JOB SUMMARY

Apptronik is seeking a Robotics Test Engineer to join the Software Integration & Test (RSIT) team. In this role, you will write the automated tests that verify Apollo's software at the integration layer, partner with senior engineers on defect investigations, and help grow the regression coverage that keeps each release safer than the last. You will work hands-on with our pytest-based test infrastructure, HIL benches, and the broader RSIT platform to turn software-level requirements into verifiable tests. This is a role designed for someone who wants to grow into deep expertise in robotics test engineering, with mentorship from senior teammates and meaningful ownership of test suites from day one.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Test Authoring: Write automated integration, contract, and ICD conformance tests in pytest against software-level requirements, with clear pass/fail signals that feed the release gate.
• Defect Investigation: Partner with senior engineers on root-cause investigations for CI failures, escaped defects, and stochastic issues, building familiarity with debugging tools (sanitizers, log analysis, MCAP playback) over time.
• Regression Coverage: Convert defects into permanent regression tests, ensuring every escape becomes a new automated check in the gate.
• HIL Test Execution: Run and maintain test suites on hardware-in-the-loop benches, capture data, and report results into the team's dashboards and result reporting systems.
• Test Suite Maintenance: Keep existing test suites healthy: triage flaky tests, update fixtures as the stack evolves, and improve readability and reliability of test code.
• Requirements Engagement: Read software-level requirements and Systems Validation plans, ask clarifying questions, and surface ambiguity or untestable language to senior teammates and Systems Engineering.
• Tooling Feedback: Serve as an active customer of the RSIT platform, surfacing friction in CI, dashboards, or release tooling so the Release & Integration team can improve developer experience.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with stack engineers, firmware engineers, and senior RSIT teammates to understand the systems being tested and produce verification that reflects how those systems actually behave.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Programming: Working proficiency in Python, including ability to write clean, maintainable test code and small utility scripts. Comfort reading C++ to understand the systems under test.
• Test Frameworks: Hands-on experience with pytest or an equivalent framework (unittest, Google Test, JUnit), including fixtures, parameterization, and test organization.
• Linux Comfort: Day-to-day fluency on the Linux command line, including basic systemd, log inspection, file system navigation, and shell scripting.
• Version Control: Solid Git fundamentals, including branching, pull requests, and code review participation.
• Debugging Mindset: Demonstrated curiosity and persistence in tracking down bugs, including willingness to read code in unfamiliar parts of the stack to understand a failure.
• Communication: Ability to write clear bug reports, test documentation, and pull request descriptions. Comfort asking questions and surfacing blockers early.

• Exposure to ROS or ROS2.
• Experience with CI/CD systems (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) as a user.
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing or other forms of hardware-integrated software verification.
• Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Loki, Prometheus) as a consumer of dashboards and logs.
• Background in robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, or another hardware-integrated domain through coursework, internships, or prior roles.
• Familiarity with sanitizer tooling (ASan, TSan, UBSan) or other dynamic analysis approaches.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
• 2-4 years of professional experience in software development, test engineering, or a related discipline. Strong internship and project experience may substitute for a portion of this requirement.
• Experience writing or maintaining automated tests in a production codebase is strongly preferred.

Team Description:

The Surgery & Robotics Hardware Team is looking for Electrical Engineers who want to advance the future of healthcare solutions with technology. At Neuralink we recognize that increasing healthcare costs, lack of access, and insufficient numbers of neurosurgeons globally require new approaches to enable greater access to our devices. To address these challenges we design fully autonomous robotics systems, human assistive surgical tools, and design entire surgical suites in order to provide better experiences for our customers.

Our team works on our surgical robot system which aims to fully automate the implantation of the Neuralink implant. We design and integrate multi-axis robotic arms, perception systems including custom imaging hardware, optical coherence tomography tissue imaging, power electronics, and safety systems such as 3D spatial mapping/object avoidance sensors. Robotics is part of a larger system of tools we work on. For example, using pre-op MRI scans we generate patient anatomy data that we later use in surgery to register precise surgery site locations. 

In addition to research and development of modern surgical technology, we also are responsible for bringing these technologies to market. We perform full lifecycle testing for all devices we design and ultimately manufacture them for use in human surgeries. To date, our designs have served over 20 individuals, and in the coming years our designs will serve thousands of individuals who wish to use our implant technology.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

As an Electrical Engineer on the Surgery & Robot Hardware Team, you will be expected to design, verify, and oversee the transition to production of a variety of custom electronics systems.  This role offers substantial autonomy and the exciting opportunity to own creative decisions and execute on new, impactful projects such as robotics stage designs, motor drives and controls, custom camera designs, manufacturing automation, and the firmware that enables all of these devices.

