Online Services Engineer
Guerrilla, the Amsterdam-based developer of Horizon Zero Dawn, is looking for an Online Services Engineer to support our Online Tech team with upcoming projects.
Our Online Tech team
Our Online Tech team builds reliable, and high-performance online systems with a focus on low-latency delivery. We work with various other disciplines to create tools needed to build online game features. We deliver the networking and replication layers for both game client and server, integration with online platform services (e.g. PSN), authentication, matchmaking, inventory, store, server allocations, and more. The team works in close collaboration with our Online Infrastructure team, which designs and maintains the build and deployment environments for our services, servers and tools.
Our Technology
Our services use industry-standard web technologies built on modern frameworks: Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.5.x (with migration to Java 25 and Spring Boot 4 coming soon), Kotlin, Hibernate, and OpenAPI. We leverage Redis for caching and pub/sub, Amazon SQS for queuing, and PostgreSQL/MySQL for persistence. The services are designed around domain-driven architecture with a hybrid approach between microservices and domain services, and we share as little state as possible between services.
We host our services on Kubernetes backed by Amazon EKS and use other AWS services like S3, DynamoDB, and RDS. Our deployment pipeline uses GitHub Actions and ArgoCD for continuous delivery. Some of our DevOps tooling is built with Golang.
What You Will Do
As an Online Services Engineer we will look to you to:
- Help build a highly scalable and highly available online services environment;
- Work on player systems focused on persistence, safety, retention, and engagement;
- Cooperate with multiple internal stakeholders and disciplines to achieve the game’s vision;
- Develop, test and maintain our zero downtime deployment system;
- Develop and improve instrumentation for monitoring and logging the health and availability of services.
- Work closely with the engineers in the Online Infrastructure team to ensure robustness, scalability and performance of our services;
- Keep up to date with the Java world and introduce new technologies when they are relevant for Guerrilla.
- Participate in, and help maintain, a healthy and sustainable on-call rotation.
Who You Are
We'd love to hear from you if:
- You have Java + Springboot development experience (game industry experience is a plus);
- You have a good grasp on software design and architecture, and enjoy writing code that is both maintainable and performant;
- You have an understanding of web-related technologies (e.g. HTTP, REST, Message Queuing);
- You have experience with version control systems such as Git and Perforce;
- You have some experience with cloud native approach, including CI/CD deployments.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills;
- You have a helpful, solution-minded approach;
- Have an interest in online gaming.

Revenue Operations
You will be part of the Revenue Operations - Technology team. Our vision is to connect ways of working, technology, and insights to empower the business and our users to achieve our ambitious goals. The Revenue Operations team is built on two pillars: Optimization (Process), and Technology. This role sits within the Technology pillar, focusing on building and maintaining the critical infrastructure that connects our commercial and operational teams with the Adyen platform.
What you’ll do:
- Design, build, and maintain a diverse technology stack, including our global Salesforce Sales Cloud and Service Cloud platform and the Java-based middleware that connects it to the core Adyen platform.
- Work on complex technical projects from requirements analysis through to design, implementation, testing, and launch, owning the full development lifecycle.
- Develop and enhance our Salesforce environment by creating customized solutions using Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and Flow.
- Build and maintain robust, scalable, and secure integrations between Salesforce and other enterprise systems using REST/SOAP APIs, gRPC, Avro and our internal Java frameworks.
- Identify and improve parts of the platform to make it more robust and scalable, including refactoring existing code and optimizing performance.
- Collaborate across teams and time zones with specialists, administrators, architects, and other engineers to design and deliver best-in-class solutions.
Who you are:
- You are an engineer with a strong background in both Salesforce development and Java development, comfortable working across both ecosystems.
- You have deep experience with the Salesforce platform, including Apex, Aura/LWC, SOQL, Flow, Javascript and declarative automation tools.
- You have strong experience in Java development, ideally including experience with frameworks like Spring Boot and building REST APIs.
- You are familiar with complex, large-scale distributed systems and have a good understanding of enterprise integration patterns and best practices.
- You have experience with event-driven architecture and technologies like gRPC and Avro.
- You enjoy working in a cross-functional team and value involving others to hear different perspectives.
- You have an experimental mindset with a launch-fast-and-iterate mentality and a keen desire for personal and professional growth.
- You actively integrate AI tools into your engineering workflows and can critically evaluate their outputs for quality and reliability understanding where AI accelerates delivery and where human judgment remains essential.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Kubernetes), and test automation is a strong plus.
Minimum qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in the software development industry in a fast-paced tech environment, with significant hands-on experience in both Salesforce (Sales Cloud and Service Cloud) and Java;
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related quantitative degree field;
- Certified Salesforce Admin & Developer;

