Senior Communication Specialist (Marketing)

Are you a vibrant community connector, strategic digital marketer, and creative brand storyteller? CBC/Radio-Canada B.C. is seeking an energetic Senior Communications Specialist to drive marketing and communications across local digital, radio, TV and streaming programming. Based in Kelowna and working with a remote Communications team, you will strengthen local engagement internally and externally, expand CBC’s reach, and build authentic connections across B.C.’s Interior. This position reports to the regional Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, and requires someone with a passion for CBC, an authentic joy for engaging with people, and a willingness to entertain a diversity of thought and connections.

The position is on-site in Kelowna, B.C. with the option for hybrid work after 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Engagement: Lead local outreach, events, and strategic partnerships in line with strategy in B.C.’s Interior to establish CBC as relevant to young, diverse, and underrepresented audiences.
  • Integrated Marketing: Develop and execute multi-platform marketing plans (social, digital, radio, TV) to promote CBC programming and strategic brand priorities.
  • Digital and Social Strategy: Build creative social media campaigns, manage business channels, run paid ad strategies, and analyze metrics to optimize performance and broaden reach.
  • Campaign and Event Management: Manage campaigns and internal/external events (in-person and virtual) from initial concept through execution, performance tracking, and post-campaign analysis.
  • Content and Creative Support: Plan and execute photo shoots, create promotional concepts, and write high-quality copy tailored across diverse platforms and target audiences.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal and external teams to align campaigns, cultivate key relationships, and advance organizational priorities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Cultural Connection: Deep passion for inclusion, diversity, and community building. Demonstrated connection to and knowledge of Indigenous audiences is a strong asset.
  • Experience: 6+ years in communications, public relations, or marketing, backed by a post-secondary degree/diploma in a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Digital and Media Knowledge: Strong expertise in social media marketing, content management platforms, paid advertising, and data analytics.
  • Event Planning: Proven track record organizing virtual and in-person events.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Google Suite and Adobe design software (print and digital specs).
  • Communications and Writing: Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills, alongside strong interpersonal judgement and project management abilities.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license meeting CBC/Radio-Canada insurance standards.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across B.C.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate occasional evenings, weekends, and holiday work as operational needs require.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