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
• Professional experience delivering on all phases of electronics design (requirements, part selection, schematic, layout, manufacturing, test)
• Demonstrated depth in at least one of the following:
  • Power electronics: experience designing custom power conversion, distribution, eFusing, and battery management systems in the low-to-medium (1W-2kW) range
  • FPGA hardware design for time sensitive systems such as image processing, high-speed data acquisition, or real time networking. Professional experience in FPGA selection, RTL development, digital signal processing theory and techniques, and hardware design to interface high speed physical layer devices via PCIe, MIPI, SLVS-ec, LVDS, etc

The Machine Shop team within Neuralink’s hardware organization is responsible for delivering ultra-precision mechanical components that go into our implants, surgical robots, electrode arrays, wireless chargers, and associated consumables. This includes CNC machining and rapid prototyping operations in a fast-paced, low-to-mid-volume, high-mix environment where every part must meet the stringent quality, biocompatibility, and reliability standards required for life-changing medical devices. Our team combines manufacturing expertise with rapid iteration to support both R&D prototypes and scalable production.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

As Machine Shop Operations Manager at Neuralink, you will lead day-to-day production operations of CNC machining and other rapid prototyping methods that support complex precision components for brain-computer interfaces, surgical tools, and implant hardware across our Austin, Texas and San Francisco, California facilities. This role blends operational oversight and execution with industrialization and manufacturing engineering to ensure that design execution, quality frameworks, and shop processes remain synchronized with the organization’s high-level objectives. This hands-on leadership role serves as the primary interface between the machine shop and cross-functional teams (Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance), driving manufacturability and production readiness across our programs.The position will require frequent travel between machine shop sites (expectation monthly).

• Leading day-to-day operations and execution in our expanding CNC machine shop across two locations, including staffing, work assignments, and production prioritization
• Supervising CNC programmers/machinists, setup technicians, and machine operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution

The opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Manager, Metrology & Optical Test expert to lead a focused group of engineers in our waveguide manufacturing team. This leadership role involves overseeing all aspects of measurement, calibration, and instrumentation, including nanostructure characterization and optical performance testing for outgoing products. Responsibility spans across the organization, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and compliance are maintained to deliver on customer requirements. The ideal candidate will be a leader and player/coach with a deep technical understanding of metrology and optical test principles, quality systems, and advanced measurement equipment. This role is integral to advancing our Optics NPI and Manufacturing practices and will work closely with cross-functional design, process, materials, and integration teams.

What you’ll do 

• Strategy and Leadership:
  • Develop and implement the Optical NPI and Manufacturing metrology strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and quality standards.

This includes recipe/configuration setups, statistical validation such as GR&R and matching studies, calibrated standards, golden unit creation,  long-term stability (LTS), and factory and site acceptance testing for new equipment.
• Technical Expertise and Support:
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert (SME) for all complex dimensional, mechanical, and electrical measurement challenges, providing technical guidance to cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, Manufacturing, Quality).
  • Apply expertise in metrology, characterization, optics, and nanofabrication to support imprint and replication processes, wafer cleaning, plasma etch, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and metals deposition.
  • Establish project priorities and manage resources, ensuring efficient workflow across metrology (AFM, ellipsometry, interferometry, and other characterization equipment) and waveguide optical testers (for KPIs such as ANSI, MTF, Transmission, etc).

  • In-depth knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.

About You and The Role  

As a Construction Foreman, you’ll own the transition of new and upgraded sites from construction handoff to operational readiness. You’ll lead a team of technicians to verify construction quality, install and integrate systems, deploy new technologies, and ensure infrastructure reliability

You be a key stakeholder in our site build process from initial site QC & constructibility, assisting the construction management team with construction oversight, commissioning, and closeout. You will work closely with the rest of the construction team and contractor base to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and build scalable, repeatable construction processes to expand our network.

Your leadership will drive site performance, uptime, and technical excellence, enabling seamless operations at scale. To ensure success in this role, you’ll ensure execution of processes, standards, and performance metrics that guide every stage of site activation and/or maintenance. You’ll proactively resolve issues before they impact operations, foster strong collaboration across construction, engineering, and operations teams. You will seek to improve workflows based on field feedback and data insights. As a Staff Wire Harness Engineer, you are the principal technical authority for the "nervous system" of our humanoid platform. You don't just design harnesses; you define the interconnect architecture that enables Apollo to move, sense, and think. This role requires a rare blend of deep electrical knowledge , mechanical integration, and strategic leadership. You will own the technical roadmap for power and data distribution, ensuring our systems are not only robust but also optimized for mass production and field serviceability.

Responsibilities

• Interconnect Architecture: Define the top-level electrical distribution strategy for the entire robot, including grounding schemes, shielding architecture, and power/data separation protocols.
• Joint-Crossing Lifecycle Leadership: Own the technical strategy for harness routing across high-DOF joints. Develop and validate mathematical models for cable life expectancy (millions of cycles) and select materials that survive extreme dynamic environments.
• Standardization & Tooling: Establish company-wide standards for E-CAD workflows, library management, and drawing requirements. Lead the selection and implementation of enterprise-level harness design software (e.g., Zuken E3, Capital).
• Cross-Functional System Design: Act as the primary technical bridge between EE, MechE, and Manufacturing. Lead high-level trade-off analyses regarding connector density vs. serviceability and mass vs. thermal performance.
• DfX: Drive Design for Excellence (DfX) initiatives to reduce harness complexity, part count, and assembly time. Evaluate and qualify advanced techniques like overmolding, ultrasonic welding, and custom busbars.
• Root Cause & Reliability: Lead failure analysis for the most complex system-level electrical issues. Use advanced diagnostic tools and DFMEAs to identify and mitigate "hidden" failure modes in signal integrity or power transients.
• Vendor & Supply Chain Strategy: Partner with Sourcing to vet and manage strategic harness manufacturing partners, ensuring our technical requirements are met during the transition from prototype to high-volume production.

Qualifications

About The Role:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job Purpose

The Senior Facilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring the manufacturing plant’s infrastructure, utilities, and building systems reliably support safe, efficient, and scalable production operations. This role is hands-on and plant-floor focused, directly enabling equipment uptime, production ramp, and layout changes as the facility moves from early production into steady-state manufacturing.

This position works closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and EHS to ensure the plant is always production ready.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Utilities & Infrastructure

• Own the performance, capacity, spend, and reliability of plant utilities including:
• Electrical power distribution and machine drops
• Compressed air, vacuum, and process gases
• HVAC, ventilation, dust/fume extraction, and heat rejection
• Process water, chilled water, and drainage
• Ensure utilities meet equipment specifications and production load requirements
• Troubleshoot utility-related production downtime and support root cause analysis

Production Equipment & Layout Support

• Support installation, relocation, and commissioning of production equipment
• Partner with Manufacturing Engineering on:
• Line layouts, workstation placement, and material flow
• Equipment moves and line rebalancing
• Ensure floor space, utilities, and safety systems are in place prior to equipment arrival

Production Ramp & Capacity Growth

• Plan and execute facility upgrades required for:
• Production volume increases
• New product introductions
• Additional shifts or extended run times
• Identify facility constraints that could limit throughput or uptime
• Develop phased facility expansion plans aligned to the production roadmap

Plant Maintenance & Reliability

• Establish and maintain preventive maintenance programs for:
• Electrical infrastructure
• HVAC and process utilities
• Building systems that impact production
• Support operations and maintenance teams during outages, shutdowns, and recovery events
• Drive improvements in uptime, response time, and mean time to repair (MTTR)
• Oversight of facility janitorial needs and vendor partners, including facility services repair

Safety, Compliance & Controls

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and local building codes
• Manage annual Fire Drill as well as the Red Wing vouchers for safety boots
• Inclement weather: Manage facility safety protocols and response actions during inclement weather to protect employees, visitors, and assets (e.g., salting walkways, backup power, etc.) 

• Maintain the OSHA Form 300 log and 300A summary

• Support machine safety systems, interlocks, and emergency infrastructure
• Champion safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions
• Ensure facility changes follow proper change control and risk assessment
• Ensure that all new hires are loaded into the Safety Skills platform and assign role-specific training courses

Capital Projects & Contractors

• Lead facility-related capital projects on the plant floor and partner with Manufacturing Engineering & Operations for their capital projects
• Develop scopes of work, RFQs, and installation plans
• Manage contractors during production and shutdown windows
• Ensure work is executed safely and does not disrupt manufacturing operations

Documentation & Standard Work

• Maintain up-to-date facility drawings, utility schematics, and load calculations
• Create standard work for facility response and equipment support
• Support continuous improvement efforts on the plant floor
