Mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Leading Hand to join our Ready to Respond - RFS team based in Albany, Auckland. Working alongside the Supervisor, you’ll lead and support a cyclic first response crew across maintenance work in the Auckland North network.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. From pothole repairs and kerb & channel work to minor barriers and road signage, you’ll help keep roads, footpaths, and public spaces safe and well maintained for the community. This role includes emergency response work and being part of a roster, working across AM and PM shifts, and weekends.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

• Lead and support your crew on planned and reactive maintenance works.
• Coordinate people, equipment, and materials to keep work moving.
• Ensure work is completed on time and to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
• Complete daily reports and related documentation accurately.
• Attend emergency callouts on a rostered basis, including standard hours, shift work, and weekends as required.

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

• A minimum Class 2 NZ Driver Licence.
• At least 2 years’ experience in RFS or cyclic maintenance, with previous Leading Hand or Team Lead experience an advantage.
• The ability to read and interpret work schedules and compliance standards.
• Flexibility to work AM and PM shifts of up to 10 to 12 hours, plus weekends on a rostered basis.
• A strong safety-first mindset, a team-focused attitude, and the initiative to adapt, pitch in, and keep learning.
