What You'll Do

Epic Games is seeking talented, experienced Technical UI Designers to work on Fortnite. In this position, you will have a role as a collaborative team member implementing UI systems in Unreal engine, building rapid prototypes, layouts, visual scripting, and leveling up our workflows. You will work with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Engineers to ship these features to millions of users worldwide. The ideal candidate would have expertise in introductory algebra and geometry math ("Game math"), game systems, and fundamental programming principles.

In this role, you will

• Work on UI Systems Design, break down feature/wireframes into necessary widgets, structures, and classes; increase UI performance by ensuring best practices are followed by colleagues
• Ensure assets/UI are within memory and CPU constraints. Learning to profile performance and the costs of UMG/Slate/C++/and texture memory
• Implement blueprint logic when presentation logic calls for it. Assist UI Artists where necessary in implementing special presentation behavior. Consult with UI engineers on the logic that will be in the blueprint vs native code
• Debug blueprints/UMG issues quickly using various tools and techniques
• Find ways to assist UX, UI Art, and UI engineering in organization, documentation, and building workflow improvements

What we're looking for

• 3-6+ years of experience in building UI and experiences in game engines and across multiple platforms (mobile, web, pc, consoles) or similar transferable experience
• 2+ years of experience shipping updates and new features to a user base on a regular cadence or similar transferable experience
• Professional experience using game engines (Custom engine, Unity, UE4, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.), and preparing game assets for them. You have an eye for pixel-perfect UI, translating and spotting various potential issues with mockups as you help see the designs into the engine
• You are a logical problem solver and have attention to detail
• You can "translate" communication across departments (talk to engineering about UI Art needs, summarize technical issues, etc.), but also have empathy for non-technical team members and the ability to empower others on your team

Epic Games is looking for a Senior Systems Designer to own the development of key progression, economy, and gameplay balance-related features for a new game project. This includes designing and prototyping the features, working with a cross-disciplinary development team to implement them, and ultimately seeing them through to ship and beyond, maintaining and evolving them in a live game environment, and above all, making sure our players are having fun.

In this role, you will

• Work in close collaboration with project leads & directors to shape and evolve various complex design systems that support the engagement, gameplay, and creative vision of the project
• Design, document, prototype, and iterate on these systems, working with a team of developers across multiple disciplines, and oversee their successful implementation from start to finish
• Get hands on creating the scripting, data, and content required by those systems, diving into the engine and leveraging other tools
• Be responsible for soliciting and integrating feedback from across the team on your own initiative, ensuring we’re continually delivering a fun and fresh experience to our players
• Expand and iterate on those systems once they’re in the live environment, ensuring the game remains exciting and engaging to players

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of experience shipping titles as a Systems Designer, working on progression, economy, gameplay system, and gameplay balance features and content
• Experience working on live-service multiplayer environments and ability to get your hands dirty in Unreal Engine is preferred, bonus points for mobile game experience
• Demonstrated talent for empathizing with players and a deep understanding of player motivations, forms of play, and the effects of progression and goal setting on play
• Strong interest in game progression and economies, and an understanding of what makes them work
• Ability to take initiative and react quickly to changing project needs, drive decisions, then owning the outcome and vision

In this position, you will lead and manage a team of Technical UI designers implementing UI systems design in Unreal engine, building rapid prototypes, layouts, visual scripting, and leveling up our workflows. You will also be hands-on as a developer! You will work with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Engineers to ship these features to millions of users around the world.

In this role, you will

• Lead a team of Tech UI designers implementing UI systems in Rocket League; work collaboratively across multiple teams to create consistency

• Establish best practices and procedures for Tech UI Design

What You'll Do

Epic Games is looking for talented, experienced Lead Technical UI Designer to work on Rocket League. In this position, you will lead and manage a team of Technical UI designers implementing UI systems design in Unreal engine, building rapid prototypes, layouts, visual scripting, and leveling up our workflows. You will also be hands-on as a developer! You will work with UX Designers, UI Artists, and UI Engineers to ship these features to millions of users around the world.

In this role, you will

• Lead a team of Tech UI designers implementing UI systems in Rocket League; work collaboratively across multiple teams to create consistency
• Set up a culture of mentorship and excellence within the Tech UI design craft
• Establish best practices and procedures for Tech UI Design
• Work on UI Systems Design, break down feature/wireframe into necessary widgets, materials, and input navigation
• Implement blueprint logic when presentation logic calls for it and assist UI Artists where necessary to implement special presentation behavior
• Debug blueprints/UMG issues quickly using various tools and techniques

What we're looking for

• Experience managing a team of 2–6 people or equivalent training
• Expertise in building UI and experiences in game engines and across multiple platforms (mobile, web, pc, consoles)
• Experience building materials/shaders in Unreal or equivalent
• Professional engine experience (Custom engine, Unity, UE4, Lumberyard, Snowdrop, etc.), and have game industry 3D-package experience (3D Studio, Maya, etc.)
• Experience in visual or scripting languages such as Lua, Blueprints, etc
