We are seeking an experienced HDD Firmware Architect to lead the architecture, design, and development of next-generation storage firmware solutions for enterprise and high-performance storage devices. This role is ideal for professionals with deep expertise in HDD and storage firmware, strong architectural skills, and hands-on experience building reliable, scalable firmware for mission-critical storage products.
As an HDD Firmware Architect, you will define firmware architecture, drive technical direction, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver high-performance storage solutions. You will play a key role in designing firmware frameworks, optimizing storage protocols, enhancing reliability, and ensuring seamless integration between hardware and software components. The position requires extensive knowledge of storage technologies, firmware development methodologies, and industry-standard interfaces such as SATA and NVMe.
You will work closely with hardware architects, firmware engineers, validation teams, and system architects to deliver innovative storage solutions that meet demanding performance, reliability, and scalability requirements while mentoring engineering teams and driving technical excellence across the organization.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Define and drive the overall architecture for HDD and storage firmware platforms.
- Design scalable, modular, and maintainable firmware frameworks for enterprise storage products.
- Lead firmware development for storage subsystems, data management, error recovery, and performance optimization.
- Architect and optimize storage solutions supporting SATA, NVMe, and related storage interfaces.
- Collaborate with hardware, ASIC, validation, and system engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Develop robust firmware designs that improve performance, reliability, power efficiency, and data integrity.
- Analyze system-level requirements and translate them into scalable firmware architectures.
- Review firmware designs, conduct architecture reviews, and establish engineering best practices.
- Drive debugging and root-cause analysis of complex firmware, hardware, and system-level issues.
- Optimize firmware for latency, throughput, reliability, and efficient resource utilization.
- Mentor firmware engineers and provide technical leadership across architecture and implementation activities.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps, innovation initiatives, and continuous improvement of storage firmware platforms.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 9+ years of experience in HDD Firmware, Storage Firmware, or embedded storage systems development.
- Strong expertise in storage architectures, firmware design, and embedded software development using C/C++.
- Hands-on experience with storage interfaces such as SATA, NVMe, SAS, or related storage protocols.
- Deep understanding of storage device architecture, data management, command processing, caching, and performance optimization.
- Experience designing scalable firmware architectures for enterprise storage products.
- Strong knowledge of embedded systems, RTOS concepts, memory management, multitasking, and device drivers.
- Experience with debugging complex firmware issues using hardware and software diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with storage validation, firmware verification, and system integration processes.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or Perl for automation is an advantage.
- Excellent analytical, architectural, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and mentor engineering teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with experience working in cross-functional product development environments.
