The Video Producer leads and supports the university's video production initiatives, resources, and creative standards. Serving as the university's lead video producer and creative video consultant, the incumbent develops, captures, edits, and delivers high-quality video content that advances institutional brand, marketing, and communications objectives.

The position manages a diverse portfolio of projects from concept through final delivery, collaborating with colleagues, internal clients, student interns, campus stakeholders, freelance editors, and external production partners. Responsibilities include creative direction, project management, budget oversight, production planning, and the stewardship of the university's video standards and archival assets. The incumbent serves as a strategic creative contributor to the development and execution of university brand and promotional campaigns, helping to translate institutional priorities into compelling visual storytelling that drives awareness, reputation, and revenue objectives.

The incumbent establishes and maintains the visual, storytelling, and production standards that define the university's institutional video presence, ensuring that work produced by internal teams, external partners, and student creators aligns with the university's brand identity, mission, values, and goals.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

1. Provide creative leadership for the university's video storytelling and visual standards
Serve as the university's lead authority for creative video content, establishing and maintaining standards for storytelling, cinematography, editing, visual identity integration, production quality, and audience engagement. Produce and direct marquee university video initiatives that define and advance the institution's brand and communications objectives. Develop creative frameworks and best practices that can be adapted and implemented by campus partners, external agencies, freelance collaborators, student interns, and other content creators to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment across the university's broader video ecosystem.

2. Produce and manage assigned video productions
Serve as producer and project manager for assigned video initiatives, managing all phases of production from concept development through final delivery. Establish creative direction, and develop project scope, schedule, budget, and production plans; coordinate logistics; capture and edit video content; and oversee post-production activities to ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with intended outcomes. Deliver professional, distribution-ready video content that supports university initiatives, events, and institutional priorities.

3. Direct and manage video projects utilizing external production partners
Coordinate projects that require outside agencies, production companies, independent producers, or specialized production resources. Source, evaluate, and engage external creative and technical partners, including camera operators, sound engineers, lighting technicians, editors, colorists, motion graphics artists, and other production professionals as appropriate. Facilitate pre-production planning, review creative briefs and scripts, provide creative direction, and ensure external partners deliver work that meets university objectives, brand standards, budgets, and timelines.

4. Manage the university's video archive and b-roll asset library
Maintain and organize the university's video assets within its digital asset management systems, including b-roll, institutional footage, and other reusable content. Establish metadata, tagging, archiving, storage, and retrieval practices that ensure video resources remain timely, accessible, well organized, and available to support future communications, marketing, and promotional initiatives.

5. Lead the university video student intern program
Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise student interns engaged in professional video production assignments in response to university video requests. Provide hands-on learning opportunities that enable students to develop technical, creative, and client service skills while contributing meaningfully to actual institutional projects and deliverables. Assign, direct, and oversee student work from concept through final delivery, ensuring that all productions meet established quality, storytelling, and brand standards.

6. Collaborate with the Associate Director of Social Media to support social video initiatives
Partner with the Director of Social Media and other university stakeholders to support social media video projects as assigned. Provide creative consultation, production expertise, and video assets that advance platform-specific storytelling objectives while maintaining alignment with university brand standards and strategic communications priorities.

7. Collaborate with the production coordinator and university partners to develop effective video solutions
Partner with the production coordinator, internal clients, and external stakeholders to support university video initiatives from concept through delivery. Provide creative and technical consultation on storytelling approaches, production methods, and communications objectives, applying industry best practices to recommend solutions that align with institutional priorities, audience needs, and brand standards. Contribute to project planning to ensure successful outcomes across a diverse range of university video assignments.

8. Establish and maintain video production standards and best practices
Develop, recommend, and implement guidelines related to video production, post-production workflows, visual identity integration, technical specifications, accessibility, and storytelling standards to ensure consistency and quality across university video content.

9. Perform other duties as assigned or requested by leadership.

The incumbent must possess the ability to supervise creative, communications, and technical personnel and manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, budgets, deadlines, and external resources. The position requires the application of marketing and communications principles in the development and execution of video initiatives and the ability to develop creative concepts, evaluate outcomes, and recommend improvements that support professional standards and institutional objectives.

The incumbent must demonstrate strong relationship management, collaboration, and consensus-building skills while working effectively and independently with internal and external constituents. Success in this role requires sound judgment, initiative, strategic thinking, and the ability to understand client needs and translate them into compelling visual storytelling solutions.

Requisite Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is required. Degrees in film and television production, digital media production, communications, journalism, marketing, or related disciplines are preferred. The incumbent is expected to maintain and expand professional knowledge and skills to remain current with emerging technologies, industry best practices, and evolving trends in video production, digital storytelling, and visual communications.

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience producing, coordinating, and managing video projects and assignments. Experience working within higher education, nonprofit organizations, or other complex, mission-driven institutions is a plus but not required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard production and post-production tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and related Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Experience with professional camera systems, lighting, audio equipment, and digital asset management systems is required.

  • Experience producing video content for integrated marketing, advertising, and digital media campaigns is preferred. Demonstrated ability to develop short-form, audience-focused video assets that support brand awareness, engagement, and strategic communications objectives is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the creative development process and project management methodologies, including concept development, script review, production planning, budgeting, stakeholder management, and the evaluation of creative outcomes against strategic objectives.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience providing creative consultation, articulating strategic recommendations, collaborating across functional teams, and building consensus among diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and delivering high levels of customer service within collaborative, service-oriented environments.

  • Highly developed organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing needs, and deliver high-quality work under deadline.

  • Experience working within large or complex organizations that employ structured approval processes, cross-functional collaboration, and enterprise service models is preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively and independently with creative, communications, technical, and administrative professionals to accomplish shared goals and deliver successful projects.

  • Some evening and weekend hours are required on occasions of peak production.

Salary range

$90,000.00 - $95,000.00 Salary commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
