COMPENSATION

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $146,000 to $182,000 upon hire. About the Role: 

The mission of the Sales Engineer is to partner with sales executives; to provide in-depth technical knowledge and support during evaluation of the product, collaborate to close opportunities and onboard new clients. About the Job

We are developing a core technology that will operate in the worst conditions the world’s oceans have to offer for years at a time without human maintenance or intervention. As a Senior Structural Engineer - Simulation, you will be the architect of the digital tools that define our physical success. You will sit at the intersection of structural mechanics and high-performance computing, developing the solvers and automation pipelines that allow us to evaluate millions of design possibilities with physics-backed confidence.

You will lead the development of our internal Julia-based reduced order structural models (ROM) and the pipelines connecting these fast solvers with high-fidelity FEA.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and advance our reduced-order beam element analysis tool written in Julia. Author new load cases, fix bugs, and optimize performance.
• Build and maintain seamless automation pipelines that transition designs from reduced-order models to high-fidelity FEA shell element models.
• Collaborate with Marine Ops, Manufacturing, and ME teams to define and analyze critical load environments, including wave slamming, tow loads, crane lifts, and fatigue.
• Own the mass estimation process for candidate devices, providing high-accuracy tracking as we iterate through new design concepts.
• Verify automated results using classical hand calculations and perform FEA in Nastran to validate the accuracy of reduced-order outputs.
• Leverage Docker, GCP, and PostgreSQL/Python to manage large-scale simulation data and cloud-based compute workloads.
• Act as the structural simulation lead for novel primary structures, ensuring designs are well-understood from a structural perspective even when conceptual in their maturity.

Required qualifications

• An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience and expertise.
• 3+ years of experience in a role involving both structural analysis and software/tooling development.
• Proven experience writing clean, maintainable code in Julia and Python.

• Develop tools and dashboards that visualize live sensor telemetry side-by-side with simulation outputs for fleet-wide performance monitoring.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Staff Data Engineer is a senior leader responsible for designing and evolving core components of onX’s lakehouse and data platform. This role focuses on how data is structured, governed, secured, and described so that analytics, product features, and AI systems can operate reliably at scale.

This engineer operates at the intersection of data architecture, metadata, governance, and security, leading complex initiatives and setting technical direction within the Data Engineering organization. They are a trusted technical partner to Product, Analytics, Data Science, Security, and Platform teams, and serve as a force multiplier for other engineers through high-level technical guidance and active mentorship.

As an onX Data Engineer, your day to day responsibilities would look like:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Design and evolve the Iceberg-based lakehouse architecture to balance scalability, cost, performance, and maintainability.
• Define and promote standards for table design, partitioning, schema evolution, optimization, and data layout.
• Lead architectural efforts spanning batch, streaming, and event-driven data processing where they deliver business value.
• Drive the design and delivery of complex, cross-team initiatives, enabling teams to move independently within established architectural guidance.
• Build vs. Buy: Evaluate and integrate technologies.

Metadata, Governance & Open Standards

• Define how datasets, pipelines, features, and models are described, related, and governed using shared metadata.
• Lead the adoption and integration of open-source metadata and catalog tools (e.g., OpenMetadata or similar ecosystems).
• Establish metadata standards that enable self-service analytics, governance, and AI readiness.
• Partner with BI and Analytics to ensure domain models are clearly documented and aligned to business language.
• Collaborate with Data Science to ensure model inputs, features, and outputs are traceable, explainable, and reusable.

Security, Access Control & Compliance

• Design and evolve security and access-control models for Apache Iceberg, including table-, column-, and row-level controls.

COMPENSATION

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $175,000 to $218,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
