A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Lead complex projects within a cross-functional collaborative and supportive environment.
- Orchestrate our backend services to support internationalization working across software both in the restaurant and the cloud
- Design, build, deploy and maintain highly resilient and scalable systems critical to our customers’ success.
- Iterate on our technical approach to data management in support our international strategy
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members, leading technical discussions and promoting best engineering practices.
- Work directly with pilot customers (sometimes in the restaurant!) to ensure successful delivery and operation
- Advocate for best coding practices, raising the bar for yourself, your team, and the company.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- 8+ years of experience in delivering high quality, reliable services to production using Java, Kotlin or other object oriented language(s)
- Proven track record of architecting, supporting and debugging large distributed & multi threaded applications.
- Drive to work across our tech stack and support other engineers in resolving challenging problems
- Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild.
- Ability to embrace an agile mindset focused on delivering usable software.
- Experience with fiscalisation, internationalization is a plus

What we're looking for:
- BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years’ experience in software development, programming, design, and analysis.
- Expertise in programming languages and technologies including Java, Python, Golang, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Cloud formation).
- Experience delivering high performance, active-active, scalable services (Enterprise Java/J2EE, Web Services, large-scale data systems/NoSQL)
- Experience with Containers (Docker and Kubernetes)
- Proficient in the software development process, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Track record monitoring and analyzing system performance, isolating issues or bottlenecks that could impact reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Possess deep knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
- Identifying and mitigating technical risks.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL programming (Oracle, Cassandra, Amazon Aurora) including both relational database schema designs and schema-less systems.
- Hands-on experience in Amazon Web Services, at enterprise scale is required including familiarity with DynamoDB, Aurora, EC2, and other AWS services.
- Experience performing performance testing and/or development efforts for a complex, high throughput system.
- Solid understanding of the path(s) customer requests flow from web browser to back-end.
- Synchronous and asynchronous patterns and use cases. (REST, RPC, EDA, Eventual Consistency)
- Understanding of Domain Driven Design
- Understanding of loose coupling software design patterns (i.e., hexagonal architecture)
- Have an opinion around microservice vs SOA.
- Conduct research on new technologies and methodologies, and make recommendations for improvement.
- Proven ability to take a project from scoping requirements to actual launch of project.
- Work with other Principal Engineers to align technology and architecture strategies.
- Extensive experience with agile development methodologies and practices involving creating tests prior to coding required.
- Experience with open source technology stacks and scripting technologies required.
- Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.

- Experience developing & integrating full-stack web applications using modern frameworks (e.g., Typescript, React, Node.js, APIs).
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a product engineering space, translating high-level requirements into technical plans and workstreams is highly desirable.
- Experience working on third-party integrations with major HRIS systems (Workday, SAP, ADP).
- Familiarity with modern AI tools, e.g., Cursor.

Actual compensation for this position may vary and will depend on multiple factors such as relevant qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location. For Full-Time Regular Employees, this position is also eligible for additional compensation as follows:
- Sales Roles: This position is eligible for a commission structure in addition to base salary.

About the position:
As a Staff Software Engineer at G-P you will be hands-on, perform as an individual contributor and will also lead a small team of software engineers.
What you'll do:
- Provide hands-on technical leadership in the development team

About the position:
As a Staff Software Engineer at G-P you will be hands-on, perform as an individual contributor and will also lead a small team of software engineers.

As a Senior Software Engineer for our Retailers business function, you are responsible for writing efficient, well-structured, and maintainable code, setting an example for other engineers as a subject matter expert, mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers. Job Summary:
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to the technical excellence and scalability of our SaaS Employee Experience platform. Key Responsibilities

Fintech at Toast operates one of the most critical portions of the Toast infrastructure: processing payments on behalf of our restaurants and ensuring that restaurants are paid in a timely manner. Payment processing is a key source of Toast’s revenue and also the lifeblood of our customers; we process millions of dollars in transactions per day.
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Payments team to build out our unified payment processing solution. This platform offers a single, integrated service for payment acceptance across various channels and supports a configurable enterprise approach. It is designed to allow a build-once, available-to-all strategy for both existing and emerging payment methods. The successful candidate will guide and contribute to the development of services providing supporting and core functionality within and around this payment processing solution.
A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Plan, design, build, and deliver features for Toast’s payments products
- Plan, develop, and implement best practices such as automated test suites to ensure the code shipped to our customers meets the highest quality standards
- Roll - pun intended! - features out to customers, including monitoring for success
- Collaborate with our PM (and UX) on the definition and design of features
- Collaborate and partner with a wide array of teams across Toast in order to spread knowledge inter- and intra-team
- Lead and work with experienced engineers to deliver design and code review
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- 8+ years of experience in designing and implementing robust backend services
- Ability to step into a technical leadership role on the team, guiding/coaching/mentor more junior engineers on best practices in architecture, design, coding, testing, deployment, etc.
- Proven ability to design and develop scalable and secure APIs that integrate with various internal/external systems
- Applied knowledge of best practices in API lifecycle management, including versioning, documentation, and deprecation strategies, with the ability to share this amongst the team and peers
- Demonstrated experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies for enhanced scalability and maintainability
Special Sauce (*Nice to Haves)
- Demonstrated proficiency with DynamoDB or PostgreSQL
- Proficiency in Kotlin (or Java and willing to learn Kotlin) and Kotlin-specific frameworks and libraries for building efficient backend solutions
- Experience with modern data architectures (event sourcing, OLAP, ETL/ELT, streaming data)
- Experience designing payments APIs
- Familiarity with PCI-DSS
- Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows and tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or similar)
