Professional Summary
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Quality Inspector to help maintain quality standards throughout the fabrication process. This hands-on role focuses on inspecting fabricated steel components, welds, coatings, and materials to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, and industry requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in structural steel fabrication, understands welding codes, and is committed to producing high-quality work in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Perform quality inspections on fabricated structural steel components throughout production.
Verify compliance with project specifications and applicable industry standards, including AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC requirements.
Inspect incoming materials, parts, and consumables for quality and specification compliance.
Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records and reports.
Identify, tag, and track inspected materials according to established quality procedures.
Calibrate and maintain welding equipment and quality inspection tools.
Support welder qualification testing and certification activities.
Assist with training related to welding, fitting, inspection procedures, and quality standards.
Maintain drawing control and support quality documentation processes.
Work closely with production and leadership teams to resolve quality issues and improve manufacturing processes.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives while promoting a safe work environment.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
Previous experience in quality control, quality assurance, inspection, or a similar manufacturing role.
Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
Experience using quality inspection equipment, including:
- Fillet weld gauges
- V-WAC gauges
- Squares
- Tape measures
- Standard welding and fabrication inspection tools
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, accuracy, and workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
Experience performing or supporting nondestructive testing (NDT), including:
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Penetrant Testing (PT)
- Additional certifications related to structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, bolting, or protective coatings.
- Previous experience in a structural steel manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Work Environment
Primarily a shop-floor position with limited office work.
Active manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures.
Frequent standing, walking, and inspecting materials throughout the workday.