Backend Customer Success Engineer (Kotlin Ecosystem) -m/w/d

We’re now looking for a Customer Success Engineer (CSE) to help engineering teams successfully adopt Kotlin on the backend in real-world production environments.
Currently, this role is focused on adoption – helping Java teams introduce Kotlin into existing applications. You’ll work directly with organizations to guide migration, integration, troubleshooting, and scaling, ensuring they move from initial experiments to successful production use.
In addition, you’ll proactively communicate with prospective users to help them understand the Kotlin adoption process, as well as design and implement the migration path.
Responsibilities
- Track and maintain visibility into organizations and their stage of Kotlin adoption (e.g., not started, evaluating, experimenting, production)
- Proactively engage with organizations across different phases of their Kotlin adoption journey
- Develop and recommend high-level adoption strategies tailored to each organization’s context
- Identify and document blockers that hinder progress and propose ways to address them
- Establish and manage feedback loops with development teams to ensure continuous alignment and improvement
We will be happy to have you on our team if you have:
Technical expertise
- Extensive hands-on experience with Kotlin, Java, and the JVM ecosystem
- Proven experience migrating Java backend codebases to Kotlin
- Experience with the Spring (Boot) ecosystem or similar frameworks (e.g., Quarkus, Micronaut, Ktor)
- Solid understanding of build tools and project structuring, including Maven and Gradle
Communication and customer engagement
- Experience in customer-facing technical roles such as Solutions Engineering, Developer Advocacy, or Technical Consulting
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
- Ability to lead workshops, demos, talks, meetups, and other public-facing activities
- Comfort with outbound engagement, including identifying target companies, articulating value propositions, and building relationships with engineering teams
- Ability to effectively communicate with engineers, tech leads, and business stakeholders
System design and architecture
- Ability to design and guide Kotlin adoption strategies for backend applications

- Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain internal Java/Spring Boot services, supporting HR/training/recruiting/finance workflows.
- Test, build, deploy and maintain frontend applications using React / Next.js in TypeScript
- Build and operate services in AWS, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response participation (as applicable).
- Implement infrastructure as code using AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit), including secure-by-default patterns.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (People/HR/Training/Recruitment/Finance) to gather requirements, clarify priorities, and iterate on solutions.
- Drive quality through unit tests, integration tests and performance testing
- Contribute to engineering practices: CI/CD improvements, observability, documentation, and shared platform patterns.
Skills and experience (required)
- 3+ years software engineering experience delivering production systems end-to-end (requirements => production ownership).
- Strong Java skills (typically Java 11+; align with team standards).
- Strong Spring Boot experience building APIs and services.
- Solid grasp of modern front-end frameworks – ideally React.js
- Hands-on AWS experience running services in cloud environments.
- Solid testing practices: unit, integration, and performance testing.
- Docker and Kubernetes knowledge (build, run, troubleshoot containerized workloads).
- Comfortable working in Linux environments.
- Strong troubleshooting and pragmatic problem-solving.
Nice to have
- Python experience, specifically in data pipelining and tooling.
- Infrastructure as Code experience, specifically AWS CDK (or equivalent IaC with readiness to adopt CDK) is a plus.
- Experience with internal platforms and enterprise workflow automation.
- Experience with AI automation.
