Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is seeking candidates for a Full-Time Librarian II position in the Research and Teaching division. The regular work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., allowing for flexibility to accommodate one evening shift per week, and an occasional Saturday as required. This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 29 position. This position is currently eligible for telework one (1) day per week. The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide professional research assistance and a wide range of information services to library users, who are students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. This includes providing formal instruction on information literacy topics, in the classroom and one-on-one. This position will be a member of the Arts, English & Reading, and Humanities librarian liaison team, providing outreach and support to faculty and students in these discipline areas. This position is also the coordinator for the Research & Teaching division’s online learning tools, which requires the incumbent in this position to lead instructional design initiatives in support of teaching and learning; manage workplans for review, creation and maintenance of digital learning objects; participate in assessment activities; and lead periodic discussions about learning tools within the Research & Teaching division.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Perform all aspects of Academic Area Liaison and Embedded Librarian services which include providing professional reference assistance and a wide range of information services to library users; providing effective information literacy instruction; and creating and delivering information literacy activities and tools for in-person and online learning environments.
• Perform outreach to faculty and others in the Arts, English & Reading, and Humanities disciplines to foster effective relationships for creating dynamic learning strategies in support of the curriculum and specific student needs in a variety of courses and stages of student development.
• Familiarize themselves with the needs, attitudes, and internal operations of the academic departments in which they liaise.
• Learn about the programs and curricula for their assigned academic departments and plan for growth and change accordingly.
• Form relationships and regularly communicate with faculty in their assigned academic department(s).
• Work with their librarian supervisor and liaison team to establish and maintain relationships and outreach methods.
• Provide coordination of the development and maintenance of MC Library’s multidisciplinary online learning tools including the oversight of routine maintenance, periodic revisions, and the development of new digital learning objects.
• Serve as the Research & Teaching division’s point of contact for the Articulate content development platform.
• Provide training on instructional design principles and the effective use of the Articulate platform for librarian content authors.
• Lead periodic discussions within the Research & Teaching division, to promote a holistic understanding of the library’s digital learning objects and engage in planning for future needs.

• Participate in planning and priority setting for the Research and Teaching division's annual goals.
• Commit to professional development opportunities (internal and external), by participating in conferences, seminars, and professional meetings that enhance their knowledge in current professional librarianship practices and to learn and develop new skills that will improve library services and fulfill unit goals and objectives.
• Maintain a high level of proficiency with electronic and print resources in a constantly evolving information and technology environment.
• Maintain and update skills with the latest hardware and software products, trends, and their practical use in an information seeking environment.
• Maintain proficiency in the use of web-based, social media, networked, and emerging technologies to deliver real-time and asynchronous reference and instructional services.
• Create and maintain online library guides using an extensible web-based platform.
• Maintain a high level of interpersonal, intercultural, and intergenerational communication skills to reach a diverse user population.
• Participate on library committees, task groups, or subcommittees in support of goals and objectives surrounding the Library Master Plan and Research and Teaching goals and special projects; and/or participate on college governance or college committees with faculty and staff, and/or planning events with faculty from other departments to establish relationships that promote library services and resources.
• Support library employees by sharing knowledge and encouraging their development, in order to build relationships and strengthen collaboration within and between library units.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in library/information science (MLS, MSLS, MLIS, etc.).
• Three years of progressively responsible professional library experience in a functional area or specialized services in academic, research, or public library.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science as applied to the operation of academic libraries.
• Professional competence using research tools in an online environment such as Internet browsers, Library Management Systems and current W2 applications, as well as professional experience with basic Microsoft Office Software.
• Ability to instruct and assist students in the use of library resources.
• Excellent teamwork, communication and leadership skills, as well as strong listening skills and proficiency at conducting reference interviews.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science as applied to the operation of academic libraries.
• The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing digital learning objects, using instructional design methodology and adult learning principles.
• Experience with developing digital learning objects through the Articulate platform, including Rise 360, Review 360 and/or Storyline 360.
• Experience collaborating with faculty and others to achieve strategic goals.
• Experience managing or leading collaborative projects or programs.
• Experience with effective methods and current techniques in information literacy instruction, including awareness of emerging technologies and their implications for teaching and learning.
• Professional expertise in learning design for accessibility.
• Familiarity with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
• Proficiency in a language other than English.

Hiring Range: $74,267 - $96,558 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity.  The maximum salary for this position is $118,850.
