is a hybrid role out of our Lawrence, MA, or Boston, MA office, and will report to the Director, Performance Engineering.

What you’ll do:  

• Own plant protection, controls, and compliance strategy by reviewing and coordinating protection settings across OCPDs, relays, inverters, and plant controllers; managing required setting changes with third-party vendors; and securing utility approvals to ensure safe, reliable operation.
• Engage directly with utilities on complex grid-interaction issues related to protection schemes, relay settings, and plant control behavior; diagnose misalignment between plant and utility protection philosophies; and negotiate technically sound solutions that optimize availability and interconnection compliance.
• Improve system reliability and energy performance by evaluating and optimizing protection schemes, breaker coordination, relay timing, circuit configurations, and inverter control functions (Volt/VAR, Volt/Watt, frequency-watt, ramp rates, ride-through).
• Partner with Engineering to improve design standards and fleet consistency, including relay database templates, equipment specifications, standard drawings, and protection philosophies, with a focus on maintainability, operability, and lifecycle cost.
• Lead data-driven reliability and loss reduction efforts by analyzing inverter logs, relay events, EMS dispatch data, and waveform captures; conducting root-cause and 8D investigations; quantifying production and financial impacts; and recommending corrective actions, upgrades, or repowering strategies.
• Own fleetwide monitoring and diagnostics strategy by refining alert thresholds, logic, and escalation workflows to reduce false positives, minimize alert fatigue, and accelerate incident response.
• Develop analytical models, diagnostic frameworks, and performance standards for Nexamp’s PV and BESS fleet, integrating power systems engineering with data analytics to identify constraints and improvement opportunities.

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $125,000 - $135,000. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual bonus programs based on individual and company performance, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans). • Engage directly with utilities on complex grid-interaction issues related to protection schemes, relay settings, and plant control behavior; diagnose misalignment between plant and utility protection philosophies; and negotiate technically sound solutions that optimize availability and interconnection compliance.
• Improve system reliability and energy performance by evaluating and optimizing protection schemes, breaker coordination, relay timing, circuit configurations, and inverter control functions (Volt/VAR, Volt/Watt, frequency-watt, ramp rates, ride-through).

Compensation

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $125,000 - $135,000. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual bonus programs based on individual and company performance, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans). Mission Summary:

Motional is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer expert for its Web Visualization Tooling team.  This role will directly contribute through the creation of critical web tooling and visualization that allows us to improve our feedback loops for machine learning (ML) engineers and improving the performance and adaptability of our autonomous vehicle (AV) system.

Role Responsibilities:

• Own and expand backend implementation and architecture of our visualization tooling suite (e.g., data mining quality assurance, operations and log ingestion, annotation pipelines, telemetry viewers).
• Collaborate closely with ML, frontend, UX, data services, data mining, and data annotation teams to align tooling with real-world workflows
• Support scalable, performance APIs and services for visual development, debugging, and annotation systems.
• Help mature internal standards, observability, and deployment processes for our backend stack
• Maintain and mature the team’s CI/CD infrastructure and process.

Qualifications (required):

• Desire to design and build user-facing visual applications, and a passion for good UX.
• Strong proficiency in backend development with NodeJS and Python.
• Solid understanding and practical experience with AWS CDK in TypeScript.
• Ability to own and expand backend implementation and architecture of visualization tooling suite.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in diverse and highly technical domains of expertise.
• Experience in supporting scalable, high-performance APIs and services for visual development, debugging, and annotation systems.
• Ability to help mature internal standards, observability, and deployment processes for backend stack.
• Experience in maintaining and maturing CI/CD infrastructure and processes.
