The Opportunity

As a Senior Process Engineer on the Eyepiece Process R&D team, you will lead the development and optimization of nanoimprint lithography (JFIL) processes critical to next-generation augmented reality displays. You will own process development from early-stage experimentation through transfer into manufacturing, ensuring scalability, repeatability, and yield performance.

This role is highly hands-on and sits at the intersection of R&D and production. You will work with advanced lithography equipment, develop and qualify new processes, and collaborate cross-functionally to bring cutting-edge light-field technology into production. Success in this role requires deep process expertise, strong experimental rigor, and the ability to translate R&D breakthroughs into robust manufacturing solutions.

Location: This position requires being fully on-site at our Austin, TX facility, to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.

What you’ll do

• Own the development and optimization of nanoimprint lithography (JFIL) processes for eyepiece fabrication
• Design and execute experiments (DOE) to improve process performance, yield, and defectivity
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced lithography and metrology equipment in a cleanroom environment
• Develop characterization methods and workflows to evaluate thickness, roughness, feature dimensions, transmission, and defectivity

The experience you bring

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience in nanoimprint lithography, semiconductor processing, nanofabrication, or related field
• BS or MS in physics, chemistry, engineering, or related field, or PhD in a relevant discipline
• Experience owning process development and optimization in an R&D and/or manufacturing environment
• Hands-on experience designing and executing DOEs and driving yield improvement
• Experience working with complex process and metrology equipment in a cleanroom environment
• Strong data analysis skills and experience with statistical tools (JMP, Python, or similar)
• Working knowledge of nanofabrication processes (lithography, etching, deposition, bonding, cleaning)
• Ability to translate experimental results into actionable process improvements
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment

The opportunity

The Staff R&D Process Engineer will play a critical role in developing and scaling advanced manufacturing processes for next-generation AR eyepiece technologies, with a primary focus on laser processing and singulation of glass and glass-like substrates. This position sits at the intersection of research and development and high-volume manufacturing.

You will own process development from early-stage exploration through production ramp, solving complex challenges in precision, yield, and scalability. • Own the development of laser-based processes for cutting, shaping, and finishing glass and glass-like substrates used in AR waveguides.

The opportunity 

The Principal Engineer, Equipment Spares & Service will define and lead the strategy for capital equipment spares, services, and sustainment across Magic Leap’s manufacturing and development operations.

This role owns a critical function at the intersection of supply chain, equipment engineering, and manufacturing, with direct impact on tool uptime, factory readiness, and cost. You will be responsible for building and scaling a spares and service model that supports high-volume manufacturing (HVM) at semiconductor standards. This is a highly visible, hands-on technical leadership role where you will architect the strategy and drive execution, partnering closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure reliable, cost-effective equipment performance across the installed base.

Travel requirement: approximately 75% during the first six months to support onsite ramp and implementation at our Plantation, FL headquarters, followed by 25–50% travel thereafter.

What you’ll do 

• Define and implement the end-to-end strategy for equipment spares and services across all operations
• Develop and execute spares planning, inventory optimization, and stocking strategies to mitigate downtime risk
• Establish and scale service models (OEM, in-house, or hybrid), including SLAs and performance management
• Own commercial relationships and contracts for spares, warranties, and service agreements
• Lead supplier engagement for spares provisioning, repair services, and long-term support programs
• Ensure equipment availability and uptime aligned to HVM manufacturing requirements
• Build and drive processes for order fulfillment, inventory management, and reverse logistics
• Partner with manufacturing leadership and tool owners to align service workflows and execution standards

• 12+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, equipment engineering, or equipment supply chain

• Experience supporting wafer fab and/or backend semiconductor manufacturing environments

The opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Manager, Metrology & Optical Test expert to lead a focused group of engineers in our waveguide manufacturing team. This leadership role involves overseeing all aspects of measurement, calibration, and instrumentation, including nanostructure characterization and optical performance testing for outgoing products. Responsibility spans across the organization, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and compliance are maintained to deliver on customer requirements. The ideal candidate will be a leader and player/coach with a deep technical understanding of metrology and optical test principles, quality systems, and advanced measurement equipment. This role is integral to advancing our Optics NPI and Manufacturing practices and will work closely with cross-functional design, process, materials, and integration teams.

