What You'll Do
Epic Games is seeking talented, experienced Technical UI Designers to work on Fortnite. In this position, you will have a role as a collaborative team member implementing UI systems in Unreal engine, building rapid prototypes, layouts, visual scripting, and leveling up our workflows. You will work with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Engineers to ship these features to millions of users worldwide. The ideal candidate would have expertise in introductory algebra and geometry math ("Game math"), game systems, and fundamental programming principles.
In this role, you will
- Work on UI Systems Design, break down feature/wireframes into necessary widgets, structures, and classes; increase UI performance by ensuring best practices are followed by colleagues
- Ensure assets/UI are within memory and CPU constraints. Learning to profile performance and the costs of UMG/Slate/C++/and texture memory
- Implement blueprint logic when presentation logic calls for it. Assist UI Artists where necessary in implementing special presentation behavior. Consult with UI engineers on the logic that will be in the blueprint vs native code
- Debug blueprints/UMG issues quickly using various tools and techniques
- Find ways to assist UX, UI Art, and UI engineering in organization, documentation, and building workflow improvements
What we're looking for
- 3-6+ years of experience in building UI and experiences in game engines and across multiple platforms (mobile, web, pc, consoles) or similar transferable experience
- 2+ years of experience shipping updates and new features to a user base on a regular cadence or similar transferable experience
- Professional experience using game engines (Custom engine, Unity, UE4, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.), and preparing game assets for them. You have an eye for pixel-perfect UI, translating and spotting various potential issues with mockups as you help see the designs into the engine
- You are a logical problem solver and have attention to detail
- You can "translate" communication across departments (talk to engineering about UI Art needs, summarize technical issues, etc.), but also have empathy for non-technical team members and the ability to empower others on your team

What You'll Do
The Multiproduct team is responsible for building progression systems that reward and engage our players, equipping them with an incredible diversity of looks and styles to show off their personality and interests across all of Fortnite’s experiences, and enabling them to interact socially with the wider Fortnite community. We are looking for a UI Programmer to join us and help create engaging and accessible experiences in the frontend for all players. You’ll bring your own unique perspective to the role and contribute to defining the future of gaming, as you learn and grow alongside a collaborative, supportive, and skilled team.
In this role, you will
- Contribute to the design and implementation of new and existing UI and its intersections with gameplay features and services
- Optimize and fix bugs in existing systems
- Build relationships with adjacent teams including Art, Design, Product, and Performance, while working on cutting edge features that support player experiences across the Fortnite ecosystem
- Collaborate effectively with peers, share knowledge, and support others’ success as well as your own
- Write and document reliable, maintainable code, with extensibility in mind
- Maintain strong attention to detail, especially with regard to functionality, readability and compliance
What we're looking for
- Strong understanding of C++ & technical fundamentals
- Experience developing UI features for mobile platforms
- Unreal Engine development experience
- General experience with web services
- A commitment to delivering quality work with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach, and a willingness to explore and learn unfamiliar systems
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully in a remote, cross-disciplinary team environment
- An interest in games or interactive experiences, and UI/UX design principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- UMG and Slate experience is a plus

What You'll Do
We’re looking for a User Interface Programmer who is passionate about games and well-versed in C++, UI development, and mobile development. In this role you will work closely with artists, designers, and other programmers on cutting-edge features that support player experiences across Fortnite.
In this role, you will
- Work closely with art and design to ensure that UI meets aesthetic and functional requirements
- Attend to every detail, especially with regard to compliance, layout, and design
- Optimize and fixing bugs in existing UI systems
- Contribute ideas toward all aspects of the game’s production and development
- Write robust, maintainable and performant code
What we’re looking for
- Firm grasp of C++ / tech fundamentals
- Unreal Engine development experience
- Profiling and optimization skills for mobile
- General experience with web services
- Passion for games and great user experiences
- A keen analytical mind with mature problem-solving skills
- Enjoy working with a cross-discipline, geographically distributed team

What You'll Do
As a UI Artist, you will collaborate with UX designers to design features and UX/UI systems by generating high-fidelity mockups, prototypes, design systems, and style guides. You will assist the UI Technical Designers and UI Engineers to build out the designs into rapid prototypes and shippable UI to players. In this role, you will have the ability to take wireframes and bring them to life while improving the UX with visuals. You will also implement final art in Unreal Editor using UMG, animations, materials, etc.
In this role, you will
- Work collaboratively with UX Design, Tech UI Design, and Engineering to create AAA-quality UI experiences
- Actively participate in the creation and implementation of design systems, game menus, HUD elements, Iconography, UI materials and shaders, UI animation, and motion design
- Create new material effects, implement basic logic in blueprints, and/or create 2D effects
- Contribute to shipping high-quality features on time
- Collaborate with the greater UXUI Department to ensure consistency and quality are maintained across the project
- Execute at a high-quality bar, work autonomously, and tackle complex features and systems
- Work in Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or Figma to create concept UI art
What we're looking for
- You have 2+ years of experience working collaboratively to create UI from concept to completion
- Excellent visual design skills with a strong portfolio
- You are skilled with Figma, Adobe Suite, or other comparable software
- A strong portfolio of work showcasing your skills and your process
- Experience with UI Art implementation, in Unreal Engine (UMG) or equivalent game engine
- Experience with building UI materials & shaders for game engines, or equivalent 3d packages and FX tools; motion design & UI animation, preferably for games or interaction design
- You have the ability to see features through to completion and rapidly modify work as information changes
- You have a passion for making and playing games and have a strong sense of player empathy
- You are a proactive individual who naturally leans into owning outcomes and is able to deal with ambiguity well and adapt to changes of plan quickly
