WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a data scientist in our options market making team, you will play a key role in improving our trading strategies through rigorous data-driven analysis. You’ll take a scientific approach to understanding how our systems perform in live markets—developing hypotheses, building experiments, and using advanced analytics to uncover opportunities for improvement.
You’ll work with large-scale production trading data to identify patterns, test ideas, and evaluate strategic changes. This may include leveraging statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and other quantitative methods to better understand market dynamics and strategy behavior.
You’ll collaborate closely with traders and engineers, but your work will be rooted in independent thinking, analytical rigor, and a strong focus on real-world impact.

WHO YOU ARE:

Strong research skills with a scientific mindset and a passion for solving real-world problems with data.
Proficient in Python for data analysis and prototyping; familiarity with C++ is a plus.
Experience applying machine learning or statistical modeling techniques to complex systems or noisy data.
Excellent critical thinking and attention to detail.
Effective communicator who can challenge ideas constructively, explain reasoning clearly, and collaborate across teams.
Prior experience in trading or financial markets is a plus, but not required.

Job Overview

Technical Consultation and Support

Handle and respond to complex technical inquiries from customers about DNA synthesis products (genes, oligo pools, mutant libraries, etc.), providing professional, timely, and accurate solutions.

Position Scope

SES AI is seeking a Computational Chemistry Interns to join the Molecular Universe team and support computational modeling and simulation of advanced electrolyte systems. This is a hands-on research role focused on liquid-phase molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, especially for electrolyte systems relevant to next-generation batteries.

Interns will receive training and mentorship from our computational scientist, and collaborate across global teams.

Location: China (Remote)
Duration: 6 months

Responsibilities

Contribute to the SES Molecular Universe project by supporting computational chemistry modeling and simulation of advanced electrolyte systems
Independently or collaboratively perform molecular dynamics simulations for liquid-phase systems, especially electrolytes, including system construction, initial structure generation, and simulation parameter setup
Execute the full MD workflow, including job submission, HPC resource utilization, run monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution
Analyze simulation results in depth, including but not limited to:
Structural properties such as radial distribution functions (RDF), coordination numbers, and solvation structures
Dynamic properties such as diffusion coefficients and ion transport behavior
Thermodynamic and statistical property extraction
Build and improve automated data-processing pipelines to enhance simulation efficiency, reproducibility, and scalability
Convert simulation outputs into clear reports, visualizations, and presentations that support scientific and engineering decision-making
Collaborate with internal teams to improve workflow robustness and reproducibility across simulation pipelines
Support the scaling and engineering of molecular simulation workflows within the MU platform

Qualifications

Examine the impacts of multiple variables on assay performance and perform troubleshooting as needed.
Proactively identify opportunities for product and process improvement.
Management and regular maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.

Requirements include:

B.S. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline.
2+ years hands on experience running and developing immunoassays, such as ELISA, as well as experience generating, analyzing, and reviewing assay data.
Knowledge in emerging reagent and immunoassay technologies is essential.
Data management skills highly beneficial.
Self-motivation with a positive “can do” attitude, attention to detail and ability to manage complex projects.
Strong communication skills to work within a multidisciplinary team environment required.