What you’ll do 

• Strategy and Leadership:
  • Develop and implement the Optical NPI and Manufacturing metrology strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and quality standards.
  • Lead a small team of metrology and optics professionals, defining actionable goals, developing their professional growth, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Lead and develop best practices for problem solving (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.) and technical communication. 
  • Seamless integration of workflows across R&D, Manufacturing, NPI, and Materials team to deliver solutions to support manufacturing operations activities from early NPI through High Volume ramp.
  • Ownership of delivering clear, concise technical documentation and presentations, and building effective partnerships across teams and with external suppliers.
• Measurement and Optical Test Tools:
  • Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and verification of all measurement and test equipment (M&TE) to maintain traceability and compliance with national and international standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001).
  • Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all metrology and optical test processes, including measurement uncertainty analysis, gauge R&R studies, and calibration schedules.
  • Define, develop, budget, and qualify advanced testing/characterization techniques to deepen the fundamental understanding of waveguide materials, processes, and their impact on device performance. This includes recipe/configuration setups, statistical validation such as GR&R and matching studies, calibrated standards, golden unit creation,  long-term stability (LTS), and factory and site acceptance testing for new equipment.
• Technical Expertise and Support:
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert (SME) for all complex dimensional, mechanical, and electrical measurement challenges, providing technical guidance to cross-functional teams (e.g., R&D, Manufacturing, Quality).
  • Apply expertise in metrology, characterization, optics, and nanofabrication to support imprint and replication processes, wafer cleaning, plasma etch, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and metals deposition.
  • Establish project priorities and manage resources, ensuring efficient workflow across metrology (AFM, ellipsometry, interferometry, and other characterization equipment) and waveguide optical testers (for KPIs such as ANSI, MTF, Transmission, etc).
  • Analyze Interpret data from metrology equipment, including identification of potential measurement errors, tool variance, and tester to tester correlations. 
• Operations and Compliance:
  • Manage the departmental budget, including definition of capital equipment requirements and resource allocation.
  • Drive the selection, procurement, and implementation of new metrology and optical test technologies and software to enhance measurement capabilities and efficiency.
  • Act as the representative for all external audits related to metrology and optical test solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Quality department to ensure metrology practices support the company's Quality Management System (QMS).

The experience you bring

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. 
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in metrology, quality control, optical test, or precision manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role. Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in advanced materials characterization techniques.
• Technical Expertise:
  • In-depth knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Demonstrated expertise in measurement uncertainty budgets and calculations, sensitivity analysis, and variance analysis.
  • A strong statistical background and experience in large data set analysis using industry standard tools (e.g., JMP, R, Python, Matlab).
  • Proficiency with various measurement systems, including CMMs, optical scanners, vision systems, and conventional gauges.
  • Hands-on experience with materials and nanostructure characterization methods, including SEM, AFM, ellipsometry, interferometry, XRD, EDX, uXRF, FTIR, DSC, and TGA.
• Standards Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of relevant international quality and metrology standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025). Knowledge of statistical methods (MSA/GRR) and process improvement techniques.

The opportunity 

The Senior Manager of Equipment Engineering will be a critical leader responsible for multiple fabrication equipment modules and will play a key role in scaling manufacturing capability to support next-generation products. This role demands a strategic leader with deep experience in semiconductor equipment improvement who can effectively bridge the gap between process and yield. This Senior Manager of Equipment Engineering will ensure that fabrication equipment is available, producing high-quality products, and used efficiently.

