Job Title: Senior / Principal, Simulation & Game Developer (Autonomous Systems)

Description

TurbineOne is looking for a senior/principal game developer to build an interactive simulation environment that brings our autonomous vehicle software to life. This role will focus on developing a “game-like” platform where both technical and non-technical users can design, run, and evaluate real-world scenarios involving aerial drones and autonomous maritime systems.

You will own the development of a simulation product that integrates our autonomy stack as the “agents” inside rich, physics-based environments. Leveraging platforms like Unreal Engine (AirSim) or Unity, you will create intuitive tools and immersive environments that enable rapid scenario testing, validation, and experimentation.

This is a highly cross-functional role at the intersection of game development, simulation, and robotics.

Primary Responsibilities

• Own the design and development of a simulation platform that enables users to create and test real-world autonomous vehicle scenarios
• Build immersive, physics-based environments using Unreal Engine (preferred, with AirSim) or Unity
• Integrate TurbineOne’s autonomy software into simulation environments as controllable agents
• Develop intuitive tooling and UX that allows non-technical users to configure scenarios, define conditions, and evaluate outcomes
• Create systems for scenario scripting, playback, telemetry visualization, and analysis
• Collaborate closely with robotics engineers to ensure simulation fidelity and alignment with real-world vehicle behavior
• Balance realism with usability—build simulations that are both technically meaningful and easy to interact with
• Be a product owner—define and drive the vision for simulation capabilities; there are no tickets to crunch here
• Dream big—prototype, experiment, and iterate quickly on new ideas for how simulation can accelerate autonomy development and testing

Desired Experience

• 5+ years of experience in game development, simulation engineering, or interactive 3D application development
• Strong experience with Unreal Engine (preferred) or Unity, including physics systems and environment creation
• Experience building tools or systems for user-generated content (e.g., level editors, scenario builders, modding tools)
• Familiarity with simulation frameworks such as AirSim, Gazebo, or similar is a strong plus
• Experience integrating external systems or APIs into game engines (e.g., networking, real-time data, control systems)
• Understanding of enemy AI, complex scripting behaviors or other NPC mecahnics
• Strong sense of UX for interactive tools—especially for non-technical users
• Experience working through ambiguity and shaping early-stage products
• Bonus: familiarity with robotics concepts (ROS, MAVLink, etc.) or prior work in simulation for autonomy

Fullstack Developers at HRT work either on our platform team (i.e. you work on infrastructure & tooling that supports all of our research & trading capabilities) or our acceleration team (i.e. you are aligned with a specific algo research & trading team). All of our Fullstack Developers have internal customers and deeply understand end-user needs. They build backend processes to ingest and transform vast quantities of data, and UIs to visualize and action that data quickly. 

Responsibilities: 

• Work on our in-house distributed-compute framework designed for execution on a large scale within HRT’s compute cluster. This framework serves various teams, with our algo teams being the primary users, particularly for training complex models.
• Work closely with our Algo Developers and traders, building backend processes and UIs for them to oversee trading processes, execute manual trades, assess risk, and research improvements to our strategies.
• Work closely with a variety of senior technical and non-technical users and own projects end-to-end, from inception to gathering and refining requirements, forming and executing a structured plan, and managing ongoing support and iterations to the initial plan.  
• Architect web-based tooling to provide insights and enable real-time actions using financial data, operational data, trading activity, and more using React and Python.

The interview process will evaluate your backend programming skills (primarily Python), and your experience working in JavaScript/TypeScript on a modern web framework (React skills are required!). It is important that you are excited about and comfortable with working on both sides of the stack. All fullstack candidates will go through the same assessment & two technical phone interviews. The estimated base salary range for this position is 175,000 to 250,000 USD per year (or local equivalent). The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. 

This role will also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and a competitive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and enrollment in our company’s retirement savings plans. ABOUT THE TEAM

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As the leader of the engineering team, you will guide a group of talented engineers in building the window into our complex, mission-critical systems.

• Lead and Mentor: Manage and grow a team of 5+ software engineers, fostering a culture of high performance, technical excellence, and collaboration. You will be responsible for the team's composition, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Drive Technical Strategy: Partner with Product Management, Design leadership, and other key stakeholders to define the product vision. You will own the technical roadmap, validating capabilities and mapping out timelines to turn ambitious concepts into reality.
• Solve Ambiguous Problems: Tackle complex, non-well-defined problems at the intersection of real-time graphics, data simulation, and user interaction. You will spearhead the architecture and design of robust, scalable solutions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Proven experience managing and leading a team of 5+ engineers, with responsibility for hiring and performance management
• 10+ years of professional programming experience, with deep expertise in C++ and modern software engineering principles
• Shipped at least one AAA game title or equivalent real-time simulation product in a senior or lead engineering capacity
• Experience owning the technical side of a product roadmap, working closely with Product and Design to translate vision into an executable plan
• A track record of architecting and delivering solutions to complex, open-ended technical challenges in large codebases
• Solid understanding of 3D math and real-time rendering concepts

ABOUT THE TEAM

Anduril's TRS Simulation team owns the ecosystem, frameworks, and guidance that make simulation possible, repeatable, and scalable across the Tactical Recon & Strike business line. We don't just run sims, we define what it means for a simulation to be trustworthy. Our team operates across four pillars: Sim Infrastructure, Sim Fidelity, Sim Integrations, and Training Simulations, supporting products like Altius, Ghost, Bolt, and Anvil from early development through field deployment. Every fidelity improvement, every validated model, and every simulation environment we deliver directly determines whether autonomous systems are ready to fly real missions.

