Job Description:
Facilities Management, Research, is seeking a full-time Research Materials Handler that will work in and out of research laboratories and between various research buildings at ASU. As the Research Materials Handler, you should be self-motivated, and a time-orientated person who can deal with various types of personalities in a professional setting.
Essential Duties:
Use knowledge of shipping and receiving dangerous goods, chemicals, biologicals, gasses, and CDC controlled Select Agent program
Use knowledge of handling USPS and intercampus mail, small packages, freight, chemicals, biologicals, lab equipment, supplies, gas cylinders (inert, toxic & flammable), liquid nitrogen.
Inspect deliveries for recipient name, notating damages, keeping goods in their controlled setting, dealing with biological sample containers, chemicals, lab supplies, lab equipment and taking delivery piece counts.
Take part in the inventory control process for delivering items to the labs and keeping metrics.
Take part in the sustainability and recycling processes and expectations of ASU.
Drive a transport cart, a facility van, and/or a forklift at times
Travel across campus to other research buildings as required
Interface with ASU EHS, ASU Gas Services, Matheson Gas, Mission Linens, Air Gas, ASU Central Receiving, ASU Mail Services, ASU Recycling/Zero Waste, and other various ASU Departments as well as, UPS, FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, DHL, World Courier, freight companies, and various vendors.
Effective Communication.
Drive University vehicle.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This position is based at ASU’s Tempe campus but will require working from other campuses depending on operational needs.
Rate of Pay:
$20.24 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Automated or computerized system operation.
Record keeping practices.
Safety practices
Experience in:
Lifting heavy packages and objects up to 50 lbs
Operating a forklift or other materials handling equipment.
Operating large vehicles in tight and congested areas.
Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
Working Environment:
Drive University vehicles long and short distances, driving on ASU campuses, often in high pedestrian traffic
Working in and out of ASU buildings and laboratories
Standing for long periods of time
Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, box trucks, lift gates, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or dollies to move stock, furniture, or reorganize storage
Utilize computerized or automated systems to accomplish tasks (e.g. MS office)
Climb ladders and stairs with heavy materials
May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).

This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39-month period from date of hire.
Must possess fork lift certification, or be able to obtain, within six months of employment.
