Recovery Operations Engineer (m/f/d)

Mission Brief
As a Recovery Operations Engineer in the Reusability Program, you define and mature the CONOPS for post‑flight recovery, refurbishment, and return‑to‑flight of reusable launch vehicle elements. You enable safe, repeatable, and cost‑efficient reuse by embedding recovery and refurbishment considerations into vehicle design, ground operations, and long‑term fleet operability from the outset.
Your Role in Our Space Mission
- Define and evolve recovery Concept of Operations (CONOPS), covering primary recovery scenarios as well as fallback scenarios, from landing through return‑to‑flight
- Evaluate and down‑select launch sites, landing zones, and ranges with respect to recovery feasibility, safety, and operations
- Specify and assess recovery ground support equipment (GSE), including cranes, transport frames, barges, and port infrastructure
- Define refurbishment and recycle processes, including inspection flows, repair scope, turnaround timelines, and reuse limits
- Drive maintainability and operability requirements into vehicle and system design
- Support integration and payload processing concepts where recovery impacts launch‑site operations
- Contribute to fleet and lifecycle management strategies, including inspection intervals and retirement criteria
- Develop and maintain operational cost models, including recovery, refurbishment, infrastructure, and reuse cost functions, and support cost estimation and trade studies to inform architectural and program‑level decisions
Qualification Checklist
Education & Technical Background
- Engineering education in aerospace, mechanical, civil, naval, industrial, or a closely related field, or equivalent senior industry experience
- Technical background in launcher ground operations plus recovery and refurbishment concepts for reusable launch vehicle hardware
- Proven knowledge of transport, handling, lifting, storage, inspection, and repair of large aerospace hardware and associated ground support equipment
- Proven knowledge of large‑scale logistics and ground infrastructure as primary drivers of operability, cost, and turnaround time in a reusable launch vehicle fleet
Experience
- 5–10+ years in launch vehicle programs, recovery programs, or large‑scale aerospace hardware projects
- Direct involvement in designing and evaluating end‑to‑end CONOPS, covering recovery logistics, ground support equipment, refurbishment, maintainability, and return‑to‑flight
- Practical work with large ground support equipment and infrastructure, including recovery assets, lifting systems, transport solutions, hazardous substances supply systems and launch-site or port environments
- Hands-on exposure to launch vehicle or aircraft refurbishment and post‑operation processing, including inspection strategies, repair scope definition, structural and systems assessments, and reuse or return‑to‑service considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to assess how recovery and ground operations concepts drive launcher architecture, interfaces, access requirements, and design margins
- Proven involvement in operational trade studies, addressing feasibility, cost drivers, turnaround time, and risk across alternative recovery and refurbishment approaches

- Ability to architect recovery and refurbishment CONOPS that are technically executable and scale with fleet growth
- Strong judgement balancing launcher design, ground support equipment capability, logistics constraints, safety, cost, and schedule
- Deep practical knowledge of ground support equipment-driven constraints and their impact on recovery methods and launcher interfaces
- Clear command of maintainability and refurbishment drivers, including access, wear mechanisms, handling damage, and inspection effort
- Capability to challenge launcher and ground design decisions based on operational realism rather than theoretical optimization
- Structured decision‑making under uncertainty, grounded in experience with real hardware, infrastructure, and field operations
- Fluent in English (German is a plus)

As the Director – European Government Operations, based in Munich/ Berlin, Germany, you will lead Rocket Lab’s government affairs strategy across Germany with targeted engagement in priority European markets as the company’s regional footprint evolves. You will play a critical role in advancing Rocket Lab’s business objectives by shaping policy environments, building strategic government relationships, and ensuring alignment between Government Affairs and Business Development. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO
- Develop and lead Rocket Lab’s government affairs strategy in Germany, with targeted engagement in priority European markets as this area of interest develops, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and business development objectives
- Engage with EU‑level institutions and programs relevant to space and defense, including EDF, EDIP, EUSPA, and the European Defense Agency (EDA), to advance Rocket Lab’s policy and program objectives.
- Establish and grow Rocket Lab’s presence with government entities and innovation ecosystems in Munich and other strategic European hubs
- Partner closely with the Business Development team to support market expansion, customer engagement, and pursuit of government‑funded programs
- Shape Rocket Lab’s positioning in active European policy debates - including launch sovereignty, the European Defense Industrial Program (EDIP), dual‑use technology regulation, and the EU Space Program’s procurement frame works.
- Provide strategic guidance on developments directly relevant to Rocket Lab’s position as a non‑European supplier - including export control regimes (ITAR/EAR), European sovereign capability debates, and evolving defense procurement preferences under the Zeitenwende.
- Represent Rocket Lab in industry associations, working groups, and public‑sector forums to strengthen the company’s visibility and credibility
- Drive measurable business outcomes through targeted government engagement not only monitoring policy trends but actively shaping them

