Chemistry Lab Assistant
Part-Time | Approximately 19.5 hours per week
Under the direction of the Chemistry Lab Supervisor, the primary purpose of this position is to apply technical knowledge and laboratory experience in order to assist the short and long term functions of the chemistry laboratories. To attain these goals, the candidate will coordinate and implement the set-up of student laboratory exercises, in support of all courses within the Chemistry Area of the STEM Department, including chemical solution preparation and analysis, hazardous waste handling, and assisting with the training and direction of student workers in the absence of the Chemistry Lab Supervisor.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Apply technical knowledge and experience to support the day to day operations of the Chemistry Laboratory, under the supervision of the Chemistry Lab Supervisor.
Assist with the set-up and breakdown of laboratory experiments.
Assist with preparing and standardizing chemical solutions to keep up with a high demand.
Assist with the training of student workers.
Direct and guide student workers when the Lab Supervisor is off-site.
Apply technical knowledge, experience and safety training to make responsible decisions in the laboratory.
Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the laboratories and supplies.
Assist with planning student workload to prioritize lab duties efficiently.
Assist with calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Assist with maintaining inventories of, and proper handling and storage of, chemical reagents.
Safely handle hazardous materials and waste, and follow protocols for safe disposal under the direction of the Lab Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
1 to 3 years experience working in a Chemistry laboratory preferred; hands-on laboratory experience may be considered.
Ability to communicate in written and oral form, and work well with others in a team environment.
Highly organized and proactive with the ability to work independently and prioritize in a fast paced environment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
HOURLY RATE $24.2818 - -$25.9815 (commensurate with experience)

Employment with the College will require successful completion of background check(s) and a pre-placement physical in accordance with College's policies.