Our vision is one simulation framework that serves every product and every deployment target, from a developer's laptop through CI pipelines, operator training environments, and large-scale HPC Monte Carlo campaigns. The same declarative workspace definition can be composed, extended, and deployed wherever simulation is needed, so teams spend their time on mission problems instead of reinventing infrastructure.

THE ROLE

This role is for someone who loves going deep on a problem. You'll identify where simulated components diverge from real-world behavior at the system level, work with our functional teams who own those subsystems to understand what a better model looks like, then own the integration, optimization, and validation within our simulation framework. The cycle is: analyze the gap, understand the domain, engineer the solution into the framework, and prove the fidelity improvement with data. The problems are genuinely complex, multi-physics, multi-rate, spanning both real-time and faster-than-real-time execution for large-scale Monte Carlo campaigns, and the feedback loop is measured in months, not years: your improvements are validated against real flight data and deployed to operational systems on a cadence that keeps pace with product development.

You are expected to quickly develop working knowledge of the domains you touch (sensors, comms, navigation, environment, autonomy interfaces) and become an effective partner to our teams that own those subsystems. You'll care about performance characteristics, numerical stability, integration correctness, and building the validation tooling that makes fidelity measurable and repeatable. Whether your background is in industry or academia, what matters is demonstrated depth of ownership over complex software systems and the ability to pick up new domains and deliver reliable, performant software within them. You will own your solutions from design through delivery and long-term maintenance, with the support and collaboration of our team behind you. At the senior level, we expect you to operate across the full breadth of the simulation stack and help shape our team's technical direction.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Analyze simulated subsystems within the framework to identify where system-level behavior diverges from real-world data, quantifying gaps and their downstream impact on simulation trustworthiness.
• Partner with functional engineering teams (flight dynamics, perception, guidance, comms) who own subsystem models to understand requirements, integrate their higher-fidelity models into the simulation framework, and validate the integration through statistical analysis.
• Engineer framework-level solutions that enable higher-fidelity models to run efficiently, addressing performance constraints, timing coordination, and numerical integration concerns.
• Build and maintain validation tooling and benchmarks that make fidelity measurable: automated comparison against real-world data, regression detection, and acceptance threshold enforcement.
• Design and run Monte Carlo validation campaigns to verify that fidelity improvements hold across parameter sweeps and edge cases, not just nominal conditions.
• Work across faster-than-real-time simulation and software-in-the-loop (SITL) environments, understanding the performance and fidelity trade-offs at each tier.
• Identify opportunities where industry-standard or academic approaches could improve our simulation strategy, and coordinate with the appropriate domain teams to evaluate and adopt them.
• At the senior level: drive cross-cutting fidelity strategy across the simulation stack, mentor other engineers, and represent the fidelity team's technical perspective in cross-functional design reviews.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• At least 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with a systems language (C++, Rust) and an analysis/scripting language (Python, MATLAB).
• Experience with performance analysis and optimization of complex software systems (profiling, bottleneck identification, latency reduction, computational efficiency).
• Comfort with numerical and scientific computing concepts (integration methods, statistical analysis).
• Demonstrated ability to take deep ownership of a system end-to-end: understand it, identify problems, design solutions, implement them, and validate the results with data.
• Experience building or maintaining automated test/validation infrastructure that enforces correctness over time.
• Track record of working effectively across team boundaries, particularly with domain experts whose systems you need to understand and integrate with.
• Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases.
• A desire to work on critical software that has a real-world impact.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Additional for Senior candidates:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience driving technical strategy and making architectural decisions that affect multiple teams or systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field.

• Familiarity with flight dynamics, control systems, sensor modeling, or other aerospace-adjacent domains (even at a high level).
• Experience with modern build and deployment tooling (Nix, Docker, CI/CD systems).
• Background in academic research or computational science with a transition (or desire to transition) into applied software engineering.
• Experience with data pipelines for comparing simulation output against real-world reference data.
• Familiarity with HPC environments (SLURM, containerized workloads, cluster computing).
• A bias toward rapid delivery and iteration.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

• Work closely with Divisions within NPAD, including Policy & Government Affairs and Organizing, and ACLU affiliates to chart the course for the ACLU’s abuse of power portfolio, and other civil rights and civil liberties issues-related federal campaigns within the National Political Advocacy Department  
• Support and consult with the State Campaigns Division and ACLU affiliates on identifying and executing on civil rights and civil liberties issues-related, state-based campaigns to the extent that they overlap with federal/national campaigns 
• Lead a cross-functional team charged with developing campaign goals, strategies, and budgets to reach political/policy outcomes   
• Responsible for achieving legislative and administrative victories that advance civil rights and civil liberties issues at the national/federal level, while building the ACLU’s power  
• Identify areas of work that should be prioritized by the team, as well as campaigns and initiatives in response to unexpected, significant developments

The opportunity
The Unity Editor Platform Team is looking for an experienced software engineer with an excellent working knowledge of modern C++ and desktop platform APIs to join our team of seasoned developers.

Our team focus is to provide the native foundation of the Unity Editor application across Windows, macOS and Linux. A successful developer in this role will have proven modern C++ development experience, as well as experience in at least one native platform API from Win32, Cocoa or GTK. The team’s goal is to provide abstractions to C# features that behave consistently across platforms while making use of the strengths of the editor user’s chosen platform.

Lead Software Engineer

The Lead Software Engineer designs and evolves core services within the NICE CXone platform, building scalable cloud systems that support enterprise customers worldwide.