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, public policy, law, economics, engineering, or a related field
- 12+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, defense, aerospace, or related strategic roles within Germany or Europe
- Professional fluency in German and English
- Demonstrated success building and managing relationships with senior government officials, policymakers, and public‑sector institutions
- Proven ability to drive business‑aligned outcomes through government engagement, not solely policy monitoring
- Strong understanding of European political structures, defense priorities, civil space programs, and procurement processes - including familiarity with ESA programs, EU space initiatives, and international exploration frameworks such as Artemis.
- Familiarity with NATO space and defense structures - including NATO DIANA, the NATO Space Centre at Ramstein, and national resilience frameworks under Article 3 obligations.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously, set strategy, and execute in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills

Mission Brief
The Manufacturing Engineer CAD will hold responsibility for CAD related topics in the Production Engineering team and will check the readiness for production of parts, assemblies, and methods. Further, you will define respective assembly and test jigs as well as Ground Support Equipment (GSE). Work closely with internal and external key stakeholders, regarding technical support, striving for best-in-class products and business practices. Building a rocket, we have the following key production processes: additive manufacturing, CNC turning and milling, assembly processes, carbon fibre composites, electronics manufacturing and welding. Some of the processes are fully automated. Our machine park includes only the most advanced and latest machinery and equipment.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Check models, assemblies and manufacturing methods and challenge possible difficulties before production release
- Approach colleagues in charge for the respective manufacturing methods to ensure technical feasibility and highest quality standards from early on
- Support engineers to design components in accordance to internal manufacturing constraints and standards
- Ongoing support in improvement of more efficient manufacturing and automization
- Design equipment such as mounting fixtures, cleaning fixtures, or similar (Create CAD models and drawings)
- Design and Implement Ground Support Equipment such as Jigs (Create CAD models and drawings, end-to-end from quote to build up and integration checks)
- Create Manufacturing Bill of Material (mBOM) and Bill of Process (BOP)
Qualification Checklist
- B.sc/M.sc in an Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or apprenticeship with at least five years of relevant experience

You will be an integral part of the Avionics, Guidance, Navigation & Control (AGNC) department, specifically the Avionics Hardware team, that designs and integrates Avionics on our launch vehicle. Your day-to-day job will include working on the Power System of Spectrum, as well as maintaining associated power system interfaces. You will take ownership of Spectrum’s Avionics Li-Ion Batteries which will include developing, integrating and testing. Interdisciplinary tasks and fast paced R&D are your daily business, and you thrive in that kind of environment.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Be the product owner of Spectrum’s Avionics Li-Ion Batteries.
- Own all interfaces of your product across its lifecycle, from design to manufacturing to verification and integration, including all technical and programmatic interfaces.
- Take on unit level tasks including design, qualification & acceptance testing, as well as integration and return analysis.
- Support vehicle integration and testing, both in Germany and on the launch pad
- Maintain, challenge and verify Power System requirements.
- Build up and maintain automated qualification & acceptance testing infrastructure for the Power System and FTS components.
- Be the product owner of the battery testrig
Qualification Checklist
- BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering, Energy Science and Technology or comparable
- 5+ years of working experience with complex PCBs and Electronic Units and Li ion batteries
- Excellent knowledge of circuit theory, electronics, signal processing and power electronics
- Extensive experience in E-CAD tools (Schematic & Layout Design), preferably Altium Designer
- Extensive knowledge of semiconductors and solid-state power controllers
- Excellent knowledge of Li-Ion battery system technology and state-of-the-art cell chemistries

