Culture is at the heart of everything we do at SLC and we are guided by our five values which help make SLC a great place to work:

  • Honesty: We act with integrity and transparency, sharing information openly and addressing challenges with courage.

  • Empowerment: We enable people to take initiative, make impactful decisions, and continuously learn and grow.

  • Accountability: We deliver on commitments, own our successes and mistakes, and strive for quality outcomes.

  • Respect: We value diverse perspectives, actively listen, and create an inclusive environment where everyone belongs.

  • Trust: We collaborate across teams, build dependable relationships, and work as one to deliver for our customers.

About the Role

As a People Policy Advisor, you'll help shape the policies, guidance and knowledge resources that underpin the colleague and manager experience across SLC, ensuring they remain relevant, accessible and aligned to the needs of a changing organisation. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you'll take ownership of reviewing, developing and refining people policies, drawing on employment legislation, emerging best practice and organisational priorities to inform your recommendations.

Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll contribute to how people policy supports strategic objectives, legislative change and the consistent application of people practices. You'll be confident operating independently, building relationships and using your judgement to identify opportunities for policy improvement while balancing business needs, colleague experience and compliance requirements. You'll also play an important role in helping managers understand and apply people policies effectively, ensuring they have the guidance, resources and confidence needed to make informed people decisions and deliver a consistent colleague experience.

A key focus of the role will be driving improvements in the colleague and manager experience through the development of modern, accessible and digitally enabled policy and knowledge resources. You'll help identify innovative ways to provide clear, reliable information, making it easier for colleagues and managers to access the guidance they need, when they need it. Through consultation, insight and relationship building, you'll influence how policies evolve and contribute to a more inclusive and user-focused approach to people policy. This includes supporting the development of practical guidance, learning resources and knowledge content that build capability, improve colleague and manager understanding, and enable greater self-service across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a genuine interest in employment law, people policy and organisational change who enjoys taking ownership of their work and can quickly become a trusted advisor within a varied stakeholder environment. You'll have the scope to make a visible impact on how colleagues and managers experience and engage with people policies across SLC while contributing to a significant programme of organisational change

Please note that this role is offered on a 12month fixed term basis.

What you Bring:

  • Previous experience of policy writing and application
  • Ability to demonstrate relationship building with experience of engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Experience effectively working remotely and as part of a team
  • Current working knowledge of employment law and People/HR management underpinned by legislative requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate sensitive issues effectively, tactfully and with empathy
  • Basic stakeholder management skills, including the ability to collate a diverse range of feedback and differing opinions
  • Time management and organisational skills, including a proven ability to plan, prioritise and progress work at pace to deadlines
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to collate, interpret and analyse data, using a variety of methods to effectively engage and influence internal and external stakeholders

You can expect more from a career with SLC. We support colleagues to unlock their potential through our Career Pathways development programme and offer an excellent benefit and rewards package that includes:
