Position Summary:

The position is responsible for providing leadership in the distribution control center to operator personnel in areas that could include a combination of any of the following: Outage Management, Routine Work, DSCADA Operations, or Switching Orders. This position plays a key role related to storm management and outage restoration providing coordination, decision making and leadership while maintaining the safety of field operating personnel,contract line personnel and the general public.  Depending on location, this position may or may not be defined to work a shift schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and provide leadership to operational staff of a control center to deliver exceptional operational results for Delivery Operations and Duke Customers.  Ensure that all operators are performing at a level that provides for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the distribution system. Ensure that operational staff protect the Duke distribution system by monitoring the utilization of assets within allowed operating parameters. Ensure that operational staff flawlessly execute the remote operation of distributiuon line devices and feeder circuit breakers via System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to ensure the distribution grid is controlled and operated safely and reliably.
• Maintain knowledge on the work process and practices within the distribution control center and the processes of interdependent departments in Delivery Operations, Transmission Operations, Customer Services, Community Relations, and other partners.  Provide subject matter expertise to operations partners by participating in leadership, process, and technology meetings or projects. Subject matter expertise must include knowledge of switching and tagging practices, field resource callout procedures, planned work practices, operational coordination with Transmission and Substation Operations, and utilization of various operations information technology tools.
• Provide leadership and direction to operators in order to deliver exceptional results 24/7/365 in the areas of outage restoration, routine work execution, planned switching, isolation and tagging, operation of self-healing devices, maintenance of load reduction systems, and other system functions as designated by DCC leadership. Monitor operators’ adherence to control center practices and processes that support key Delivery Operations objectives (safety, reliability, cost management, customer satisfaction, and employee satisfaction).

• Track and monitor distribution system conditions, weather conditions, and outages to ensure adequate control center resources.  Plan and coordinate with various departments to ensure a state of readiness relative to storm planning and deployment, preparing for system emergencies ensuring consistency in standard operating procedures across department/organizational lines, etc.

Required/Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors degree
• In addition to required degree, five (5) or more years related work experience
• In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND five (5) or more years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND six (6) or more years related work experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of electric or gas distribution and/or electric transmission construction standards, operations processes, and work practices
• Ability to quickly resolve distribution system issues

• Grid solutions
• Plant Operations (fossil hydro, nuclear)

Working Conditions

•  Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility. On-site employees are also required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location, not greater than 50 miles one way.
• Ability to work in a 24 X 7 rotating shift schedule