As a Senior Systems Operations Engineer at Spire, you will be responsible for ensuring that on-orbit mission operations meet and sustain technical and service-level objectives. You will serve as the technical link between the development and operations phases of the mission lifecycle, ensuring that the constellation behaves as expected and that any deviations are rapidly understood, assessed, and resolved with sound engineering judgment.
This role is central to Spire’s strategy to deliver scalable, reliable, and technically assured services using model-based engineering and validated asset profiles. Your work will ensure that decisions affecting constellation performance are made with technical insight.
Role Responsibilities:
- Own the technical quality of mission operations during the on-orbit service period, ensuring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are well defined, monitored, and maintained.
- Assess and design strategies to address underperformance, providing detailed technical insight and coordinating resolution strategies in collaboration with Systems Engineering, Mission Design, and SRE.
- Define and manage the high-level structure and performance requirements of asset profiles, ensuring they accurately represent mission needs and provide a clear basis for verification. Work with System Owners and SMEs to ensure subsystem capabilities are properly characterised, and with SREs to ensure ongoing validation of in-orbit performance.
- Bridge the gap between Systems Engineering, Mission Design, Program Management, Customer Service, and SRE by providing technical leadership during the mission service period. Define the tooling and functional monitoring needs that enable the SRE team to maintain constellation health and respond effectively to deviations.
- Support SRE, Platform, and Customer Service leads in triaging constellation or satellite issues that deviate from nominal asset profile definitions, ensuring escalation paths and responses are technically justified.
- Act as a technical reviewer and contributor during Mission Readiness Review (MRR) and pre-launch handover, ensuring operational teams are equipped with validated, well-understood assets and clearly defined expectations for mission performance.
- Identify operational risks and propose mitigations related to in-orbit performance, platform limitations, or evolving CONOPS.
- Ensure technical consistency and justification for on-orbit changes such as mode transitions, re-tasking, or adjustments to duty cycles or resource allocations. Lead the rollout of complex fleet-wide changes when CONOPS are being updated, ensuring risks and dependencies are managed.
- Collaborate across SRE, Platform, and Systems teams to codify lessons learned into reusable operational standards, documentation, and improved design practices for future missions.
- Derive and maintain Operational Requirements by helping project teams translate mission and system-level requirements into operational-level non-functional requirements (SLOs, latency, freshness, availability), with verification methods and traceability.
- Support configuration control during service, helping manage the versioned operational baseline (limits, parameters, tasking configurations) and working with SREs, System Owners, and Customer Service to prevent configuration drift across the fleet.
- Support the definition and coverage of FDIR (Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery) logic, ensuring coverage against top failure modes and reducing residual operational risk over time.
Basic Qualifications:
- BSc in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in system performance monitoring, root cause analysis, and anomaly resolution.
- Solid understanding of space system behaviour on orbit, including thermal dynamics, power management, RF communications, and tasking impacts.
- Ability to translate system-level engineering context into clear operational guidance and tooling requirements.
- Familiarity with SLA-driven architectures, system observability, and mission assurance principles.
- Clear communication skills to align stakeholders across engineering, operations, and customer delivery.
- Familiarity with software tools and frameworks used in operations, including strong Python, SQL skills and GitHub-based workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience supporting operations of multi-satellite constellations.
- Knowledge of asset profiling approaches and system models (including fault profiles, mode transitions, and performance boundaries).
- Understanding of ground-segment tooling, SRE practices, or telemetry/telecommand systems.
- Experience working with cross-functional, multi-time zone teams across engineering and operations.

Senior Fluid Systems Design Engineer (m/f/d)

We deliver the half of the rocket that stays on the ground. As a Senior Ground Fluid Systems Engineer at Isar Aerospace, you deliver the ground fluid infrastructure required for safe, reliable, and rapid test and launch of the Spectrum rocket. This includes test-rigs for development, qualification, and acceptance of launch vehicle and propulsion systems as well as entire launch bases. You work hand-in-hand with Propulsion and Launch Vehicle development teams to translate their requirements into functional designs and concepts of operations. You tackle complex engineering challenges across multiple projects and phases – from concept to detail design, execution, commissioning, and handover to site owner and operator.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Design fluid systems for test and launch facilities, including rocket engine test-rigs, structure pressurization test-rigs, integrated stage testing rigs, launch pads, etc.
- Perform sizing calculations and/or numerical simulations for fluid systems, including cryogenic propellants storage, conditioning, and distribution systems, high-pressure gas distribution and pressurization systems, etc.
- Select and procure suitable fluid hardware, including tanks, pumps, heat-exchangers, valves, pressure regulators, safety-valves, instrumentation, etc.
- Prepare technical documentation, such as PFDs and P&IDs, hardware lists, datasheets, technical notes etc. that serve as a basis for manufacturing planning and execution
- Lead and contribute to system design reviews and risk assessments
- Act as a technical point of contact and subject matter expert for the project and operation teams, consulting on fluid system questions and decisions
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to structuring and expanding knowledge in the team with guidelines, checklists, processes, presentations, etc.
- Depending on interest and experience:
- lead or support factory and site acceptance tests for fluid systems
- lead or participate in commissioning planning and hands-on site operations
- support test and launch campaigns on-site or remotely with operations or data analyses.

