Provide premium DB2 application DBA support and services to Ensono mainframe clients as they relate to Mainframe DB2 systems.  The successful candidate will perform database creation, development, administration and tuning to support our clients’ development, test and production databases. The individual will be responsible for day-to-day database maintenance such as creating backups, performing restores, monitoring file extent growth, scheduling reorganizations, creating and maintaining DR procedures and overall support of client needs and requests.  The successful candidate will be called upon to perform a variety of database optimizations that will include general reporting and analysis of the efficiency of the database configuration and periodic review of database performance.

Job role - We are seeking a Db2 Data Engineer to join our Db2 Reliability Pod, a team focused on engineering resilient, highly available, and recoverable data platforms. This role is responsible for designing and automating reliability capabilities that ensure critical Db2-based services remain available, recoverable, and scalable. 

Unlike a traditional Db2 Database Administrator (DBA) role, this position focuses on platform engineering, resilience, automation, observability, and data replication architecture, rather than routine database administration activities. The role aligns with reliability initiatives involving high availability, failover, replication, disaster recovery, and operational readiness.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Design and engineer high-availability, disaster recovery, and data replication solutions for Db2 environments. 

• Develop automated resiliency capabilities, including failover, recovery, validation, and operational workflows. 

• Build and maintain data movement and replication frameworks that ensure data integrity and consistency across environments. 

• Create observability solutions, dashboards, monitoring, and reliability metrics to proactively detect and prevent service disruptions. 

• Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis, reliability engineering practices, and platform modernization. 

• Develop Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, and self-service capabilities to reduce operational effort and improve scalability. 

• Partner with application, infrastructure, cloud, and database teams to establish resilient end-to-end data services. 

• Support disaster recovery exercises, failover testing, and operational readiness planning through documented procedures and runbooks.  

Required Qualifications 

• Experience with IBM Db2 and enterprise data platforms. 

• Strong understanding of data replication, high availability, disaster recovery, and data resilience patterns. 

• Proficiency in SQL and one or more scripting/programming languages such as Python or Shell. 

• Experience with automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools. 

• Knowledge of monitoring, observability, and operational excellence practices. 

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. 

• Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles. 

• Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, Data Replication techniques, and data streaming technologies. 

• Familiarity with large-scale production environments supporting mission-critical business services.
