SMX is seeking an experienced Field SATCOM & Network Technician to support geographically distributed satellite communications (SATCOM) and network systems within the PACOM Area of Responsibility (AOR). This role requires expertise in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and logistics of SATCOM networks, as well as the ability to deploy to multiple sites on short notice. The successful candidate will provide technical assistance, logistics coordination, and security oversight to ensure mission readiness and support expeditionary communication requirements
This position requires an active DoW TS/SCI clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoW contracts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot geographically distributed SATCOM and network systems to ensure continuous, reliable operation
- Deploy to various locations within the PACOM AOR to provide technical expertise on tactical SATCOM systems, including Ka, Ku, X, L, and UHF SATCOM solutions
- Perform Tier-1 Help Desk functions, supporting SATCOM and mission operations networks and associated hardware
- Serve as the on-site Security Officer and Communications Security Responsible Officer (COMSEC CRO), managing physical security and cryptographic key material for secure communications
- Conduct site surveys and evaluations for power, cooling, site suitability, and program security requirements
- Manage site logistics, including inventories and equipment shipments, utilizing both military and commercial shipping resources
- Train and support end-users on SATCOM/network operations, troubleshooting, best practices, and field deployment procedures
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and field-based instruction materials
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies, SATCOM/network security protocols, and operational requirements
- Document and report site and signal surveys for presentation to government stakeholders
- Engage in physically demanding activities, including the lifting and transport of equipment up to 75 lbs
- Support mission-critical operations, which may require working extended hours, night shifts, and weekends
- Travel within the INDOCPACOM region to support distributed sites for up to ten days per deployment
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of field experience supporting expeditionary communications (e.g., SOF, Combat Communications, tactical communications units)
- DoW active TS/SCI security clearance
- Extensive knowledge of tactical and strategic SATCOM, including expertise with military satellite terminals and small form factor systems
- Proficient in using test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, and oscilloscopes; experience with software-defined radios and signal recording tools
- Strong background in RF propagation, SATCOM link troubleshooting, and network protocols (TCP/IP, QoS, VLANs)
- Demonstrated experience in COMSEC and cryptographic handling for secure communications
- Logistics coordination experience using military and commercial methods for equipment transport
- Physically and mentally capable of deploying on short notice to austere environments for site/signal surveys and mission support
- Ability to train personnel, produce SOPs, and deliver field-based instruction; adept at documenting technical reports
- Thorough understanding of DoD cybersecurity policies, STIG compliance, and network security best practices
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 lbs
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours and travel frequently within the PACOM AOR
- Ability to pass required medical and security screenings for deployment to DoD operational theaters
Desired Skills & Experience
- Security+ or Network+ certification (DoD 8140 compliant)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or comparable networking certification
- Experience with Linux operating systems and custom mission capabilities
- Formal satellite communications training (SDN, SNAP, VSAT, etc)
- Proficiency with Office 365 applications, including Visio
- Previous experience using Jira, Confluence, or SharePoint for workflow and documentation management