As part of the Guidance, Navigation, & Control team, you will support the technical development of the autopilot of the launch vehicle. You will be responsible for developing the GNC flight algorithms and the necessary verification environments following a model-based design approach.
Your Role in Our Space Mission
- Perform the GNC algorithm selection, design, tuning and implementation
- Model required fluids systems to expand the 6-DoF verification capabilities
- Maintain and further develop hydraulic actuator models

Mission Brief
We are seeking a versatile Hybrid Infrastructure Engineer to bridge the gap between our on-premise virtualization and multi-cloud footprint. This is a "best of both worlds" role: you will manage our private cloud clusters (VMware/Proxmox) while orchestrating production workloads across Azure, AWS, and IONOS Cloud. The ideal candidate is a Debian Linux expert who views manual configuration as a failure and uses Ansible and Terraform to automate everything from the OS kernel to global network routing.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Multi-Cloud Administration: Design and maintain scalable infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and IONOS Cloud.
- Virtualization Management: Oversee our on-premise footprint using VMware vSphere and Proxmox VE.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop and maintain Terraform modules for provisioning and Ansible playbooks for configuration.
- System Mastery: Provide expert-level support for Debian Linux environments (security patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting).
- Network Troubleshooting: Resolve complex connectivity issues involving Site-to-Site VPNs, Cloud VPCs, and local VLANs.

Qualification Checklist

As Manager of the Mechanical Ground Systems Team at Isar Aerospace, you lead the team building infrastructure for Spectrum rocket testing and launches, collaborating with development teams and balancing technical and management responsibilities. Your Role in Our Space Mission
- Lead and build a team of mechanical and aerospace engineers, ensuring that the mechanical ground infrastructure is designed according to coherent standards and processes while taking ownership of technical work packages yourself
- Own and drive the design, development, and realization of heavy mechanical systems within larger projects, including requirements management, technical coordination, documentation, risk assessments, design reviews, compliance evaluation (e.g. safety standards for machinery, pressure equipment, lifting devices), and support during commissioning activities
- Manage and technically steer external suppliers and contractors, including specification, review, acceptance, on-site supervision, and ensure proactive communication and collaboration throughout project phases

Your Impact
As a Manufacturing Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and improving the manufacturing systems and production processes at our Kassel facility. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and quality teams to ensure manufacturing processes are efficient, scalable, and reliable.
What You’ll Do
Location: Onsite at our Kassel, Germany office
Reports to: General Manager, Operations
- Support and optimize manufacturing systems, processes, and production workflows to ensure efficient and reliable operations.
- Identify and implement improvements to manufacturing processes, tooling, and production systems to increase throughput and reduce operational friction.
- Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot technical issues affecting manufacturing performance.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flows, and system procedures.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring manufacturing readiness and process stability.
- Analyze manufacturing and operational data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to improve yield, reduce defects, and stabilize processes.
- Support implementation and improvement of manufacturing systems such as MES, ERP, or production tracking tools.
- Contribute to Lean manufacturing initiatives and operational excellence programs across the Kassel site.

What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production engineering, or manufacturing systems roles.
- Experience working in manufacturing environments such as electronics, hardware, aerospace, automotive, or other technically complex production settings.

Work Location
This role is based out of our Kassel, Germany office and follows a hybrid schedule. You will be responsible for the structural analysis of entire assemblies belonging to our rocket’s primary and secondary structures. From trading design concepts to sizing and validating design iterations and examining the impact of manufacturing deviations, you will play an important role in guiding design decisions and pushing performance and reliability of our structures forward.
As a Senior Structural Analysis Engineer you will play a major role in improving our overall analysis and verification workflow by defining standards, sharing technical knowledge and reviewing your colleagues’ results and identifying action points.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Perform detailed stress analysis of aerospace structures and components using both classical hand calculations and advanced finite element methods (FEM), mostly of CFRP structures
- Identify failure scenarios and collaborate with design engineers to review and optimize structural designs
- Analise and provide possible solutions to manufacturing non-conformities
- Develop test plans and support physical testing of components to verify sizing assumptions and qualify hardware.
- Prepare comprehensive stress analysis reports and documentation for internal/external use
- Improve our standards and toolchain for structural verification
- Be familiar with classical design standards and have experience in the use of CAD software
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the team
Qualification Checklist

