Radio-Canada Toronto is looking for a Videojournalist who will primarily be assigned to proposing and producing digital content. We are looking for a versatile individual who can tell stories, both in writing and in vertical video or any other innovative format.
This is a full-time permanent position: three (3) weekdays and two (2) weekend days.
The selected candidate must be able to gather news using a smartphone or a hybrid camera. They will conduct their own research, writing, and formatting to present their material across our various platforms.
They will demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, rigor, and autonomy. They must also demonstrate an excellent ability to simplify complex information and be able to work under pressure.
The ideal candidate possesses the following qualities:
- Strong reporting skills.
- Ability to provide original story ideas and creative ways to cover them.
- Knowledge of demographics and major current affairs in Toronto and Southern Ontario.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse sources.
- Gather information from a variety of sources.
- Analyze facts and information, and draw conclusions or identify issues requiring deeper investigation.
- Establish a list of shots and sequences that serve to set the tone and mood for reports.
- Prepare, adjust, set up, and operate smartphones, hybrid cameras, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring optimal visual, audio, and technical quality under the circumstances.
- Understanding of new media and audience consumption habits.
- Ensure produced material meets technical and aesthetic editing standards.
- Edit recorded elements using appropriate or available editing systems.
- Flexibility to contribute regularly across television, radio, and the web.
- Excellent interpersonal relation skills.
- Creativity in problem-solving.
- Able to drive a motor vehicle as part of job duties.
This role requires full-time on-site presence.
Your Profile:
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to a university degree plus three (3) years of practical and relevant field experience, or a college diploma plus five (5) years of practical and relevant field experience.
- Excellent reporting and interviewing skills, both written for digital media and for electronic media.
- Comfortable presenting live.
- Solid command of French (working language).
- Excellent knowledge of English is an asset.
- Knowledge of Radio-Canada Journalistic Standards and Practices.
- Ability to work with diverse teams while demonstrating high autonomy.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work under high stress levels in a tight deadline environment.
- Experience working on multiple files simultaneously.
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a public broadcaster.
- Knowledge of internal production tools is an asset: Dalet, Media Central, iNews, Scoop, Hindenburg, Adobe Premiere.
- Experience as a videojournalist is an asset.
- Possess a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Radio-Canada's criteria.
