The Position

Under the direction of Organon Cross Functional Expert Lead: SAP Vertex Indirect Tax Architect is responsible for providing SAP functional and technical support to Organon Finance, Supply and Tax users. The role requires a solid understanding of SAP FI/CO and Tax related customizing, as well as configuration knowledge and expertise in Vertex On Demand 9.0 Accelerator / LCRD tool, Compliance reporting, including integration points to Coupa for indirect procurement, as well as SAP MM and SD modules. Expert level knowledge of accounting principles is important. Hands on implementation experience of Vertex software and related components is extremely important as well as the ability to troubleshoot issues related to Indirect Tax. Deep knowledge of complex flows within the Pharma industry including plants abroad, tri-trade, quad-trade, intercompany service billing concepts are key for this role.

This position requires deep functional & application knowledge, the ability to work independently with very little hand holding and with technical support and cross functional (STS / OTC) teams. Experience in SAP S4 HANA environment is necessary. The individual should ensure that design and development of systems meet specifications and requirements of Organon’s overall business needs. The role will be within Business Technology and have oversight over system configuration changes, also ensuring that Compliance requirements as far as documentation and testing standards are strictly adhered to.

Support the Cross-Functional Process Expert Lead by designing, governing, and improving end-to-end (E2E) processes across domains. Ensure process harmonization, standardization, and smooth cross-system handoffs across ERP and enterprise data platforms.

Responsibilities

• As a Cross Functional Expert: Indirect Tax, the candidate would serve as a subject matter expert to guide technology strategy for Tax Design and configure native tax processes to SAP S/4HANA ecosystem and integrating Vertex, addressing both input and output tax requirements.

• Collaborate with business partners to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications

• Ensure the SAP S/4HANA and SAP Document and Reporting compliance solution configured meets business goals and leading practices

• Conduct architectural reviews and assessments to identify potential risks and recommend mitigations

• Align process standards with XLAs, business KPIs, and compliance requirements. Assess process impacts across ERP and data platforms. Maintain a cross-system dependency matrix for E2E processes. Provide impact analysis for upcoming changes, releases, and cross-functional initiatives. Enforce modelling standards, naming conventions, and process policies.

• Ensure proper approvals, documentation quality, and compliance with enterprise controls. Maintain the enterprise process repository and ensure consistent version management. Collaborate with Product Owners, Architecture, Data Governance, and Operations teams.

Required Education, Experience And Skills

• 7-10+ years relevant functional and technical experience in Indirect taxes, specifically SAP FI/CO, Tax bolt on Vertex 9.0, Chain flow Accelerator tool, LCRD tool, Vendor reconciliation tool. Configuration knowledge as well as hands on practical experience in troubleshooting issues is a requirement.

• Strong knowledge and background in Accounting.

• Experience in implementing and configuring SAP Document and Reporting Compliance modules such as e-invoicing/Reporting, withholding tax, and real-time reporting

• Work with the Business Owners / Users and IT Team members to analyze, test, and implement solutions to meet business requirements driven by the TAX team.

• Work on Tax requirement changes as needed; try to stay current with Indirect and WHT tax rule changes in different countries.

• Excellent facilitation and cross-functional alignment capabilities.

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate, communicate and coordinate with business and IT stakeholders.
