As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer at GitLab, you will work at the intersection of customer outcomes, product direction, and hands-on engineering. This role is focused on strategic accounts in the AMER region, where you will help customers adopt GitLab and the GitLab Duo Agent Platform in complex enterprise environments, including self-managed, regulated, and constrained deployments. What you’ll do

• Conduct deep technical discovery in selected strategic accounts to assess platform readiness, evaluate constraints, and identify high-value adoption opportunities across GitLab and GitLab Duo Agent Platform.
• Lead architecture and delivery design for complex enterprise environments where platform migration, regulated requirements, and product boundaries intersect.
• Partner with customer stakeholders and GitLab account teams to prioritize use cases based on business impact, technical feasibility, repeatability, and long-term platform value.
• Design and build bounded proofs, prototypes, deployment patterns, and reusable accelerators across source code management, CI/CD, security, compliance, and AI-enabled workflows.
• Architect self-managed and enterprise deployments, including runners, access controls, network boundaries, observability, AI Gateway, model connectivity, and governance controls.
• Turn recurring field patterns into reusable assets such as runbooks, templates, design notes, technical guidance, product briefs, and reference architectures that can be used across accounts.
• Contribute code, technical designs, or architecture changes when strategically necessary, in partnership with product and engineering, to address blockers that should be solved upstream.
• Travel as needed for strategic customer engagements, architecture workshops, and team coordination, with expected travel up to 50%.

What you’ll bring

• Experience in software engineering, platform architecture, forward deployed engineering, technical consulting, or similar customer-facing engineering roles.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals, including the ability to read, reason about, and contribute to production systems, ideally with experience in Ruby on Rails and/or Go.
• Strong systems design and software architecture skills, with experience evaluating APIs, asynchronous workflows, CI/CD systems, security boundaries, scalability, and operational tradeoffs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're about to launch a payments venture on top of Rootstock, Bitcoin's EVM-compatible sidechain. This is a 0 → 1 role — you'll take proven protocol-level technology and shape it into a portfolio of payment products, such as remittances, merchant pay, or agentic transactions. You'll operate at startup speed, supported by some of the best engineers in crypto, shape your own squad, and be the external face of this venture. You will report to the CTO/Head of Core INFRA with high autonomy and support from the wider organisation. This is a breakout role for someone who's been in the engine room of a crypto payments project and is ready to lead one.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Role Overview

Head of Product & Business Development - Agentic Payments will own go‑to‑market and strategic partnerships for Rumble Cloud’s crypto‑native infrastructure services and payment rails. This role is responsible for building a high‑value ecosystem of exchanges, wallets, AI/agent platforms, and payment providers that positions Rumble Cloud as the default infrastructure for agentic payments.  We have offices in Toronto, Sarasota, Miami, and Washington D.C. - the preference would be in a commutable distance from the office, but this position can be remote.

Key Responsibilities

The Challenge:

We are seeking an expert developer, technical leader, and core team member who will take end-to-end ownership of whole systems and drive major complex systems initiatives. RustVMM has great potential as a new hypervisor for Linux. We are building a team to work on this, with an emphasis on performance, security and operability. Work in Rust and bring your expert knowledge of VMM and related kernel networking and storage capabilities.

Docker images are easy to make and publish on Docker Hub and other registries, but the quality, consistency and security maintenance of those images is broadly very poor. Canonical is in a good position to publish a portfolio of outstanding Docker images. Our Rockcraft team is designing and implementing an elevated Docker image experience for the open source community.

LXD is a modern system container and virtual machine manager that is widely used on Ubuntu, ChromeOS and other Linux platforms. LXD engineering spans the entire software stack from low-level kernel work on namespaces, confinement, security, filesystems, VMMs and networking, to the high level management REST API and CLI.

Members of the Kubernetes product team build MicroK8s for on-rails K8s, and Charmed Kubernetes for more sophisticated integration. We work on K8s itself and on the operations tooling around it.

The OpenStack team deliver Charmed OpenStack, OVN / OVS and Ceph. This work brings cloud platform technologies to large-scale computing environments.

These teams hire system level C/C++, Golang, Rust and Python developers to work on security-critical, performance-critical and mission-critical code, focused on software delivery, containers, security, sandboxing, application orchestration and management. Our teams are motivated to have a meaningful impact on modern cloud computing technologies.

Job Description:
We are looking for a Member of Technical Staff, Research to investigate, design, test and develop state of the art (SOTA) methods and applications, which can be integrated into the broader AI engine FirstPrinciples is developing. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and your work will flow straight into production, helping advance the way scientific research is performed. Your work will impact the wider academic community through the development of unique solutions to usher in a new era of scientific discovery. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in AI research, who can combine strategic thinking with technical depth to bring complex ideas to life.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundamental Model Research:

• Research, design, and test novel, research‑specific model architectures that integrate academic literature, natural language processing (NLP), symbolic reasoning, and other methods to orchestrate the scientific process.
• Prototype and build custom tokenizers for LaTeX symbols and physical units to be treated as tokens.
• Explore alternatives to transformers through in-depth research and provide practical recommendations for model development.
• Develop reinforcement-learning loops to enable models to run independent and internal thought experiments.

Multimodal Data & Benchmarking:

• Design and automate data ingestion pipelines in collaboration with our Data Scientists & Engineers that aggregates science literature, metadata, experimental data, equations and other data sources in a robust and scalable manner.
• Establish custom benchmarks to assess the models’ understanding of physical concepts, mathematical reasoning abilities, and ability to minimize hallucinations for the benefit of scientific reliability.
• Refine and release datasets and baselines once internal tests are stable.

Training, Testing & Safety:

• Run and track model training jobs while leading the technical team through set-up, monitoring progress, and constraining costs within budget.
• Develop approaches to stage “practice runs” in a sandbox environment to develop the model’s abilities to explore ideas independently while logging results for later review.
• Develop a framework to evaluate the models’ learning using visual and statistical tools to spot patterns and blind spots.
• Add guard-rails and tests that flag poor quality model output.
• Maintain internal tools to track lists of known issues, noting failures, clear fixes, and improvements to be integrated into future development

Collaboration & Technical Guidance:

• Work with the engineering team to ensure product feasibility and robust architecture.
• Translate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders in clear terms.
• Present findings in clear updates to the technical team in order to keep the broader team appraised of progress against research milestones.

Qualifications:

• Educational Background: PhD in physics, computer science, data science, information systems, or related field.
• Experience: Proven track record of conducting in-depth research on scientific AI models, symbolic models, machine learning or deep learning for scientific discovery. 
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with SOTA models, best practices in model development processes, in-depth AI/ML concepts, and data infrastructure.
• Collaboration & Communication:
  • Comfort working closely with engineers and other technical team members.
