About the Role

IEX is looking for a Software Engineer to join the team building and supporting the high-performance Java systems that deliver accurate, reliable equities market data from the exchange to the broader market. 

This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems in a fast-paced market environment. Prior market data or trading experience is helpful but not required. 

What You’ll Do 

• Design, build, and maintain Core Java applications that support IEX’s market data publishing systems.
• Contribute to application frameworks, messaging APIs, data structures, reliability, and recovery mechanisms.
• Build and support distributed systems that process and publish high-volume, real-time market data.
• Participate across the software development lifecycle, including development, testing, build and deployment processes, packaging, and dependency management.
• Partner with Product to define and develop the future state of market data publishing systems within the Equities business.
• Help support systems across the exchange, including market data, order entry, post-trade processing, monitoring, and reporting.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. 

Your Background 

• 3+ years of professional Java development experience, ideally supporting high-performance, real-time, or low-latency systems.
• Strong understanding of core Java concepts, including multithreading, concurrency, data structures, and application design.
• Familiarity with network programming and distributed systems concepts. 
• Comfort working with lower-level programming concepts, including bit shifting and signed versus unsigned data types. 
• Experience working in a Linux environment. 
• Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach to working across technical and operational teams.
• Comfortable debugging and supporting production systems.
• Nice to Have
  • Experience with electronic trading systems, including FIX Protocol, market data feeds, or SIP feeds.
  • C++ experience.
  • KDB+ experience.
  • Experience using Codex or other AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Familiarity with Python, Shell, or other scripting languages. 

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting annual base pay is between $150,000 and $175,000 for this NY-based position. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The annual base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for bonus and equity.
