Mission Statement
The Subscriptions Mission builds and evolves Spotify's subscription products and marketplace experiences to drive sustainable user and revenue growth globally. We focus on awareness, acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization strategies that help users unlock the full value of Spotify while enabling the business to scale efficiently and responsibly.
About the Team
This role sits at the heart of the Subscriptions Mission and owns how users move through the freemium funnel — from the moment a free user encounters Premium value, through trial, conversion, activation, and into long-term retention. You’ll partner closely with product, design, marketing, finance, pricing & packaging, and regional commercial teams to shape the end-to-end subscriber journey across plans and markets.

The Platform team creates the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily, enabling rapid growth in our users and our business around the globe. Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to welcome a billion customers.
You’ll join a Platform team building AI-native conversational analytics experiences that help teams across Spotify explore, understand, and act on data more intuitively. We are rethinking how people interact with analytics by combining production backend systems, intuitive product surfaces, SQL-backed insights, and LLM-powered interfaces. This is a high-ownership, highly collaborative environment where engineers, product, and data partners work closely to turn ambiguous internal data needs into reliable tools used by real teams.
Own backend/fullstack product initiatives from problem framing through technical design, delivery, launch, and iteration
Build conversational analytics capabilities that let users ask natural-language questions, explore data, and receive useful analytical answers through user-facing and integration surfaces
Design APIs, services, and data-driven workflows that are reliable, observable, maintainable, and scalable
Improve monitoring, quality signals, graceful degradation, and feedback loops so LLM-powered analytical experiences can be trusted in production
Collaborate with product managers, designers, data scientists, and data engineers to turn complex analytics problems into simple user experiences and clear delivery milestones
Make independent technical tradeoffs, communicate progress through clear written artifacts, and help reduce ambiguity for the team
Use AI-assisted engineering tools actively while staying accountable for architecture, verification, maintainability, and the final outcome
You have 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with recent hands-on ownership of backend or backend-leaning fullstack products
You have strong backend engineering foundations, ideally in Python or Java, and have designed, built, and operated production APIs, services, or data-driven workflows used by real users or customers
You are comfortable with TypeScript and modern frontend systems, although your core strength is backend engineering rather than primarily frontend UI development
You have worked in a product engineering environment, such as a startup, scale-up, modern platform/product team, or product-like consulting engagement, where engineers own outcomes and iterate based on user or stakeholder feedback
You care about production quality: observability, testing, reliability, security, graceful degradation, and sensible API design
You are curious about AI/ML and LLM-powered products; hands-on experience with agents, RAG, prompt iteration, evaluation loops, analytics, BI, or data warehouses is a plus when paired with strong product engineering fundamentals

The Performance Optimization Squad is a newly formed team in the Core Infrastructure Studio with a mission to establish a core competency in performance engineering and address systemic inefficiencies across Spotify's platform. With 3,200+ microservices, 40,000 VMs at peak, and 500,000 K8s pods, even minor fleet-wide efficiency improvements result in substantial cost savings. We've already identified $8M+ in annual savings from our first initiative alone, and we're just getting started.
This squad works horizontally across the entire stack — but none of that optimization happens without the data to see it. We're looking for a Data Analyst who will build the measurement foundation that drives every decision we make.
Optimization at this scale is only possible when someone can see the problem clearly. You'll build the data foundation from scratch; designing and owning the datasets, pipelines, and metrics that make performance inefficiencies visible across the platform.

T-shaped: deep in your specialty, intensely curious about the rest.
You think product-first while building tech solutions
You're comfortable designing and operating distributed systems and microservices architectures
You actively use AI tools (agents, code assistants, AI-powered reviews, generative prototyping) in your daily work
You break ambiguous problems into clear, executable milestones and bias toward shipping
You're comfortable with modern infrastructure practices (CI/CD, containers, cloud platforms) and care about observability
You have excellent communication skills and default to over-communication in a distributed team
