About the Role

As a Senior Technical Artist at Fortis Games, your mission is to bridge the gap between art and technology by developing efficient tools, optimizing asset pipelines, and ensuring seamless integration between art and engineering. You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining rigging systems, shader workflows, and automation tools, helping the art team create high-quality visuals while keeping performance in check. This role allows you to work across multiple projects, collaborating with designers, engineers, and other artists to ensure technical excellence and consistency across all game assets.

• Develop and maintain tools and pipelines for efficient asset creation and integration.
• Identify and communicate technical limitations and potential solutions for art assets and game systems.
• Responsible for developing and implementing rigging systems to support character and creature animation.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as engineering and design, to ensure consistency and quality across the game.
• Lead the development and maintenance of advanced shader systems for the game, optimizing them for performance on target platforms while maintaining high visual fidelity.

What you’ll need to be successful 

• Advanced knowledge of the Unity game engine and scripting.
• Excellent knowledge of modeling programs such as 3DSMAX, Maya, Blender, Zbrush and texture/material authoring tools such as Photoshop and Substance.
• Extensive experience in rigging and animating characters and objects in various styles and workflows.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimize rigs and animations for maximum performance and quality.
• Basic knowledge of shader creation via node graph, HLSL or GLSL.
• Base proficiency with Python, C# or C++
• Proficiency in creating and optimizing real-time game assets, including characters, environments, and particle effects.\

About the job

The Role

We are looking for a Research Engineer to help deliver frontier-quality datasets, RL environments, and evaluations that improve state-of-the-art models for leading AI labs and enterprise clients.

This is a hands-on, research-facing technical leadership role. You will work directly with customer researchers/engineers to translate their model and post-training goals into concrete data and environment specifications, and drive the production of data that meets extremely high standards for correctness, realism, diversity, difficulty, and measurable model lift.

This role is designed for candidates with roughly 4 to 5 years of experience building and improving deep learning systems, especially where strong results depend on data quality, data curation, denoising, synthetic data generation, and rigorous evaluation. You’ll operate in one or more of the following capability areas:

• Coding and software engineering agents (repositories, unit tests, debugging, tool use, code reviews, long-horizon workflows)
• RL environments and verifier-based training (tasks, rewards/verifiers, trajectories, evaluation harnesses)
• Multimodal data and reasoning (text + images + documents + tables/charts; optional audio/video)

Qualifications:

• Experience with Javascript and Typescript.
• Experience with a core Object-Oriented Programming language like Java/C++/C#
• Familiarity with backend services & technologies is a plus.
• Experience with deployment systems (e.g. GitHub Actions, AWS CodeDeploy).
• Familiarity with AWS Services (e.g. RDS, Lambda, EC2, et cetera).
• Familiarity with the Linux operating system and command-line tools.
• Understanding of OO design, algorithms, and data structures.
• Aptitude to quickly learn new languages and technologies as necessary.
• Experience developing websites that are visited by thousands of visitors daily.
• Experience with enhancing SEO performance.
• Experienced with AI-native tools that enhance productivity and speed (e.g., Cursor, Make, Supabase, Netlify, Claude Code, n8n, Firecrawl, ChatGPT, Grok, Bolt, Vercel, etc).

• Computer Science or related degree preferred.
• Fluent in English.

The Difference You Will Make:

The Service Tools team’s mission is to enable Airbnb backend developers to develop, test, and maintain their code quickly and reliably. This team is responsible for the standard development lifecycle for service owners—everything from AI Integration for service development, to how integration tests work, to building services for deployment. This represents Airbnb’s largest cohort of developers, you will ultimately be responsible for their productivity.

A Typical Day: 

As an engineer on Service Tools, you will work on technologies that help shape an industry-leading end to end developer experience for backend developers. In this role you will be:

• Building our next-gen build system using the latest technologies (e.g., Bazel).
• Working on integrations between the build system and CI/CD tooling (e.g., merge queues, code coverage, integration testing).
• Improving the editor (e.g., IntelliJ) experience for all backend developers.
• Helping to shape the technical strategy that directly moves our core metrics (Developer Experience, Developer Velocity, Debuggability, Resilience and Reliability) while reducing cost.
• Partnering with engineering leaders across all Airbnb teams for adoption of the new capabilities. Your customers will be all engineers at Airbnb.
• A player/coach of our high-performance team to ensure code quality, commitment to craft and operational excellence.

Your Expertise:

• FLUENT IN ENGLISH (PROFESSIONAL LEVEL)
• 6+ years industry experience.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages (Java/Ruby/Go/C++/etc.).
• Experienced in architectural patterns of a high-scale distributed products/services, such as well-designed APIs, data pipelines and efficient algorithms.
• Experience or desire to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design, product and data science partners.
• Experience working directly on build systems, and even better if you have hands-on experience with Bazel.
• Experience working with large monorepos.
• Extensive JVM experience.
• Want to tackle projects with large open-ended scope and drive significant business impact.
• Love collaborating via product reviews, code reviews and architecture discussions.
• Are motivated to improve their teammates’ productivity.
• Are excited to join an impactful infrastructure team.
