Okta Identity Governance is Okta's Identity Governance and Administration solution, responsible for some of the most critical and visible workflows in enterprise identity: how people request access, how approvers grant it, how entitlements are enforced, and how organizations prove to auditors that only the right people have the right access.

Okta Identity Governance is the leading contributor to Okta's new product bookings, and it runs inside some of the largest enterprises in the world — the kind of accounts where a single tenant carries hundreds of thousands of identities across thousands of applications.

Quality here is a compliance bar, not just a user experience one. When a governance product has a defect, a company can stay over-provisioned on access it believes it revoked, or hand an auditor evidence that isn't true.

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test Opportunity

As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, you'll own quality for medium-sized features on your scrum team, and co-own larger ones, from the first design review through release and into production. You'll turn the team's test strategy into test plans, write the automation, and hold the release bar for features that have to work at enterprise scale — long-running certification campaigns, tenants with millions of entitlements, dozens of third-party connectors, and audit records that must be provably correct.

You'll work alongside developers as an engineer, not a gatekeeper: reviewing designs and code, building the tools that make coverage cheap, and turning every escaped defect into automation that keeps it from coming back.

What You'll Be Doing

• Review requirements and design specs, and write test plans that your scrum team reviews and builds against
• Join architecture and design reviews early so testability and risk analysis shape the feature before it's built
• Automate at every layer — API, integration, end-to-end, and UI — and wire it into continuous integration as deterministic release gates
• Build scale, performance, and reliability tests for large-tenant campaigns, bulk entitlement operations, and high-volume imports
• Validate data integrity across systems: access that was revoked stays revoked, and audit reports match what actually happened
• Review application code, find weak spots, and build tools and frameworks that make future coverage faster to add
• Review teammates' code and tests with an eye on reliability, performance, and security, and share what you learn across the team
• Troubleshoot complex issues across services, and improve how the team works — documentation, CI/CD, monitoring, and support processes
• Keep critical features fully automated so the team ships with zero test debt, and hunt down flaky tests
• Work with engineering management to scope and plan quality work across the team
• Partner with product managers, designers, and site reliability engineers to understand the business outcome behind each feature, including non-functional requirements
• Respond to production issues, alerts, and customer escalations during on-call rotation, and turn root causes into lasting automated coverage
• Advocate for the customer: work with field and customer success teams on customer issues, know how the largest tenants use the product and make sure those flows never break

What You'll Bring To The Role

• 5+ years in software engineering in test or quality engineering, ideally for enterprise software-as-a-service products
• 5+ years building test automation in Java; Python or TypeScript is a plus
• Hands-on experience with API automation (REST, gRPC) and UI automation (Playwright, Selenium, or equivalent)
• Experience with performance and load testing tools (JMeter, Gatling, Locust, or equivalent)
• Experience with continuous integration (CircleCI or equivalent), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and a major cloud platform such as AWS
• Experience testing distributed, multi-tenant systems at scale, including asynchronous and event-driven workflows
• Comfort using logs and monitoring (Splunk or equivalent) to debug failures in test and production
• The ability to write and review designs and code with other engineers, and to deliver well-designed, high-quality code on time
• A track record of owning medium-sized features end to end and troubleshooting complex issues with little guidance
• Strong test planning skills and a track record of working with product, design, and operations partners

• Identity Governance and Administration — access requests, certifications, entitlement management, separation of duties, or role modeling (Okta, SailPoint, Saviynt, One Identity, Oracle, or in-house)
• Identity and access management more broadly: single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, or directory integration
• Integrations with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Salesforce, Active Directory, or LDAP
• Testing in a compliance context — SOX, SOC 2, ISO 27001, or FedRAMP — including audit evidence validation
• Using AI tools or agents to speed up test creation, triage, or maintenance
