Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is: Our client is an Australian digital learning and technology company specialising in creating engaging, interactive online learning experiences. Since 2014, they have been helping organisations turn complex information into practical, memorable and enjoyable digital learning through a combination of instructional design, interactive technology, video, animation and custom software.
The business is currently expanding its development team to support the continued growth of its software products, including a digital learning marketplace and a learning creation platform.
Role Overview: This is a hands-on full stack development role for someone who is comfortable stepping into an existing codebase, understanding how it works, and improving it without needing everything to be rebuilt from scratch.
You'll work across the MERN stack, including Node.js, Express, MongoDB, Mongoose, React, Redux and Next.js. The role spans several React generations, from older Create React App code through to React 18, React 19 and Next.js 16.
For the right candidate, there is potential for long-term ongoing development work as the products continue to evolve.
Key Responsibilities:
The developer will own features end to end, from the MongoDB model through the Express API to the React screen, inside codebases they did not write.
- Take ownership of development work from the MongoDB data model through the Express API to the React front end
- Take over and become familiar with the existing codebase developed by 3rd Digital
- Get applications running locally and understand how the different repositories, environments and services fit together
- Document setup, architecture, processes and technical decisions as you learn the system
- Build and fix features in Genesis, TMRW's learning creation platform
- Develop functionality within Genesis's drag-and-drop learning editor using React and related libraries
- Build and maintain interactive learning objects such as flip cards, hotspots, accordions, video, 3D and parallax components
- Maintain the SCORM 1.2 export and preview functionality so published courses work correctly within clients' learning management systems
- Contribute to SensAI, TMRW's AI-powered course-writing assistant using the OpenAI API
- Build and maintain features in Cosmos Public, the creator-led Next.js learning marketplace
- Develop marketplace functionality covering learning experiences, pricing, delivery methods and subscriptions
- Build and maintain the subscription and billing functionality for separate learner and creator plans
- Work with Stripe for subscription payments and invoices
- Design and modify Mongoose models, database queries, indexes and REST API endpoints
- Maintain and extend the shared Node.js / Express back end supporting Genesis, Cosmos, subscriptions and administration
- Work with authentication and sessions, including email/password authentication, Google sign-in, magic links and two-factor authentication
- Build and maintain administration functionality covering users, content, analytics and master data
- Work across older React applications as well as newer React 18/19 and Next.js applications
- Safely improve or upgrade older code and dependencies where appropriate
- Introduce automated tests into areas where testing is currently limited or absent
- Test your own work thoroughly before handing it over for review
- Work through Git feature branches and pull requests using Bitbucket
- Communicate progress, blockers, risks and technical concerns clearly and early
- Work to agreed priorities and timelines set with the CEO
- Document important technical decisions and processes to make the codebase easier for future developers to work with