As a Propulsion Test Engineer you will join a team of engineers and technicians performing development, qualification and acceptance tests of subcomponents of liquid rocket engines and integrated subsystems of our Spectrum rocket. You will participate in test operations at the production site in Ottobrunn (Bavaria, Germany) and at the test site in Reischach (Bavaria, Germany) for gas generators, subscale chambers and turbopumps. In addition to test operations, you will conduct maintenance activities and upgrades on the existing test rigs, as well as designing and building test set-ups to cover ad-hoc needs. You will work in tight-knit teams to ensure safe and efficient operations, while closely cooperating with the design engineers to enable fast iterations and timely delivery of hardware.

- Plan, prepare and execute tests, process data, and write reports
- Take care of test preparations

Mission Brief
Your Role in Our Space Mission: As our Test Bench Mechanic, your primary objective will be to support Test and Propulsion engineers in executing test campaigns on flight components and subsystems.
- Run Test sequences on our Shock and Shaker Table. We expect a high level of autonomous working in setting up test configurations according to given requirements. Careful adjustments of current setups, if needed.
- Assessment of test results in terms of plausibility and repeatability.
- Data preparation of the Test results before hand them over to client
- Support components test campaigns by preparing test articles and the test facility in collaboration with test and propulsion engineers
- Maintain, modify, and design high-pressure (up to 300 bar) and cryogenic (down to -196°C) piping systems
- Document all work carried out on test articles with proper documentation and traceability procedures
- Keep the workshop up to date with necessary tooling and ensure machines remain functional through regular servicing

Qualification Checklist

Join the Avionics Power Systems team within the Avionics, Guidance, Navigation & Control (AGNC) department, designing and integrating power units for our launch vehicle.
This role involves ownership of Spectrum’s Power Distribution Unit, including development, integration, testing, and lifecycle management. Your Role in Our Space Mission
- Be the product owner of the Power Distribution Unit for the current and next generation of Spectrum
- Own all interfaces of your product across its lifecycle, from design to manufacturing to verification and integration, including all technical and programmatic interfaces.
- Take on unit level tasks including design, qualification & acceptance testing, as well as integration and return analysis.
- Plan and conduct vehicle integration and testing for your products, both in Germany and on the launch pad
- Maintain, challenge and verify Power System requirements.
- Build up and maintain automated qualification & acceptance testing infrastructure
- Actively participate in the definition of the Avionics Power System architecture and associated technology roadmaps

- Creation and adaptation of jigs (fixtures) and tooling to support the manufacturing process
- Drill composite materials and install rivets and fasteners
- Perform structural bodings
- Inspection, control, and quality assurance of manufactured CFRP components according to space industry standards
- Cautious execution of all work steps while always maintaining an orderly and safe working environment under high cleanliness requirements
- Documentation of work steps according to specific regulations
- Close collaboration with other departments such as engineering and quality assurance
- Participation in test and launch campaigns at different locations inside and outside of Germany
Qualification Checklist

Your Role in Our Space Mission
- Run end‑to‑end mission and trajectory optimization for ascent, reentry, and recovery scenarios, structuring problems for coupled multidisciplinary analysis and delivering actionable performance insights to inform system‑level decisions.
- Perform trajectory analyses and MonteCarlo simulations to assess sensitivity to dispersions, environmental variations, and vehicle uncertainties.
- Conduct mission planning and performance assessments for nearterm demonstrators and future HLV configurations.
- Develop and execute multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) studies and design‑space exploration to integrate propulsion, aerodynamics, structures, mass properties, thermal constraints, GNC effects, and operational assumptions, comparing mission‑level outcomes across vehicle configurations, recovery concepts, and constraint sets to inform architectural trade‑offs.

Education & Technical Background
- Master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or an equivalent technical field.

- Understanding of reusability concepts for launch vehicles, including ascent–entry coupling and performance constraints, and their implications on multidisciplinary mission‑level trade‑offs.
Experience
- Experience in mission analysis, trajectory simulation, or related GNC/flightdynamics work.

