Reporting to the Senior Product Manager , the Senior Product Owner is a dedicated role responsible for representing customer interests during the agile application development process.  The Senior Product Owner works with Product Managers who have defined features and translates their product vision into production reality.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:

The Payments Product Owner will be accountable for delivering the following outcomes and artefacts:

Requirements & Backlog Management

• Well-defined and prioritised product backlog.
• Epics, features, user stories and acceptance criteria ready for development.
• Functional and non-functional requirements for payment processing, clearing, settlement and integration capabilities.
• Regular backlog grooming and release planning activities.
• Delivery of third-party integrations including: Core banking systems Fraud screening providers Sanctions screening solutions FX providers Regulatory and compliance services Customer channels and digital banking platforms
• API and integration requirements to support scalable, secure and reusable services.
• Impact assessments and prioritised requirements for payment scheme updates.
• Coordination with Compliance, Risk and Operations teams to ensure timely implementation of regulatory changes.

Agile Delivery

• Successful execution of sprint planning, refinement and release activities.
• Timely decision-making and clarification of requirements for engineering teams.
• Validation of delivered functionality against business objectives and acceptance criteria.

Stakeholder & Customer Engagement

• Regular engagement with customers, implementation teams, operations, sales and engineering stakeholders.
• Customer feedback analysis and prioritisation recommendations.
• Product demonstrations, roadmap presentations and release communications.

Documentation & Governance

• Product requirement documents (PRDs).
• Solution and integration requirement specifications.
• Release notes, customer-facing documentation and implementation guidance.
• Product performance dashboards and executive status reporting.

Required Experience: 6 -8Years

Payments & Banking Domain Expertise:

• Strong knowledge of payment processing, clearing and settlement workflows.
• Experience working with payment rails such as ACH, Fedwire, RTP, FedNow, SWIFT, SEPA, or equivalent domestic and cross-border payment systems.
• Understanding of payment lifecycle management, investigations, exceptions, reconciliation, fees, FX, compliance, and fraud screening.
• Familiarity with banking operations, payment hubs, and transaction processing platforms.

Third-Party Integration Experience

• Proven experience working with third-party providers and banking ecosystems, including: Core banking systems Fraud and AML solutions Sanctions screening platforms FX providers Regulatory and compliance services Payment network gateways
• Ability to define, prioritise, and manage integration requirements across multiple internal and external systems.

Technical Knowledge

• Working knowledge of modern software architectures and technology concepts, including: SaaS and cloud-based platforms Microsoft Azure or other cloud environments REST APIs and web services Event-driven and microservices architectures Enterprise integration patterns Message queues and middleware ISO 20022 payment messaging standards
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and translate business requirements into technical deliverables.

Product Ownership & Agile Delivery

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst.
• Strong backlog management, requirements gathering, story writing, and prioritisation skills.
• Experience creating epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Ability to balance customer needs, regulatory requirements, technical constraints, and business priorities.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with payment hubs, digital payments platforms, or banking software products.
• Experience with cloud-native SaaS products deployed on Azure.
• Knowledge of Open Banking, APIs, and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS).
• Certifications such as CSPO, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, AAP, or equivalent.