• Develop and lead a world-class fabrication equipment team
• Influence design-for-manufacturability decisions in partnership with the development site and strategic sourcing/procurement
• Serve as the escalation point of contact/trade-off decision maker for all equipment-related issues

What you'll bring

• 10+ years of experience in FEOL semiconductor fabrication in equipment-focused roles
• Demonstrated deep expertise in one or more major FEOL modules such as  Litho, Etch, Metals, Cleans, and related metrology, with demonstrated leadership across multi-module environments
• Proven ability to manage and lead technical teams of engineers and maintenance technicians  
• Excellent communication, structured problem-solving, and team development skills, capable of setting expectations with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
• BS/MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or equivalent).

• Management of Vendor and related eco-systems, installation and quality new capacity, escalation SLAs, spare parts BOMs, total productive maintenance, reducing mean time to repair / failure

The opportunity 

As a Senior Equipment Engineering Technician (Etch) within our Manufacturing Engineering team, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing plasma etch systems that are essential to our waveguide manufacturing process. This is a highly hands-on role focused on maximizing tool uptime, resolving complex failures, and driving performance improvements in a cleanroom environment.

You will partner closely with Equipment Engineering, Process Engineering, and Operations teams to support high-volume manufacturing and ensure stable, repeatable tool performance.

What you’ll do 

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on plasma etch systems (Plasma-Therm or similar dry etch tools)
• Diagnose and resolve issues across vacuum systems, RF power delivery, gas flow systems, and plasma processes
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic subsystems, including motors, pumps, valves, sensors, and PLC-controlled systems
• Support tool recovery and uptime efforts, minimizing downtime in a high-volume manufacturing environment
• Execute and continuously improve preventive and corrective maintenance procedures
• Partner with Process and Equipment Engineers on tool optimization, experiments, and process stability improvements
• Analyze equipment performance data to identify root cause and recurring failure modes
• Support vendor interactions and escalations, including remote diagnostics and onsite service coordination
• Train and mentor junior technicians; develop SOPs and technical documentation
• Ensure compliance with cleanroom and safety protocols

What you'll bring

• 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment, with a strong preference for etch tools
• Direct experience with plasma etch systems (Plasma-Therm, Lam, Applied Materials, or similar)
• Strong understanding of vacuum systems, RF / plasma systems, gas delivery, and process tool integration
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems across electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic domains
• Experience with PLC systems, sensors, alarms, and system-level diagnostics
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, high-urgency manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with cleanroom operations and protocols
• Experience documenting maintenance and work orders in systems such as CMMS or equivalent

The opportunity 

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Industrial Engineer with a strong background in semiconductor factory automation and advanced manufacturing systems. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can bridge the gap between equipment, process, and data to drive highly efficient, automated production environments.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in semiconductor fabrication along with proficiency in Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS), such as Overhead Hoist Vehicles (OHV) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), as well as simulation and layout tools like FlexSim, AutoCAD, or equivalent.

This position is onsite in our Plantation, FL office. Relocation support may be available for qualified candidates. Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required to support cross-site collaboration, vendor engagement, and project execution.

What you’ll do 

• Optimize equipment utilization, WIP flow, and capacity planning.
• Partner with R&D, Quality, and Production teams to transition new processes into high-volume manufacturing.
• Support Kaizen activities, standard work documentation (SOPs, work instructions), and GMP compliance.
• Conduct time studies, value stream mapping, and OEE analysis to identify inefficiencies and drive improvements.
• Perform root-cause investigations and troubleshoot complex manufacturing and automation issues.
• Work directly with equipment vendors and contractors to implement solutions and support tool performance.
• Translate complex technical data into clear, executive-ready summaries and presentations.

What you'll need

• B.S. in Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in semiconductor or optics manufacturing, including automation projects.
• Proven experience with AMHS / OHV / AGV systems or related semiconductor automation technologies.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for layout and space optimization.
• Experience with FlexSim, Siemens Plant Simulation, or other discrete event simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of SPC, MSA, CPK, OEE, and DOE methodologies.
• Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher.
• Skilled in data analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, or Python for process modeling and statistical analysis.
• Hands-on cleanroom experience in semiconductor or optics environments.
• Familiarity with wet cleans, lithography, etching, or vacuum process tools.
• Experience developing automation layouts and data-driven process control strategies.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
