Introduction to the Job

As a Cymer Technical Support Engineer, you will help optimize advanced laser systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. Your work will directly support the technologies that enable smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient microchips.

Based in San Diego, California, you will join Cymer, ASML’s light source division. Cymer develops deep ultraviolet and next-generation extreme ultraviolet light sources for leading chipmakers worldwide. You will collaborate with customers, field service teams, account teams, and engineering partners to resolve complex technical issues.

Role and Responsibilities

The Cymer Technical Support Engineer provides advanced engineering support for Cymer laser products and customer escalations. You will monitor system performance, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions that improve equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.

• Analyze laser performance data and discuss technical findings with field service engineers.

• Troubleshoot complex laser, optical, electronic, software, and mechanical system issues.

• Provide technical guidance during customer escalations and equipment performance investigations.

• Partner with customers and engineering teams to define problems and implement effective solutions.

• Evaluate performance trends, identify bottlenecks, and recommend process or system improvements.

• Document technical findings through clear written reports, graphical analysis, and presentations.

• Support occasional after-hours, weekend, or travel requirements based on customer needs.

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field.

• 8 or more years of relevant excimer laser, semiconductor equipment, technical support, or field service experience.

• A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering is preferred.

• Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting excimer lasers or comparable electronic systems.

• Knowledge of deep ultraviolet photolithography, optical imaging, metrology, or beam delivery systems.

• Experience analyzing technical data using Microsoft Excel, LabVIEW, Spotfire, or similar applications.

• Experience with control charts, process capability analysis, or measurement system studies.

• Experience using Java or Visual Basic is helpful but not required.

• Mandarin Chinese language proficiency is helpful but not required.

• Support: Scheduled Oncall for weekends and afterhours to support escalations on a rota

• Occasional out of hours on-site support for escalations.

• 25% travel (International and Domestic, eg.1 per year Taiwan)

Other Information

You must be willing to work in a cleanroom while wearing required protective clothing and safety equipment. The role may require standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, and working around moderate-to-high noise levels. You may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Occasional after-hours, weekend, and business travel support may be required.

Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