Mission Brief
As part of the AGNC Test team, you will move horizontally across the design teams. You will be responsible for the selection and qualification of our launch vehicle Spectrum’s sensors, while maintaining the corresponding interfaces across the departments. Furthermore, you will work with all design teams to select and integrate sensor components, define operative procedures, and test the equipment before and after the integration into Spectrum.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Be the focal point for all instrumentation on Spectrum
- Support all design teams in the selection and qualification of sensors
- Support the assembly, integration and testing teams in the definition of operative procedures
- Establish design and operative standards for flight instrumentation
- Perform qualitative and quantitative checks on the sensors on-board the vehicle.
- Propose alternatives and assist the design teams in the selection process
- Estimate and calculate errors resulting from the measurement chain in the corresponding systems.
- Perform hands-on assembly and testing of instrumentation
- Own and maintain the flight instrumentation list across the vehicle
- Align with the design teams and periodically update the list and sensor configuration files.
- Ensure all change requests are incorporated into the list between flights

The Role
The Senior Systems Software Engineer will be a member of the core team building the Quantum Key Distribution system. The focus is on high-performance Python services on Linux, algorithm optimization and acceleration (also via hardware offload), and the role spans defining software architecture, integrating with FPGA/embedded subsystems, and turning requirements into reliable, observable software.
The Senior Systems Software Engineer leads and co-owns the overall internal QKD software architecture and client-facing software API. By setting engineering standards, mentoring, and unblocking delivery, they ensure predictable releases and a strong execution cadence.
The Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Software Engineer should expect to work in the following activities.
- System architecture
- Leading and co-owning the QKD software architecture: control plane services, key sifting/postprocessing integration, configuration management, monitoring, and external interfaces
- Defining module boundaries and service APIs; evolving the system toward clear data/control-plane separation
- Efficient implementation and hardware/software integration
- Designing and implementing high-performance Python services on Linux (asyncio, WebSockets, NumPy); profiling and tuning for latency and throughput
- Developing, profiling, and optimizing QKD sifting and postprocessing algorithms (signal handling/processing, error correction/information reconciliation, LDPC, privacy amplification) to maximize key rate and minimize end-to-end latency; applying algorithmic improvements and implementation techniques (vectorization, concurrency/async, memory/layout tuning, C/C++ extensions, SIMD/CUDA/GPU/FPGA offload where appropriate)
- Defining and maintaining robust interfaces with embedded/FPGA system components over UART/USB/PCIe/Ethernet; respecting realtime constraints and failure modes
- Guiding downstream system integration (WebSockets/gRPC/REST) and ensuring clear contracts and backward compatibility
- Designing for test – building mocks/simulators and automated test systems
- DevOps
- Building and maintaining CI/CD with Docker and GitHub Actions; automated tests, static analysis, artifact management, and release pipelines
- Establishing observability (structured logging, metrics, tracing) and operational runbooks; improving reliability and debuggability with SLOs/alerts
- Embedding security and crypto hygiene by default: secure transport, secrets management, key handling, and coordination with cryptography stakeholders
- Adding performance benchmarking and regression tracking for key rate and end-to-end latency; integrating profiling/flame graphs into CI and enforcing performance budgets
The Requirements
The Senior Systems Software Engineer is expected to have the following qualifications and experience.
- 5+ years of Python development; 3+ years leading or co‑owning service/system architecture for a hardware‑first product
- Strong Linux async Python (asyncio, WebSockets), concurrency (threads/processes), profiling/tuning
- Proven custom hardware integration (MCU, FPGA) over UART/USB/PCIe/Ethernet
- CI/CD with Docker and GitHub Actions; automated testing, static analysis, artifact management
- Experience with GPU & CUDA acceleration/optimization; SIMD familiarity
- Production observability (logging/metrics/tracing) and incident/debug practices
- Working knowledge of relational/key-value/time-series stores (PostgreSQL/Redis/Prometheus)
- Security by Default mindset: secrets, secure transport, key/crypto hygiene
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Ability to be on-site in Munich office several times per week

- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain either (a) a U.S. Secret (or higher) security clearance or (b) an EU SECRET (or national equivalent) personnel security clearance. Employment is contingent on meeting applicable government security requirements; eligibility is determined by the competent authorities.
Good to have:
- Experience with QKD systems, cryptography, or high‑rate data pipelines
- Exposure to C/C++ for low‑level interfacing and FPGA/embedded ecosystems
- Familiarity with gRPC/Protobuf, schema/versioning strategies, and Kubernetes
