About This Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated Veterinary Nurse Intern to commence their veterinary nursing career at UQ. Working within a collaborative and inclusive clinical environment, you will receive structured training and supervision while supporting veterinary staff and Clinical Academics involved in the clinical education of veterinary and veterinary technology students. This purposeful development opportunity will help you build practical capability, professional confidence and strong foundations for a rewarding veterinary nursing career.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Develop practical veterinary nursing skills under supervision while maintaining high standards of patient care and professional practice.
• Assess, monitor and assist with the treatment of patients under veterinary or nursing supervision, working closely with veterinarians, veterinary specialists and nursing colleagues.
• Assist with diagnostic procedures, clinical pathology techniques and the care, cleaning and maintenance of specialised clinical equipment.
• Provide professional customer service and administrative support to clinic clients, students, staff and other stakeholders, including assisting with reception and inventory activities when required.

UQ staff also supervise clinical placements at the RSPCA’s Brisbane Animal Care Campus at Wacol.

About You

• A Bachelor of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology, a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and training.
• A strong interest in commencing and developing a professional career in veterinary nursing within a clinical teaching environment.
• The ability to communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues, clients, students, veterinarians and veterinary specialists.
• The capacity to learn and consistently apply clinic-specific protocols, patient care standards and safe work practices.
• A willingness to work flexibly, use initiative and contribute positively within a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
• The ability to handle, clean and maintain clinical equipment carefully and develop competence in diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• A current radiation licence, or the willingness and ability to apply for one.
• A commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in relevant professional or community service activities.
